Cinderella Unni releases a long preview

Thoughts after seeing this preview are mixed.

PROS

* I like the muted colors of this drama. It's an odd choice for a spring drama, but overly crisp or bright colors would not have suited this at all. (I am not saying no melodrama could employ them successfully - Snow Queen was breathtakingly vivid and crisp, but for this particular one it would seem off).

* Chun Jung Myung is back! And I love his intensity.

* That one brief scene with Moon Geun Young and CJM indicated they would have good chemistry. Oh, that gorgeous back-hug!

* Seo Woo is so different from Tamra - I know I am going to love her high-strung, high-maintenance character.

* Taec's acting didn't drive me up the wall - now, this is a short, carefully cut preview, but at least there is hope that he may be OK even though he's a newbie.

* Eyecandy!

CONS

* I am not so sure I am going to like Cinderella's Unni herself. At least in the preview she appears a sullen bag of misery. That is very much not a character type I like. A hard-working cheerful heroine or a steady capable one or a reserved ladylike one or a wounded tough girl or a silly dork? I love all of those. None of them involve sullenness. Unless we find out that she's been beaten every day since she was 5, nothing excuses that - most kdrama heroines have tough pasts but none of them mope their life away. Stop with your emo whiny teenage self. It may be realistic, but oh boy, is it irritating to watch. Makes me wonder why either of the guys will fall for her.

* SO O-V-E-R-T-H-E-T-O-P! Yes, it's a melodrama, I appreciate that. But there are two kinds of melodramas - one is an understated, surprisingly quiet way to grab you and leave you in this emotional hothouse where even whispers reverberate through you and you cry like a little girl. There is intensity but not too much noise. Not all at once. All my favorite melodramas (A Love to Kill, Tree of Heaven, Snow Queen, Winter Sonata, Will It Snow on Christmas, Robbers) have that in common. The other way is to go for full-blown makjang screaming from the start which just makes me exhausted. I am worried CU is shaping up to be the latter.

Ultimate Veridict: Wait-and-see. Can pleasantly surprise me but I don't have high expectations going in. I think ultimately my biggest problem is that I am not a fan of Moon Geun Young. I don't dislike her - she isn't one of those actors where their attachment to a project would mean my desire to skip it, but I am indifferent to her so seeing her in the leading role does nothing for me.

I saw that MV and will freely admit to being very excited. There are some new character profiles out. Seems like Cinderella's Unni is so sullen because her mother has gone from man to man in order to get rich, and all the men were abusive. So, Cinderella's Unni has been abused a lot, while trying to care for her money-hungry mom. :/ Okay. Could be wrong. But, I'm interested to see a heroine that has anger in her.

Seo Woo's character looks very high maintenance and spoiled. It will be interesting to see her go from spoiled princess to revenge seeking woman.


Also, lots of chemistry in this cast. I'm watching the first four episodes and I'll see.

The preview actually worked for me. I've been feeling very 'whatever' about this drama and it's actually turned me off but I'm mildly interested again. I don't know if I'll be able to sit through it, it looks *so* exhausting, but I'll give the first few episodes a try.

Maybe it's the characters? I'm not really compelled by any of them tbh. And if the heroine annoys, I'm out, and this one looks like she could be annoying. And something about it doesn't look like a Kdrama to me. There's something very drabby about it. A little too EastEnders or something.

Well, Daemul is back on (to start filming in May) and it's based on a super-popular manga about a high-class gigolo hired to seduce and wreck the career of first female president of Korea. Who is played by Go Hyun Jung herself.

I am so excited for it, it's sick.

Btw, Bad Love might have sucked but it did have this:



This is, hands down, the sexiest thing I have ever seen in a kdrama. I am shocked the censors let them get away with it.

Seo Woo looks like a doll, so beautiful, but I have a feeling I'm gonna hate her character. I feel like this drama is gonna have a few good episodes, but it'll wear me down by episode five.

I like angry, apathetic heroines, as opposed to the headstrong, optimistic ones we see in every drama (not that there's anything wrong with them), so I think I'm gonna like Moon Geun Young's character. It's just Seo Woo, as beautiful as she is, her character might piss me off -- how can Cinderella have the balls to slap her sister?

I'm very iffy on this drama and of course the preview didn't help but regardless I'm still planning on checking it out. I want to like all the new Thursday dramas so I can gorge myself sick.

Gotta say, that trailer just killed any enthusiasm I had for the drama. I mean, I love MGY (LOOOOOOOVE) but GEEZ, comb your hair. And the slow-mo running. Gah! What is this?

She does look like she has a lot of chemistry with CJM.
