According to the BBC article here, Martin Scorcese is going to be making a movie about my most favorite President ever: Teddy Roosevelt! War hero, cowboy, New York patrician, boxing champion, trustbuster, conservationist. I love the guy. And now he is getting a movie! And Scorcese is one of my all-time favorite directors. He also got Leo di Caprio (who definitely seems his new fave) to play Teddy. He doesn't look much like older Teddy, but as younger one? Who knows. Anyway, I don't care about the physical resemblance because I thought he did an incredible job in The Aviator, and if he could pull that off, he could pull off Teddy.

Leo?! Really? That's an interesting choice.

But - I thought he was simply amazing in The Aviator (and should have won the Oscar), so I think it could be done. Leo is a much better actor than he's given credit for, really. Hmmm...This one could have potential!

I know. I am very excited. I don't really care about "looks like the person." I don't think it matters if they can convey the sense of the character.

I second that completely. It's much more important to "get" the character than anything else. Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line is an example of this.

Does the Teddy R project have a schedule yet? (My computer hates me and didn't want to open the article.)

Not sure. I know Scorcese is filming another movie right now (with Leo and Matt Damon) about Irish gangs in Boston, so I assume it will be after that.

According to the article: "Variety said the film would follow Roosevelt's progress from asthmatic lightweight to commander of the First US Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, known as The Rough Riders, and on to the White House. "

Hmmm. Well, it sounds interesting and if they do it, I'll go. :)

I think Leo is his new de Niro (I guess you have to be Italian to have an in :P)

It's an interpretation-remake of HK movie "Infernal Affairs" which I liked. So it will be interesting.

I guess you have to be Italian to have an in ROFL! True, true.

Leo is much nicer to look at than DeNiro, though. ;)

That'll be fascinating. Teddy was quite a maverick. A president with some personal intergrity and idiosyncratic as all hell. I would love to see some of that today. It'll be fascinating as well to see Leo's take and how they might draw parallels between the Spanish American war and our current war in Iraq.

Yes, I loved Teddy. He certainly knew his own mind (and had it).

My favorite president is the other Roosevelt, although Teddy was a pretty good one, I guess. If it weren't for a few of his policies...

I am not that fond of FDR (shocking), mainly because of some of his pre-WWII actions.
