Out of about a million dramas out there this spring, this is my Drama Spring Roster, i.e. the ones I am following and thus the ones you can expect to see me blab about.

JAPAN

Smile: One episode is out so far. I am so desperate to see this one, I started watching this raw, because arashi.vox's subs are going to be a bit late. Why? I will basically watch anything Matsumoto Jun is in, and this being a love story and social commentary on mistreatment of foreigners, plus written by the writer of Hanadan and Utahime, and directed by the director of Hanadan, I am set, so very set.

KOREA

Princess Ja Myung Go: Eleven episodes are out so far. I have yet to see a Korean period drama that was not good, but PJMG seems especially made for me - a strong female protagonist, doomed love, poisonous politics, amazing fights, dysfunctional families, gorgeous art design. I love this drama so incredibly much.

Slingshot: Five episodes are out so far. I like gritty dark revenge dramas, so it would have probably always been something for me to check out, but once I found out the screenwriter was the one who wrote Legend, Sandglass, and Eyes of Dawn, I came madly on-board.

TAIWAN

Black and White: Four episodes are out so far. It is THE drama of the spring season for me. Have a bunch of my favorite actors, throw in great production values, action scenes, friendship, twisty plot, strong women, and promise of clever story and angst. I am so very sold.

ToGetHer: ten episodes are out. There is always room for whimsical, tender romantic comedy on my list, and I have been quite in love with this drama so far. Not to mention the story of an otaku and a washed-out idol is deliciously off-kilter, and I adore both Jiro Wang and Rainie Yang.

REJECTS

Atashinchi no Danshi (Japan): I like Horikita Maki but not enough to watch her interact with a bunch of remarkably unattractive men.

Knock Knock Loving You (Taiwan): Knock Knock Raping You is more like it. No thank you. I don't need a Dylan Kuo (thankfully the non-rapist in this one) fix that badly.

Empress Chin Chu (Korea): this sounds very much like my thing, being a period epic and a woman-centric one to boot, but I can handle only one long period drama at a time.

Queen of Housewives (Korea): even the title is boring.

City Hall (Korea): you know what is even more boring than Queen of Housewives? A drama about a small-town city mayor. No thanks.

Cinderella Man (Korea): glad as I am to see a drama where Kwon Sang Woo won't die in agony or have his loved ones do the same, this just sounds really really uninspired - though two look-alikes, one poor one rich, is cute enough I might check out if one of my watched dramas ends.

a bunch of remarkably unattractive men.

:DEAD:

My only reason to watch it would be these men that you call unattractive. XD Since I kinda hate Maki and all~

Plus I've seen 5 of the 6 (there's 6, right?) of the brothers in other dramas/movies and I actually love 3 of them, so. XD

I need internet at my new apartment NOW so I can watch ep 10 of ToGetHer. I fall more and more in love with Jiro with each episode.

ep 10 was so very cute.

I tried the Empress one but it failed to grab me. ): Such a shame -- I wanted a strong historical heroine for once.

Have you tried PJMG? It also has a strong heroine.

Have you seen Yukemuri Sniper (jdrama)? An assassin wants to reset his life and works now in an onsen - while trying to hide his background history he helps out if trouble comes.

As for Atashinchi no Danshi... I already have a feeling that the contract will still go on after 3 months, saying something about the lines that now she should go out with one of the sons for a time...

Cinderella Man... don't know what it's about, but I like the title. Makes me remember Cinderella ni Naritai... and I did love that one. ^^

Nope, haven't seen Sniper - is it airing now?

Are you planning to watch Mr. Brain with Kimura Takuya, Ayase Haruka and Mizushima Hiro? Another Spring drama, though it won't start until late May.

I'm watching both B&W and ToGetHer already, though I'm very badly behind on the latter. Why is there never enough time to watch everything?! :P

Smile sounds interesting, so I'm going to check it out. Rest of my drama roster is still very open, since I still have a several previous seasons' dramas to finish first...

Ugh, tell me about it. I only got to finish one jdrama from the winter season and there are new ones coming already. Hows a girl supposed to keep up?!

Re: Mr. Brain. I am not big on mystery of the week dramas but the cast of it makes it tempting. Still, probably not unless my drama roster clears up.

OMG, I LURV reading your posts! I'm up for all your picks but I'll probably try City Hall and at least the first episode of Atashinchi no Danshi. LOL at Knock Knock RAPING You! You took the hit for me on that one, thanks, I owe ya!

Uh, what's this about knocking and rape?! I watched the first ep of Togehter last night and Jiro is hot. I might give Queen of Housewives a try, but most of the dramas I'm excited about this season are japanese. Go figure, oh and I might watch Atashinchi no Danshi. I thought one or two of them weren't that bad looking.

Jiro is, indeed, very hot. Let me know if Housewives is good :)

YES, Smile is a must scene for this season. i am too a big matsujun fan and watch everything that he does. i like its romantic part but it also has a heavy theme of descrimination agaist non-japanese people who live in japan. i read that it is not being well recieved bu japanese audiences. Pitty. BUT I AM LOVING THIS.

"Atashinchi no Danshi (Japan): I like Horikita Maki but not enough to watch her interact with a bunch of remarkably unattractive men. "
can't agree more with exception of Jun Kaname. but i don't think i will watch it even for his sake. recently, i just get too irritated by everything maki does. i don't think she is that good as they say. i only loved her in Nobuta Wo Produce.

Yeah, even Kaname Jun doesn't do it for me - too girly for my tastes. This drama sounds kinda giggly-lame.

I was so excited about PJMG but I found the first ep really boring (until about the end of the ep) so I don't know if I should continue. After the disaster of BOF I need some strong heroines though.

Smile sounds interesting but I have a feeling it will end in tragedy since it's got a foreigner, a deaf girl and discrimination.

oh my god, i was just writing about the same thing in smile thread on d-a. you read my mind.

Oh yeah I think I'll hold off on watching it until it's done and I know it gets a good ending.

you are so lucky to be able to do that. i am too jun-obsessed to wait.
