Both have first eps subbed by viikii already so I had decided to check them out.
What is the verdict? I liked Prosecutor Princess but I completely LOVED Cinderella Unni. Yes, I am shocked too.
Prosecutor Princess - I really enjoyed the first episode. It's nothing ground-breaking but it's snappy, light-hearted and moves fast. The best part of the drama so far is Kim So Yeon, playing a smart but shallow prosecutor so energetically and with such fun that I couldn't help but love her. The role is 180 degrees from her role in IRIS but she nails it. She takes a character who easily could have been dislikeable or cliche or boring and makes her awesome. Park Shi Hoo is mysterious and very very sexy and I already love the vibe between them. This will be one HOT couple when they do hook up - the chemistry is thick in the air already. I liked what little we've seen of Han Jung Soo, as well. The cast truly is the reason to watch this.
Cinderella Unni - well, you could have knocked me over with a feather. I really really liked it. It's not at all as mopey and emo and OTT as the ridiculous previews make it look - it actually has a light deft touch and finds a surprising amount of humor even in some grim situations. Neither is Moon Geun Young's protagonist a sullen ball of misery - she is tough and hardened by life and not particularly cheery but she's actually an active, engaging character. In their one brief scene together, the chemistry between her and Chun Jung Myung absolutely crackles. So far the most interesting characters are her and her mother - a woman who is so desperate to have a man, any man, to live with, that she puts up with a string of alcoholics, abusers, users, and other losers, not seeing how it warps her daughter in the process. It also has one of the best, most enaging drama openings I've seen in a while - as MGY and the son of her mother's boyfriend prepare their dinner, the older couple is fighting in the background. They are yelling, even physically fighting, but the teens ignore it and methodically shovel food into their mouths - clearly such an occurrence is an every day event. It is only when the boyfriend grabs an aluminum bat that they go in to interfere. None of it is particularly overworught and some of it is even grimly funny. That brief, 2-minute sequence sums up everything about these characters better than a lengthy introduction ever could.
Man, they really should have fired their promotions team.

Oh, and all three Wed-Thurs dramas are charming. I think I'm going to leave Personal Taste and Prosecutor Princess to marathon, because, really, 3 dramas is all I can handle. (Finals in 2 weeks! Guess who's screwed??)
Okay, this photobucket thing is really frustrating the hell out of me. If I still can't get it to work in 2 hours, could you upload DY ep2's screencaps for me? There's less than 100, it's not much. Grr.

Everyone is talking about Cinderella Unni and I can't believe I won't be able to watch it until Sunday. *sobs more* It sounds so so amazing and yes, I am kind of shocked that you liked it!

Oooh, they have chemistry already? Well, PSH could have chemistry with a rock, so I'm not surprised. Another one that I'm really excited about. I hope viikii continues subbing them. I honestly thought that CU wouldn't get subbed. YAY!
Have you checked out Personal Taste yet?

Date: 2010-04-03 05:09 am (UTC)I honestly don't know what to make of this. I just saw the first episode of CU and I also really, really like what I see. It's not the dreary melodramatic mess that I was led to believe it would be. Promo people, wtf?
At the same time, I'm almost waiting for the other shoe to drop, for this drama to do a complete 180 and become the drama that was advertised (disappointing me in the process). I really hope it's just a case of a misleading advertisement because I absolutely love the overall vibe of the drama so far.
