I've picked only the heroines. Any winners will get a post about them :)

Clearly period kdramas is where strong women are at.

Period for the purposes of this poll is defined as anything before WW2.

[Poll #1540236]

KIHA! I loved her in Legend, and was seriously expecting them to rewrite the Sujini/Damdeok OTP for her, but they didn't. T.T

Where did you find Conspiracy in the Court?

Thanks! I don't have premium, though, so I found another source.

Evil poll! I made myself pick only three of each, and now I'm wringing my hands in guilt over those I passed up.

I tend to be a bit hard on Jang Geum, particularly earlier in the series, because she tends to be so perfect, but she actually is pretty awesome, especially later in the series. I also forgive the borderline Mary Sue-ish approach it has at times because it was, as I understand things, the first major sageuk to not only have a female lead, but also make most of the major players female, and the success had a major impact on women in historical dramas and their prominence and storylines. (Too bad Hollywood doesn't see things massively popular with women and go "Hmm...women liked this, and it did way better than everything else!" instead of "it can't POSSIBLY be than women like major things with female leads...clearly, a butterfly flapped its wings in Tibet and it altered the Earth's gavity enough to cause A TOTAL FLUKE.")

Sadly, I suspect you and I may be the only ones to vote for Jung Hwa. A lot of fans don't seem to like her. Mostly, apparently, because she never realizes her true and epic love for Yum Moon and keeps rejecting him. I think they missed a part where she doesn't reject him because she loves someone else, but because she doesn't and never did love him. (Seriously, I checked out wikipedia's page for the series once and there was this huge thing about how the fans all thought she should have loved him since things were always messed up with her and Jang Bogo. Missing the point, I think.)

Ugh, I know.

I totally love that about dramas though - DJG led to a whole bunch of women-centric sageuks and the trend still continues. This year alone has at least 2 (Dong Yi and Merchant Kim Man Deok)

Excellent taste. Besides, if you didn't pick them, Kiha could set you on fire with her mind :P

Is Damo worth watching? I noticed the girl who plays the main character in Bali is in your poll...

Yes. It's only 14 eps long and very good. Sort of like a period police drama with tough heroine as the lead.

Hey, I have a quick question on Bali back on my LJ. I may have missed something important, lol.

I jumped and almost shouted for joy when I saw that first on the list were two of my faves EVER!!!

I didn't vote for Seon Dok, surprisingly because she somehow sucked in the end for me. When Mishil died, I think she lost that *awesomeness* that only Mishil can bring out in her.

Which brings me to the question," WHY OH WHY ISN'T MISHIL included in this list? "

Because seriously, she fits both categories. SHE IS JUST SO FRIGGIN AWESOME!

Yay for Jang Geum! And isn't it a coincidence that I just watched this again last night!

KiHa? I voted for her but I thought that you would have included her in the first category. I think she along with Mishil fits both categories.

I didn't vote for Yi Nok because honestly, I don't think she even deserves to be in the company of such fierce women. Gah! Her naivete that bordered on stupidity still annoys the hell out of me.

Lady Soya...oh well, yeah - she was able to bring up her son under the prying eyes and threats of Daeso and her mother but I think that more credit should be given to Jumong's mother and not her.

Just saying....

:)

Mishil is eeeeeeevil (but then so is Kiha - I have no excuse :P)

Poor lil Yi Nok, I'll love her :)

Song Yeon! ♥ Really, my Han Ji Min love is coming out. She was so beautiful and positively ethereal as Song Yeon in Yi San that it was an instant girl crush. And so intelligent and resourceful without needing a weapon! I love how she's the one who pretty much saves the Prince's butt 80% of the time - with her brain.

And definitely Cha Song Joo, that super tough gun-toting lady. She was so awesome that the ending of Capital Scandal made me bawl like a baby :/ And yet I couldn't think of a cooler way for her to go.

Oh yes, they are both really nifty.

GOSH Sujini is obviously the HBIC but Song Joo is pretty awesome herself. I think Sujini kicked more physical ass but Song Joo had the personality that I liked. Plus her last scene in Capital Scandal. . . gaaah.

Yeah, that's why I made it check boxes - they are too awesome to limit to one.
