OK, I came across this comment re: Deathly Hallows regarding Ron.

Someone was calling him a 'date rapist.'

WHAT??????????????????????????????????????

I must have missed that bit where he forced screaming Hermione to the floor. Or slipped rohypnol into Lavender's drink after finishing with Luna. Or incapacitated and had his way with Professor McGonagall.

THE HELL???

HOW? On what basis? WTF???

Man, he didn't even kiss Hermione first! She is the one who jumped him!

Fine, don't like Ron, I don't care. Heck, think he is not a good match for Hermione, I don't care (though I disagree).

But how about trying to have your character judgments in mildly the same universe as JKR's canon facts?

Just because Hermione picked him over Harry (who was emphatically never interested in her that way anyway which you could see from oh...book 3 on) does not mean Ron is the font of all evil.

Seriously. Harry/Hermione is the only ship I actively loathe because it has such loonies in it.*

* I am sure there are many lovely H/Hr shippers, but I've never seen so many nutty shippers as I did with that ship.

ETA: He is a date rapist, apparently, because he was reading an advice/self-help book on how to win a witch's heart. Umm. OK. Forget it, these people don't function on earth logic.

Well, the H/Hr-ers have been attacked by some nutty R/Hr-ers too. These shippy wars are pointless and everybody should enjoy the book anyway they see fit and leave the others with their personal opinion, and that's it.

I'm a H/Hr shipper and I admit there are a lot of nutty people in my ship, but that goes for every ship, me thinks ^^ Being so long in this fandom (lets see... almost 6 years) taught me that it's better to close my eyes to some things I don't like and just enjoy the book, movies and the company of the good people I met through this fandom :)

BTW.. why were they calling him a date rapist? I didn't see Ron doing anything wrong.

No idea (literally, they didn't say why). That is why I was so boggled.

HP ship wars are vicious, worse than Buffy's. :)

o.0 Did you see that comment in a H/Hr forum or something? All my friends love Ron (most even like R/Hr), but I guess some people in my ship are simply jealous Ron got the girl, or something. *shrugs*

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Yeah.

The thing is, I have no objection for people to prefer H/Hr (how could I?) but there were people who literally believed H/Hr would get together in 7th book and are well...not being too rational.

*giggles* I was one of those who kept my hopes up... my brain told me H/Hr wouldn't happen, no way. But my heart always hopes for H/hr... But now I know, and I'll just stick with the subtle (maybe even delusional ;P) moments.

I'm glad it's all fiction and I can interpret them anyway I want. It's much more interesting that way, because I can enjoy canon for what it is, and fanon too, with the ships I wish had happened :)

WORD.

I have read so much about GINNY bashing too. What did the WEASLEYS do to them anyway?? .-.

BLOODYHELL.

Me, too. So there. ;-p

I think I'm VERY glad that while I adored the books, I never stepped foot into the fandom until sticking a toe in after DH. I came across that same comment about Ron and was all, "WTF???"

OMG. YES!?!

What is with the Ginny bashing...ahh...just cause she married Harry doesn't make her the frickin' enemy...grr...so dumn...

Ginny is a GREAT, well-fleshed out character IMVHO...I mean, just because she is not with the Trio all the time(but she sorta is after Ootp) doesn't make her "pathetic"...I hate the Ginny hate...it's so uncalled for. I mean, Hermione is NOT my favourite character but I wouldn't go bashing her about it...

STOP ABUSING GINNY...SHE FRICKIN' ROCKS, OK? AND SHE IS MARRIED TO HARRY SO JUST LEARN TO FRICKIN' DEAL CRAZY H/Hr Shippers(oh...the word "delusiona" comes to mind...:P)

From: [identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com
that is just...bizarre...granted, my knowledge of the HP universe is more limited, but i got the feeling that the ONLY way Ron would ever get any action is by Hermione(or another female, if that's someone's preference, whatever) took the initiative.

Did they at least have an example or something?

Date: 2007-07-23 06:50 pm (UTC)

Nah, no example.

HP fandom is scary, I generally stay out.

so he's a date rapist for reading a self-help book, probably to work up the guts to ask someone out.

right then.

Exactly. He was totally reading the book to learn about how to pay compliments and do nice things, because before he was such a clueless guy about it but he liked Hermione and wanted her to like him back.

OMG, that means I know so many date rapists and am even one myself as I have totally read one of those stupid dating guides some years back.

Oh no. Lock me up.

Yup. I mean, it's the fandom that has giant squid/hogwart students ships. Or twincest. Or people lamenting that Voldy is dead.

From: [identity profile] fivil.livejournal.com
Well, I'll be damned. He was learning some manners from a book because clearly books 4-6 indicated he just didn't know how to handle girls, how to be favorable to them, so he found out a bit about that! Heaven forbid. Total rapist. Especially seeing as how she already liked him, just disliked his way of acting towards her, as she should as he could be quite an idiot in his behavior. XDDD

H/Hr opinions on Ron go into one ear and immediately slide out of the other one for me, personally. I don't pay attention because I've learned it's so not worth it.

Yeah, I read that. I just knew some of the crazy H/Hr shippers would take to that and then start yelling it all over the place. I don't know if the guy who wrote all this is also an H/Hr shipper but anyway, he had the book ahead of time and a few days before it came out, he wrote a spoilery complete rundown of what happens in the book. A bunch of people on the DH spoiler LJ community seemed to be H/Hr shippers and that was one of the most complete rundowns besides the "carpet book" itself. He took it down a day later since he could get in trouble putting it up ahead of time but he's just re-posted it now that it's legal. Anyway, I think part of the problem is that the book Ron gave Harry was titled something like "how to charm a witch" and in the rundown the LJguy seemed to have latched onto the word "charm" as though it meant using magic to charm a witch and control her into wanting the guy. Which is BS in regards to Ron because he was so clearly just using the book to help him stop putting his foot in his mouth and help him to remember to compliment Hermione more. Here's the link to that guy and what he said (he's a jackass towards Ron all the way through):

http://mightygodking.livejournal.com/345287.html#cutid1
What he said:
"Page 111: "Chapter Seven: The Will of Albus Dumbledore." Opens up with Harry waking up to discover he is seventeen and can do magic. Ron celebrates by giving Harry a book on how to magically control chicks. No, seriously, that is what Ron does, all the while extolling about how if he'd only had this book last year he totally would have boned Lavender Brown. Ron Weasley: date rapist. (Okay, in fairness, the book is not ENTIRELY about using magic to get laid. But still, Ron giving Harry the wizarding equivalent of "The System" is creepy all on its own.)"

Where I saw that, it was just a running joke in the guy's commentary on the book, not meant to be taken seriously and not any sort of anti-shippy thing at all.

If that's the commentary I read, hmmmm. I don't know, I sort of took it he meant it, but YMMV. Maybe all the crazies at the Portkey made me twitchy.

I wish people hadn't learned to lock/flock their wank. I've found plenty of good stuff via f_w, though, so I should just be grateful for that.

I'm only a casual HP reader — not in the fandom and not shipping anyone — so I don't get too worked up when people trash characters I like. I think I enjoy HP wank more than the actual books! :D

who the hell said that?????

RON IS NOT A DATE RAPIST.... so mad... and the self help book is so he can be more smooth you know less foot in mouth syndrome... remember the whole hermione and krum debacle.... hence the need for the advice book... and people who read dating advice books aren't date rapists their people who need a little bit of help in that department... sorry mousie i am ranting since i love RON and i was sooo happy about him and HERMIONE...

also harry and hermione... it doesn't make sense.. harry treates her like a sister and ron and hermione is like james and lily....

OMFG!?! What the hell...?!

Ok, I almost laughed because I thought you were just joking...just because your ships didn't work out don't need to get so harsh...date rape?Oh please...atleast make it make sense...

I am so happy that not ONLY did JKR make R/Hr and H/G CANON she also made Harry say(and I QUOTE PPL) "I only think of her as a SISTER and a FRIEND and I think she feels the same way aswell"....how much more proof do you frickin' need?

Aaargh...calling him a date rapist because he bought a self-help dating book(which, correct me if I am wrong) is just for a bit of fun/humourous....geez...so pathetic that people start making up like FICTION and confusing it with CANON...arrgh

ok, not ALL Harry/Hermione shippers are evil (some are actually quite civilized) but ummm, to quote Emerson from Mugglenet.com I would say some are STILL "delusional"

Date: 2007-07-28 05:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] carviangli.livejournal.com
uggh...I read someone post somewhere that the whole H/Hr comment on "like a sister/brother" isn't supposed to be taken literally because thats what Lupin said about Sirius and they are obviously in love or some crackpot shit...

...do these people even read Harry Potter...ok be delusional and skip frickin CANON proof but do NOT start making up crap and saying that Sirius was in love with Lupin?! That is just strange...

Guuh...were do these H/Hr shippers come from?! Did they not READ the last book in which Harry and Ginny CLEARLY are Happily married with three kids and Ron and Hermione happily married with two kids...

...geez...these shippers are crazy delusional...

Wow... I LOVE HP, but I've never been involved in the fandom. It just never occurred to me that there would be insane H/Hr shippers out there. IMO, the ongoing theme throughout the story has always been predominantly friendship and family - the romance is more like the icing on the cake. So, to dwell on the romantic issues sort of undermines the entire story, which is sooooo much more than that.

In the first couple of books, I also thought thought there was a possibility between H & Hr. But it became pretty obvious after that they were more like brother & sister. You'd think ppl would get over it by now!
