Randomness
Feb. 25th, 2010 11:41 pm1. Soompi Chuno thread is becoming a bit of a shipper war zone. I know I should stay away but I am too addicted to the drama. Still, can't we all agree that TH and DG are both awesome characters and that UN loves them both, in different ways and at different times, and let it go at that?
2. Promos, posters, and/or trailers for 5 upcoming March kdramas are out.
Oh My Lady - stills look adorable. My high interest remains high.
A Man Called God - even though I am still appalled by Song Il Gook's weight loss and weird posters, the trailer actually was AWESOME. Come to Mama!
Birth of a Rich Man - I am iffy on the premise (can be good or not) and like the leading man, which overall equals ambivalence, and the poster doesn't solve it one way or another. I do plan to check it out - you never know, I had no expectations of Pick the Stars but I adore it now.
Cinderella Unni - its atmospheric, crisp snow shots scream melodrama and actually got me somewhat interested in this - I was not before because of my dislike of the leading lady and outrage that one of my favorite actresses has been reduced to a second lead. Not to mention a random boybander is playing a second lead. Chun Jung Myung, the male lead, is the only one I was enthusiastic about but he can't save a drama all by himself (see What's Up Fox). But I love emo melodrama, especially if snow is involved, and especially so after Will It Snow On Christmas left-over goodwill. So I will check this out now.
Personal Taste - I was so looking forward to this but the stills actually made me not too interested instead. It looks ditzy. I am indifferent to Son Ye Jin (I know she is a great movie actress but all I have seen her in was Summer Scent drama and she did not impress) and her fashions and grimaces in the poster don't inspire me - I don't want another ditzy heroine. Lee Min Ho looks like he's been a victim of fashion disaster. And overall, the stills are just offputting to the max.
The one I am most excited for is Road No. 1 (even if it's not a March drama) - its stills make me rabid. Korean War, here I come!

Date: 2010-02-26 04:53 pm (UTC)Actually, the Chuno thread is one of the most intelligent threads I have ever seen on soompi.

Date: 2010-02-26 05:56 am (UTC)That's why I
jokedsaid that I was shipping TH/DG. It's totally win/win. :D I have to make sure I don't let fandom ruin this drama for me... I love it too much. ♥I don't think I'm particularly excited about any of the upcoming dramas, but I might check out Dong Yi, Cinderella Unni and Road No.1. I'm not so much into war stuff, but wanted to see it for SJS.

Date: 2010-02-26 05:58 am (UTC)Unlike you, though, I pretty much like Taecyeon of 2PM. It's fairly recent, after seeing him in the Cass Beer music drama (he played a detective who got a tongue-tied crush on Yoon Eun-hye.)
I like Lee Min-ho's expressions and body language in the "Personal Taste" shots. :) Still excited about him playing straight-playing-gay.

Date: 2010-02-26 08:24 am (UTC)The stills are so boring. I'm glad that they haven't made LMH into this ultra feminine gay stereotype (or at least it looks that way for now) but SYJ seems like she's trying too hard to look cute maybe to compensate for her age? Which is one of the many many things that went wrong in BOF.

Date: 2010-02-26 09:46 am (UTC)Agree! Most people say the stills look cute and interesting... but they made me cringe. So awkward! -- They'll try to pull a reverse Coffee Prince and ultimately FAIL!

Date: 2010-02-26 01:34 pm (UTC)It isn't too bad, though. Nothing even remotely compared to things that usually go on (remember "East of Eden"!) in soompi threads. My thinking is - it seems this drama attracts quite a lot of very intelligent fans!
Me - I love them both with a big love (DG and TH I mean).
Cinderella Unni - I am bit confused? You dislike Moon Geun Young ? Why? Also - I haven't seen Seo Woo (the secondary girl) anywhere yet. What did you like her in?

Date: 2010-02-26 04:51 pm (UTC)I don't like MGY because I didn't like her in the one thing I saw her in - My Little Bride. Painter of the Wind sounded so very much not my thing I didn't even bother checking it out, and her other stuff also doesn't seem my thing. So all the accolades for her leave me a little puzzled.
Seo Woo - she was the lead in Tamra :)
But then there is the thing where I am a fiary tale traditionalist. Cinderella's stepsisters are supposed to be eeeeeeeevil. I rebel at other interpretations :)

Seo Woo - she was the lead in Tamra :)
Weird, this didn't come on her DramaWiki page. But never mind - I understand now.

You see, I think this is one of misogynist cliches ** grin ** that I am glad to see going down.

I root for Cinderella every time :)

Date: 2010-02-26 02:53 pm (UTC)A Man Called God - the trailer did the opposite for me. I lost all interest.
Birth Of A Rich Man - was never interested.
Oh My Lady - I love cougaring. Stills look cute.
Cinderella Unni - Excited.
Personal Taste - Also excited. This is despite hating the teaser shots. I'm trying to be optimistic, Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ho are love.
Road No. 1 - Ambivalent.

Date: 2010-02-27 02:49 am (UTC)I am a little unsure about the leading actors, not that they are bad. I had good impression on SIG in KINGDOM OF THE WIND and LOBBYIST, and do enjoyed some pleasant HCY moments in DELIGHTFUL GIRL CHOON-HYANG and also found her really ACTED the character sometimes in ONLY YOU (the whole story aside, I was moved by HCY’s character at some point). But will they create chemistry and sparkle? Will SIG do a competent job to play the dark, dangerous and poisonous role? Will HCY can successful play the upbeat, not weak and the-equal-to-the hero role (OK, weak heroine are not welcomed these days.)? Though HCY played this kind of heroine many times, it’s different in this drama where she has to face the BOSS OF A SECRET ORANATIONS and is involved in revenge. I think HCY is too ‘big’ and mature for SIG. They are not so matchable in an h/c relationship.
I am also worried about ending. The endings in romance/love novels can be more fantastical and dreamy, less realistic (fulfill the fangirls best!). But in drama world, it can’t do the same.
Maybe I just think too much. No one knows what will be presented before airing.
I am negative, but I highly hope this drama will win my heart. So wait to see whether the script and OTP will kick the fangirl of romance novels inside hard or just turn out to be another weird made-in-korea production.
Good luck to A Man Called God!
