OMG! The Hong Sisters have just confirmed their next drama and the rumors were true: their next is a tongue-in-cheek take on the Nine-Tailed Fox legend (a sort of Korean equivalent to a vampire - these foxes are supernatural beings that pass for humans and eat human livers) to be called My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox.
There is not enough SQUEE. Here is why:
1. They cast Lee Seung Gi as the male lead! His looks don't do much for me but he is a very rare idol who can actually act - I fell madly for him as Hwan in Brilliant Legacy. An opportunity to see him in a drama again is so very awesome.
2. I love fantasy-type stuff and kdramas aren't big on that. Actually the one I can think of is Nine-Tailed Fox with Kim Tae Hee and Jo Hyun Jae - an angsty fighter melodrama type thing which I adored. Even if they needed a wheelbarrow at the end for all the bodies. But I am sure this will be pretty different.
3. I adore Hong Sisters to bits. Hong Gil Dong is in my Top 5 dramas of all time and the rest of their dramas range to me from utter adoration (My Girl, Chunhyang) to entertaining (Fantasy Couple, You're Beautiful). The best part is this has so much potential - especially since the Hong Sisters said this will be the most melo of their stuff. I find when they go serious (Hong Gil Dong), they do their best stuff and since it's going to be a fantasy and melodramatic potentially, it will avoid the two problems that sometimes bug me with them - when the drama doesn't have much conflict or angst I check out (Fantasy Couple and even more so YAB lost me in the second half because it had so little conflict and plot. And when a drama loses you emotionally you start to nitpick and nothing good happens). This sounds like there will be angst and lots of plot. When you combine it with the Hong Sisters' sharp wit, bring it on!
4. They have not cast a female lead yet. She is supposed to be beautiful and in early 20s. Please pick Lee Yeon Hee. But anyone but Gu Hye Sun or Yoona will do. Yay!

Date: 2010-03-15 03:56 am (UTC)I'm happy to see Lee Seug Ki again. I'm looking forward to the casting news of the female lead. I doubt it will be Lee Yeen Hee though. She's scheduled to be one of the secondary leads in Paradise Ranch You know, that drama with all that unattractive boybander Max ChangMin, Joo Sang Wook (Queen Seon Duk and That Fool), and Yoo Ha Na (My Lucky Star and Sons of Sol Pharmacy). It airs in late March/ early April. I doubt she could do both.
Dramawiki has Sandara Park listed as a cast member. Possibly female lead? Though, that may be purely based on rumors. She's 25 and may be too old if they want someone whose 20-23ish. I looked her up - she had a small role in The Return of Iljimae and done some film work. But, she seems to mostly be a singer/dancer/model. Mmm...we shall see.

Date: 2010-03-15 04:02 am (UTC)However, I've heard nothing about this drama and it is supposed to air this month or next. I wonder if it is still delayed. If so, I kind of hope both Lee Yeen Hee and Yoo Ha Na get out of it and find other projects - they are too talented to be love interests for some singer that may or may not be able to act.
*sigh* Watch, I eat my words in a few weeks.

Date: 2010-03-16 12:07 am (UTC)I think it's odd because Lee Yeen Hee should be in leading lady status now. She's come off being the fifth major player in EoE and her storyline was popular. She should be the leading lady. Yoo Ha Na has been in two Sat/Sun dramas that were hugely popular and was supporting in one and a major player in the other. . .both these talented ladies should not be slumming in a boybander vehicle.

Date: 2010-03-15 11:16 am (UTC)BUT mainly! Lee Seung Gi is one of rare Korean actors who does nothing for me, nothing. He is not even remotely attractive to my eyes, he looks 11 (my daughters age so here I must draw the line :D) and I am not impressed by his acting too much (but he is not too bad at acting, just not good).

Date: 2010-03-15 03:15 pm (UTC)I don't find LSG attractive either but I liked him as a character of Hwan in BL - there is a large number of actors that fit that. Anyone under 25, really - Jang Geun Seok, Jung Il Woo, even Lee Min Ho - I like them in dramas but they are all too young for me to drool over. He falls in the same bucket.

Date: 2010-03-15 12:53 pm (UTC)The plot intrigues only because it's something that's not normally done in k-dramas. All depends on the female lead now.

Date: 2010-03-15 01:20 pm (UTC)1. Lee Seung-gi! I loved him in Shining Inheritance, which is not to say I loved SI, but that he was so adorable he made me love it. :DDD
2. I go into all sageuks with my own wheelbarrow. *shame*
3. I did not expect to need a wheelbarrow in HGD. T.T
4. Omg, someone else who doesn't think the sun shines out of Gu Hye-sun's ... feet!
Okay, off to get morning coffee now.

Date: 2010-03-15 03:11 pm (UTC)Re: GHS. Ugh. She is hard-working so I don't begrudge her the success she has but she is a bad actress - horrible in BOF, barely tolerable in King and I and that fake sageuk with Eric. I've given her enough chances, now is time to write her off as an actress for me.
So I hope she succeeds in her other endeavors and stays off my screen.

Date: 2010-03-15 10:07 pm (UTC)'So, according to all the rumors floating around, SeungGi's character on the new drama is named Cha DaeUng (차대웅). He is the grandson of a hospital president. Someone at the hospital is interested in the anatomy of nine-tailed fox, so SeungGi has to try to protect his leading lady and his own liver at the same time. Trying to prevent the nine-tailed fox from taking his liver, he buys her Korean beef because she doesn't eat imported beef. laugh.gif He has to work hard to make money so that he could afford the korean beef, and he even leaves home and lives in one of those rooftop rooms.'

Date: 2010-03-16 02:44 am (UTC)But omg, ALL I PRAY IS THAT THEY DON'T CAST AN IDOL AS FEMALE LEAD. Or most of the other girls who've been cast in terrible hit romcoms lately, tbh. Please, god, no. I can't be the only one who's been burned by giving all these idol-turned-singers a chance. If they cast someone like Yoona or Sandara Park, I will find myself a really steep cliff and exit stage ;_;
Goo Hye Sun's a no-no, too. I used to think she was all right back when I saw her in King and I, but then I
tried towatch Pure 19 and wanted to stab her.But I heard a rumour up the grapevine recently that it might be Shin Se Kyung? It's a possibility after she finishes up High Kick. It's too bad Seo Woo's busy with Cinderella Unni, and Kim So Eun's in that daily drama. KSE sounds a bit overhyped after BOF, but she was so awesome in Empress Chunchu that all is forgiven :D

Date: 2010-03-16 03:23 am (UTC)Yoona is horrible - I do not get the fixation Korea has about her. Did you hear about her being offered a role in Athena (hopefully not leading but you never know) though thankfully she turned it down. WHYYYYY?

Date: 2010-03-16 07:30 am (UTC)Pure 19 should've been called Pure Suffering, because I had to watch GHS cry and pull this I LOVE YOU BUT I CANNOT MAKE YOU TURN AGAINST YOUR PARENTS SO I WILL DUMP YOU! thing for 122 episodes. And she did the whole thing in this wonky fake "Chinese immigrant" accent.
The only thing I've seen Yoona in is 9 End 2 Outs, and she was so cardboard that I have no idea why she then got casted as lead in You're My Destiny and Cinderella Man. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to put her with Kwon Sang Woo?!?! And YES I heard about the Athena thing. The minute I read the title of the article "Yoona offered role in Athena", I was so traumatized that I couldn't even click (and therefore didn't realize she had turned it down until afterwards). THANK GOD. I mean, Yoona/Kwon Sang Woo was baffling, but Yoona/Jung Woo Sung & Cha Seung Won? WTFFF?

Best part was Yoona fangirls saying she didn't need to act with these guys - I mean, who knew who they were and all! :P
