Weirdest Awards Outfit Ever

It's official. I like So Ji Sub.

Why?

Because he's a total freakshow.

This is what he showed up dressed in to the Baeksang Awards:



Yup. A Korean army uniform. No, he hasn't enlisted back into the army.

He is, however, currently filming a Korean war drama.

I have NO idea why he showed up in uniform though - too busy filming and didn't have time to change? Too cheap/lazy and wanted to save money/time on getting a tux? A bizarre form of promotion? A desire to stand out from the crowd? The voices in his head told him?

You don't see anyone else doing it - Han Hyo Joo didn't show up in a traditional queenly outfit with heavy gold jewelry. Nobody from Chuno attended in rags. Kim Nam Gil didn't come in dented battle armor. Lee Byung Hun didn't show up shirtless with fake blood smeared all over his chest. Yes please.

So why, SJS, why?

I suppose we should just be glad he wasn't filming a drama involving hosts or cross-dressers.

He looks good though.

Some kind of patriotic "honoring armymen" thing maybe? Korea is a fiercely patriotic nation as far as I know.

They seem to have been saying it's in costume for his drama but that is so bizarre to me - none of the others came in costume!

Oh Em Gee. SJS in drag? Heeee. A Korean version of "Some Like It Hot" starring SJS... I MUST HAVE IT NOW.

Heee. Some kdrama guys can pull of drag (Lee Junki comes to mind) but SJS is definitely not one of them - he'd be a hell of a tall, muscular, really manly girl.

He would be the greatest thing since Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze in To Wong Foo. They fit quite perfectly in the 'You are one ugly woman, dude' category. I think SJS is one step above though with his cheek bones and heavy lidded eyes. :P

That reminds me - to me his eyes look different from those of other kdrama actors. I know this whole thing about single eyelid v. double eyelid (though not exactly sure what the difference looks like) - does he have single eyelids by any chance or is it just the shape?

I'm not up on this stuff tbh but yeah, I think he has single lidded eyes. I think what makes them different might be the gap between his eyebrows and eyes (compared to other actors there seems to be more space) and combine that with his heavy lids, his eyes look bigger than they actually are. They kind of pop out if that makes any sense.

Also, question - it's fine if he wants to shove SH away for revenge/unworthiness purposes. Shouldn't he be concerned at Rich Boy's designs on her? He isn't exactly Mr. Sanity, seeing he killed a guy accidentally before.

OMG. I would approve it if that meant Johnny Depp went around dressing as a pirate all the time.

OK, now I am wondering if this guy sleeps in a sleeping bag in a tent in his living room - because I am sure a Korean war soldier didn't have a nice bedroom with a normal bed :P And he better eat out of tins! Talk about method.

I saw this on dramabeans. Some do think he was promoting his new drama, but that drama may not be eligible for the '11 awards (it may have to wait for the '12 awards) depending on when it airs and for how long. It's just freaky, because the Baeksang Awards are Korea's version of the People's Choice/Golden Globe/Emmy awards. Why come dress in character?

I am pretty sure RN1 will be eligible for 2011 Baeksangs - it starts in the summer and they go by when the drama starts - everything that starts from around feb 2010 - feb 2011 will be eligible I believe.

I confess RN1 sounds so ridiculously good it's insane - I read the really detailed and spoilery synopsis and it's basically everything I want in a drama - war time bonding, North Korean spies, lower class guy/upper class woman, the fact that he enlists to pay for her medical school fees, passinate lovemaking in an abandoned building and everything else.

If it wasn't for Athena, RN1 would be my most anticipated of the year.

Plus, it's the PD for Dog/Wolf and the writer for Brotherhood of War. OMG.
