Dear Author -
1. When I buy a romance novel about a woman puchasing a gigolo at a bachelor auction by mistake, thinking she was getting a paramedic, I want a lot of things from the book. Wholesomeness isn't one of them. I thought that would be obvious. (Yes, you can have steamy scenes and still be wholesome - this could be on Amish Channels in all other respects).
2. The one time you are NOT wholesome? It doesn't work. Lots of things are sexy - toned bodies, fancy lingerie, watching a kdrama lead without his shirt. You know what is NOT sexy? Having your protagonists have hot steamy sex encounter in the play area of the day care center. Actually, that is rather sick. Make it very very sick. I wish I could claim that I think it so only because I am a mother and maybe you, Dear Author, are not, so did not realize the true ickiness. But sadly - even before I ever thought of having offspring, I would have found a make-out in such a place wildly inappropriate and disturbingly gross. See a therapist, Dear Author. Please.
3. Gigolo hero analogizing his job to heroine's - 'she takes care of strange children, I take care of strange ladies' is one thing. The book intending us to see it the same way is another.
4. Don't be wishy-washy. The dude's a gigolo. The whole 'he only did it with women he was attracted to and now he doesn't need to anyway because he's a rich businessman' (whaaaa?) is a total cop-out.
5. A few fun sexytimes do not equal true love or basis for a functioning relationship with a walking STD-carrier. Address.
6. Fine, you made your hero Irish. Irish and American accents are different. But as you are not phonetically writing out the way Annie sounds or even the rest of the time hero talks, every time you write hero saying 'Jaysus', I want to kill something.
7. Heroine's reaction on finding out her potential bf is a gigolo? 'Oh, that's OK, I know you love me anyway.' Hello! I'd have exhibited more outrage over the guy lying about his choice of hair color. A kdrama would have milked this for 5 eps straight.
All in all, blah blah blah. Bad book.

Date: 2010-03-30 08:58 pm (UTC)Lol the one with the first female president and her opponents (?) hire a gigolo to bring her down? YES! It sounds so completely ridiculous but I have a feeling I will enjoy it IMMENSELY. It's been confirmed right?

Date: 2010-03-30 09:23 pm (UTC)Re: KSW. I am a fangirl for him and even I couldn't last more than an ep of Cinderella Man. *shudder*
Have my fave pics of him - baby + abs, hee. (it's his kid, he didn't kidnap a random child off the streets.)
Bonus:
(This is from Once Upon a Time in High School. I really like that movie though I find it rather sad).

Date: 2010-03-30 09:58 pm (UTC)Sadly, it's all downhill for Bad Love from there. Elevator Girl kills herself (why why why? Why would you kill yourself when you have KSW to do these sexy things to you?) and he eventually falls for heroine who is, IMO, even more insane than Elevator Girl, and has ISSUES because her previous boyfriend was KSW's brother-in-law who lied to her about not being married, and b-i-l's insane wife (KSW is an illegitimate child) caused her to have a miscarriage and also she can't be a cello player now but instead sells fried chicken. She also wails at poor KSW that they can 'never beeeeeeeeeeeee' without any reasoning at all. God, I wanted to drown her.
Don't ask about the rest of the drama - he tries to revenge himself on her but of course he still lurves her etc etc then b-i-l has a terminal illness and and and.
The writer must have been on drugs.
At one point Elevator Girl's look-a-like shows up. Good times, good times.

Date: 2010-03-30 10:11 pm (UTC)I got sidetracked never finished - might restart and do proper recaps of the insanity.
Re: cello. No, her parents died and she also got into an accident (I believe) which made her incapable of playing. Basically, unknowing adultery = GOD WILL PUNISH YOU AND SMITE YOU WITH FIRE.
I bet both Kwon Sang Woo and Lee Yo Won want to pretend this drama never happened.
But I kinda like the pairing for a really geeky fangirly reason. I totally shipped them in this MV (it's really famous and made years before these guys became big stars) and he finally got her!

Rofl oh gawd
Aw they are all so young in that MV. It's nice that they were reunited in the drama just wish it was a better drama.

I love that MV because it's basically a 5 min summation of a classic kdrama - someone doesn't want to watch 16 hours, show them that. They all die :)

Date: 2010-03-30 11:29 pm (UTC)I enjoy romance novel sex scenes (tbh, main reason I read them - plots of them don't really do it for me) but that was downright sick.

Date: 2010-03-31 03:22 am (UTC)(Doesn't help that I'm in Beijing right now and just saw an article about a Chinese student couple being caught having sex in public in broad daylight in what looks like a corner of a student hostel building. On the floor of said corner. My first thought was, THEY SPIT EVERYWHERE HERE. I'm not one for perpetuating cultural stereotypes but SERIOUSLY THEY SPIT EVERYWHERE HERE. So in other words, I have two problems with said floor of day care play area. =.=)
And lol you have a ton of patience with bad romance novels! I tried reading one my mum borrowed from the library and would have thrown it across the room if not for the fact that it was a library book and you don't destroy library books. xp
