dangermousie: (IRIS by loubox)
[personal profile] dangermousie

Instead of doing something super-productive with my rare moment of afternoon free time as Baby Mousie was napping, I watched the IRIS behind-the-scenes special. In unsubtitled Korean. I have never watched a drama special (subbed or not) before. I think at this point, it's official to say that this drama is bucking for my favorite kdrama ever status.

(You know, it kills me how easily Hyun Joon used to smile)

It was a great deal of fun (worth it, if for nothing else, the scene where Lee Byung Hun starts cracking up in the middle of his and Kim Tae Hee's big bed scene).

Even better, it did a recap of the drama thus giving me a slew of gorgeous caps.

In fact, if you think you may want to check out this drama, click behind the cut, for a huge amount of gorgeous non-spoilery caps.

Bonus: cast talking and behind the scenes:

I swear, JJH looks about 12 in this shot:

I know which job I want!

In conclusion, what gives with cutting this kiss out, KBS? Huh? I am so buying the official DVDs, however pricy they are.

It's almost eerie to look at this screen cap and to think back on how one simple order led to so much bloodshed, betrayal, emotional and physical torture and heartbreak. I actually can't see myself rewatching this any time soon, simply because I'm not sure I'd be able to handle the happy scenes at the beginning (i.e. the one's between SaWoo and Hyun Joon and Seung Hee and Hyun Joon) without bawling. Definitely one of my favourite drama's of all time.

I know - it is absolutely ridiculous but I was tearing up during the little recap the behind-the-scenes did. It really hits you how normal everyone was in the beginning - in the drama itself it's a gradual loss but juxtposed like this, it's pretty horrific.

Die die die Baeksan why don't you die?

Ditto to every sentiment in your post.

:(

I get so emotional over IRIS - it's pretty unsual for me. (I get riled up easily, fiction-wise, but I calm down really quickly too, but not here).

I feel somewhat foolish now that I'm past it but last week or so, I literally could not stand to think & read about IRIS. I can almost relate to JJH wanting to burn SaWoo's wardrobe if it could help him break the spell & shed his character for good.

PS. My Man Godfrey was lovely, so much charm from the two leads.

No, that makes sense - I couldn't watch any other dramas for a bit and just obsessively rewatched IRIS bits which is really unusual for me.

I can almost relate to JJH wanting to burn SaWoo's wardrobe if it could help him break the spell & shed his character for good.

He said that?

I am so glad you liked Godfrey. It's such a madcap movie.

Not in the special, but some fans saw him the day after the finale at the NSS set to throw him an early birthday celebration (he's 40 today) and heard him say it. (He had to promise them not to throw away the SaWoo cake they made for him.) I'm pretty sure he was joking (and there'll come a time when it won't feel so raw for him) but the character was in such a dark place the last 2 months or so that I think he wanted to do something to exorcise it.

Oh wow!

And he is 40? No way. He looks way younger.

Now I have a yen to rewatch Last Scandal.

LBH is 39, JJH 40 (though they banter like they're the same age) and Kim SeungWoo 41-42ish (the only one married with kids). Here's hoping in 2010 JJH will finally realize his dream & settle down. He wants to, desperately, but... see crazy ex-girlfriends.

Now I have a yen to rewatch Last Scandal.

In a perfect world, he'd have gone from LS to IRIS to LS2... the actual order would have been LS-LS2-(maybe)IRIS but like I said, perfect world...

Just read through [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf's thread on the finale. I'm feeling either sane or sadistic...

Just looking at this cap (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/Dangermousie/a%20love%20to%20kill/AM-AIRISSpecial091223HDTVX264450-5.jpg) makes me want to bawl.

Oh Christ, the ending. I finished Iris last night, and I could not stop crying. I just keep flashing back to what you and wolfie said about how she'll be waiting for him, slowly getting more and more worried about him and then finding his body in the car and uggggh. I'm almost dreading a second series, simply because if the characters are half as engaging and I get half as attached to them as I did in this season, I will be another emotional mess.

I kept crying and crying. It's about the most cruel ending you can imagine. I can't even picture what's going to happen afterwards - how Seung Hee is going to react. My God.

Wasn't that special fun? Really shows it's been a labor of love for everyone involved. It's so obvious how much the cast & crew cherish what they've achieved, how hard they've worked together, and how much they're going to miss it & each other.

If nothing else, it's also so much easier to watch than the finale because at least they're laughing & smiling & look happy even if half of them look & sound spent.

The special was really fun.

I have to say, the more I learn about insane schedules making dramas requires, the more I am amazed any Korean actors are still walking.

I have an untold amount of respect for what many in the business can pull off under duress. Sure, everyone would prefer more ideal conditions, but sometimes you have to work with the cards you're dealt, and the way these people go about it is pretty d@mn impressive. And why the inane comparisons with US dramas irk me. That's like telling kids in inner cities why they aren't doing as well as those from prep schools, even if the gap isn't half as wide.

Exactly. That is why I respect even those actors I don't like even or even if they are working on dramas I don't like - e.g. I don't like Goo Hye Sun as an actress but any bit of fame she deserves is a-ok with me because from reading stuff about Boys Over Flowers filming - the working ethic one must have to deal with all of this was insane. I am always impressed by hard work.
