1. Pick the Stars ep 18.
* I am a bad bad person. Baby Nami is very sick and all I am thinking is "OMGOMG He is cradling her OMG!!!" Being a shipper will do that to you. This episode had so much touching. Mmm. Shippy mush aside, I really do think the whole thing with Nami shows up that Pal Kang and her brood need Kang Ha - she is capable of providing/caring for them but who is going to provide/care for her? It's really good to have someone there to help you with your burden, as you help the kids with theirs. Plus, Kang Ha is just good in a crisis.
* I felt so awful for PK the whole ep - her baby brother is sick and there is nothing she can do.
* This whole ep was worth it for the look on Kang Ha's face when he learned all of PK's siblings are adopted. That goes so directly towards his issues it's insane.
* Hagface continues insane. In what Universe would she expect a man who is (a) in love with another woman; (b) is only marrying her because she is threatening his brother otherwise; (c) loathes the sight of her - be happy about marriage to her or evince anything but disgust? I do love that she makes it straight for PK (because oooooh sick kid in the hospital, who cares) and KH just grabs her before she gets even within 10ft of PK and has a chance to open her mouth and just tows her away.
* Hagface's marriage plans are about to lie in ruins at her feet - Jun Ha overheard the blackmail and ooooh - poor Kang Ha looked terrified but Hagface looked pissed off too - she knows her chance is gone.
2. Can anyone explain to me the Korean fixation with Yoona? I think she can't act (she was so wooden in 9 End 2 Outs they could have used her instead of the baseball bats), has no charisma, and has a creepy bird face. Yet Korea can't get enough of her.
mishane informed me that the makers of Athena offered her a part (thankfully she turned it down). I presume not lead (though Koreans did think it was a good idea to pair her with Kwon Sang Woo so who knows) but even so - appalling. WHY? I do not get.
3. Trailers and character descriptions for the upcoming sageuk Dong Yi are out. My very short summary of them is thus.
Dong Yi - sort of like an updated Damo - noble girl whose father gets executed for treason and who descends into slavery. Unlike Damo who solved crimes and lusted for her rebel brother, Dong Yi embarks on a much more sustainable course of solving crimes and lusting for her studly King. That way lie nice clothes, tiaras, and all the "off with their heads" you may want, so I am all for it.
Studly King - is a studly King. Strong, smart, ruthless and with conflicts in his harem (genius, stick to one wife!). One thing that strikes me as potentially awesome is that it seems he's the one who ordered Dong Yi's Papa executed in order to strengthen his rule.
Quasi-Bidam - played by every woman's sex fantasy Bae Soo Bin (or, wait, is it just me?). if they expect me not to ship him with Dong Yi, they are crazy, as he is supposed to be her dead brother's best friend protecting Dong Yi all her life as promised and is also a lowly corpse-exeminer by day but a mad-skilled ninja by night - a member of a secret fighting organization that wipes out corrupt officials. He also loves Dong Yi all his life. Sorry, Studly King. Your harem will have to do without adding me to the list of your admirers. You may get Dong Yi but Quasi-Bidam gets my heart.
Evil Wife - Studly King dug her but not Studly King's Mama. Blahblahblah is evil and executed but hopefully not before causing sturm and drang.

DEFINITELY NOT JUST YOU.
If BSB and HHJ were the OTP I would be on this drama like white on rice.
Well at least his character sounds like someone who might spend a lot of time angsting shirtless while the camera slowly pans up his sweaty torso.

Date: 2010-03-09 09:43 pm (UTC)Meanwhile I was headdesking over the thought of a wooden pop idol at all. Whoever they stick in better be like TOP - in a tiny role, bringing the LOLs. The thought that she could have been the heroine opposite JWS and CSW - I get cold sweat.

In the rain. While bleeding.
Why anyone thinks that with that cast and character descriptions anyone would be shipping Han Hyo Joo's character with the King, is beyond me (and I like Ji Jin Hee who plays the King. I do. But still...)

Date: 2010-03-09 09:56 pm (UTC)Lol they actually think she's a good actress don't they? But then again the few people who weren't stanning for YAB on there thought TOP did an amazing job so I shouldn't be surprised.
I think it's a small role like a guest spot or something. Or so I hope. There's no need for idols in good dramas. Stick them in the teenybopper OTT stuff.

Mmmm I like. Since he is a secret ninja there's a chance that this scene is possible *fingers crossed*

Ikr! Kings are great and all but secret ninja! Who's always loved and looked out for Heroine and played by Bae Soo Bin!
The worst part is I don't even like Ji Jin Hee because he butchered a an awesome character of my favourite drama in the Korean remake. I haven't forgiven him for that.

Date: 2010-03-09 10:13 pm (UTC)Anyone who thinks Yoona can hold her own with JWS or CSW is inhabiting a different planet.
(I am also cracking up at stuff elsewhere where fans are going nutty insisting only tall actresses must star because the guys are tall. WTF? Haven't they heard of heels? Or dramas like Trick and Capital Scandal? It's not the WNBA.)
JJH was in Densha Otoko remake, right? I've only seen him in Spring Day but was too busy lusting over Jo In Sung to pay much attention to him.

Date: 2010-03-09 10:29 pm (UTC)Lol they have to be tall? That's just weird. Shouldn't they hope for someone who can act? I hope they get someone short. It'll be fun to see the crazies flip their shit and I love me some height difference.
It was the Kekkon Dekinai Otoko remake and he was so bad. He didn't even try. He just mimicked Abe Hiroshi's every move and he didn't do it very well either.
It's hard to pay attention to anyone else when Jo In Sung is in the room.

Date: 2010-03-09 10:39 pm (UTC)Aahhahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa! I feel for her, slumming so badly with all these nobodies in a sequel to a drama nobody heard of.
It hurt my brain to type that.Sweetie, if JWS is good enough for Zhang Ziyi, Son Ye Jin and Jeon Ji Hyun to partner up with, I think he just may be good enough for Yoona...
(To be fair, when news of Athena was posted on omona, none of them knew who either of the guys were :P)
Yeah, the height thing makes no sense. I like petite leading ladies myself but who cares as long as she's pretty and can act?

Mmmm, yes.

Date: 2010-03-09 11:35 pm (UTC)Did they really not know who the guys were? I relatively new to Asian dramas but even I know who JWS is. Well, sucks for them for not knowing a good actor.

This.
I'm really curious as to who they will hire as the female lead.

Date: 2010-03-10 03:09 am (UTC)I knew who JWS was before I got into kdramas - I have heard of Musa and Moment to Remember even before that. Omona is not a place I visit often because the shrill teenyboperness of it gets on my nerves. It's amusing in small doses though.

I have my fantasy casting (in the unlikely event they ever cast Jeon Ji Hyun I'd spontaneously combust because of how hard I shipped them in Daisy) but as long as they get someone vaguely competent and age-appropriate, I am in.

Ita.
I would love it if they hired Jeon Ji Hyun. I think she can totally pull it off and she always manages to have good chemistry with her co-stars.

Date: 2010-03-09 11:21 pm (UTC)YEP Bae Soo Bin's role sounds like absolute perfection and although I know I'm gonna fall for the King eventually, I know I'll be spending a lot of time pining for him also.

Date: 2010-03-10 12:35 am (UTC)Oh my gosh THANK YOU. I tried to watch the first episode of Cinderella Man without knowing any of the actors and something about Yoona (and KSW) just turned me off. I had no idea she was an idol, I just knew right off the bat that I didn't like her. lol. It is definitely something about her face that bugs me... and now I sound shallow. haha.
Anyway, thank you so much for the Dong Yi previews. KYAAAAA!!!! Ninja Bae Soo Bin! ♥ My anticipation meter just shot up a whole lot.

Date: 2010-03-10 12:44 pm (UTC)Yes! This! That's exactly why he's the right guy for Pal-gang. People's true natures tend to reveal themselves when some scary like a very sick baby happens. They looked like parents. Pal-gang kept turning to Kang-ha for comfort and, even when she wasn't, Kang-ha still couldn't seem to keep his hands off her. Nothing sexual, of course. It was all he could do to comfort her. And I adored how he kept saying "our Nami". He was right in it with her.

Date: 2010-03-12 03:15 am (UTC)The hospital scenes were so awesome. They really did look like parents. That's the one thing about the OTP, you might not get a lot of "skinship" but whenever they're together they look like they're a pair. They just fit.
