Mar. 14th, 2010 12:24 am1. Tried to watch Up. Got pissed off at manipulation and the clear fact that girls don't get to adventure but boys do.
2. Watched Up in the Air instead which was awesome.
3. Watched some of Portrait of a Beauty, Korean film about female painter who crossdresses as a man in order to have a career. Same story drama Painter of the Wind is based on, but much more preferred as there is enough story for 2hr movie, not 16hr drama. Plus, her OTP is age-appropriate. Gotta say, one of the most explicit movies I've seen in a while. In addition to hero/heroine epic sex scene, there is a lengthy totally unnecessary scene of heroine sneaking into brothel to paint two women who reenact some varying and explicit sexual positions for patrons. Not sure why the scene needed to be 10 minutes but whatever. Main reason for watching was Kim Nam Gil as the OTP and he is a little Bidamish in this so time not wasted.
Have a cap I can actually show:

It all ends about as well aa could be expected.
4. Rewatched some earlier parts of Chuno, and yes, my obsession with Song Tae Ha, the slave general, is unhealthy. I have come to terms with it.

Kill Dae Gil the poor guy, I don't even care, just let my woobie Tae Ha live, please!
5. Watched first ep of Yi San. It's good but a little too creepy (first ep had mistreatment of children, filicide by starving someone to death - King to grown-up Crown Prince) blah blah. I think I will postpone - traditional sageuks are always iffy for me.
Still, insanely pretty.

Date: 2010-03-14 05:33 am (UTC)I was just pissed that it seemed it was OK for women to be inspiations but they never got to go. Nah, the guy got to go, she just got to live in same house and die. It would have been OK if she never wanted to go anywhere but...

Date: 2010-03-14 08:12 am (UTC)a) she started off as such a tomboy, but promptly turned into Cutesy McSundress at puberty
b) at the end, you find out she considered her life her Great Adventure. Which is great and all, except that it DOES have that ring of "oh, women will be totally satisfied just looking after their husband and painting their mailboxes and making the house cozy, and that's exciting enough for them." I mean, they never even had kids--there never was anything truly tying them down--they could have take out a loan and gone on that adventure.

Date: 2010-03-14 02:22 pm (UTC)Even the lovemaking scene with the heroine and Kim Nam Gil (who I saw way more off of than I ever thought I would :P) - yeah yeah yeah I get that it's sensual and super-romantic but did we really have to see them try half the positions from the Kama Sutra? We could have gotten the point in 1/3 as much time.

Date: 2010-03-14 10:28 am (UTC)I have been re-watching the earlier episodes of Chuno too. I have embarked on full re-watch, hopefully to be finished just before the ending comes (just in case it is tragic and I will be put off any idea of future re-watches). You know, seeing both TH and DG is the first episodes really highlights how far TH gone in his growing process. And it also highlights how far down DG went in a short period of time (sadly!!). In the first episodes DG is this cool , tortured but quite functional guy (and his haircut is much better :D) who is looking for his lost love but who is also very perceptive (for example, he was the only one to notice that TH's limp is false) but then - BAM! HE meets HER and loses it all. SO SO SAD.
Also - speaking of people having slashy feelings for TH - I am sure the late Prince was amongst them :D

Date: 2010-03-14 02:25 pm (UTC)Yes. DG was so much more together before the whole meeting UN thing.
Also - speaking of people having slashy feelings for TH - I am sure the late Prince was amongst them :D
ROFL. TH's hotness is challenging all married men in his vicinity :)

Date: 2010-03-14 03:14 pm (UTC)Also, all the other officers were assigned as slaves to all sorts of random places but TH got to be a slave at the military command which he used to be the master off before? I bet I know who finagled it so he could have a fun day every day - Chul Woong.
Also it came across that CW was soooooo precious about this post but in one sweep the Evil Snator took it off him. (I cheered here, in a big way).
ROFL. TH's hotness is challenging all married men in his vicinity :)
Hee! I don't blame them , the Prince, for example, didn't even want to go to the Qing without TH and his last words were intended to him too .:D

Date: 2010-03-14 10:40 am (UTC)Ugh, I hate sad endings, but now that I know Kim Nam Gil was in Portrait of a Beauty, I might have to force myself to watch it anyway. Preferably when my mother's out of the house and therefore won't keep crashing into my room without knocking...

Date: 2010-03-14 07:02 pm (UTC)ETA: Oh! And to have attempted to watch Up without a 3-year-old (who, thankfully, also likes movies with female leads, though at his age, it's mostly about visuals and talking dogs/cars/foxes/etc) who kept dozing off and waking up to make sure it was still on and the arm he was using as a pillow wasn't going anywhere.

Date: 2010-03-14 07:46 pm (UTC)It looks like there will be no UN/DG conversations/meaningful interactions until he buys it (if he does).
I am getting the feeling my darling Tae Ha is a goner. The ending I see is DG and UN with TH's baby. I can live with that but this does not make SHIPPER ME happy.
Why is DG tagging along? Is his better self awakening (he is totally fascinated by TH). All well and good but who is going to protect darling UN when evil psycho CW shows up (the moment CW finds out she is TH's wife, he's going to torture her to death and DG and TH are going to get back to a corpsicle).

Date: 2010-03-14 08:02 pm (UTC)maybe he'll leave Darling Onion to General Choi. And HE will fall in love with her too... and we'll have Chuno 2: Un Nyun's Seduction
Seriously? My only worry is... if TH dies, this will be bleaker than I thought it would be. There is NO chance in hell that UN and DG would be husband-wife frolicking happily in a field of daisies while they dote on their kids. I am pretty convinced that Dae Gil is a goner, if you looked at the past episodes... he has pissed off waaaay too many people and it's not a matter of IF... but a matter of WHEN he will be dying in a painful death while UN mourns for him all over again.
So if TH dies... UN must be pregnant then (that's my theory, a bun in the oven will only happen if he's going to die) DG will become her lovelorn protector.
In some Kdrama convenient plot direction... DG and UN on the run ends up in that land DG bought. She will see the house he built and channel some Nicolas Sparks shit... and probably weep. They have momentary happiness... til someone he pissed off before will kill him. UN surviving will happen then.
This is all if TH dies. Gawd, are they going to kill both men?! I am pissed.
