IRIS has ended
Dec. 17th, 2009 10:10 amI am considerate and not posting even a mood outside the cut

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.
I am crying.
Fuck.
NOT FAIR.
They saved the President, Seung Hee is not evil, Sa Woo dies but redeems himself, all awesome.
And then Hyun Joon is driving to meet Seung Hee who is waiting for him only to be killed by an unseen sniper.
FUCK FUCK FUCK.
It makes sense - it bleakly does - there is no way he could have rooted IRIS out, not really. But oh GOD. Oh GOD.
I am crying, I can't stand it.
FUCK.
It's like that really famous scene in All In where Song Hye Kyo is waiting for him, happy and unknowing, as he gets shot, but there he wasn't killed after all - not like this here.
Oh God.
He never got to really enjoy life, to have a truly happy stretch with Seung Hee!
And after all of the stuff he went through.
And OMG, what will happen to Seung Hee? She almost went insane the first time!
FUCK.
FUCK.
It makes sense, it totally does, it's not a bad or sloppy ending that way, but I can't deal.
Seriously guys, I am crying. I am just sitting here, bawling. I can't stop.
This is the first drama that truly broke my heart (I have cried for other endings before but I was never invested like this). Oh God.
ETA: I am still upset, I can't deal with it, I've been thinking about nothing but this for half an hour now. I am so not doing this again with an airing drama - never.
ETA2: An hour, and I am still sobbing levels of upset. Someone at soompi had a really interesting theory - that Hyun Joon is killed not just to punish him for foiling IRIS but as a punishment to Seung Hee - because she refused to join IRIS, this is her punishment - to have the man she loves more than life taken from her. Which actually correlates with where he is killed - they could have as easily stabbed him on a Seoul street. But they waited until he was almost at his meeting place with her - I bet I know who will find him and how she will react. FUCK. This is brutal.
Talk to me, someone!
I am not sure I can face repeating this torture of suspence with Chuno, Christmas and IRIS s2. But I am sure I will do so anyway.
ETA3: Oh, for goodness' sake, soompiers - the ending does not suck merely because you did not get what you wanted. If the ending makes logical sense, then it's good. Thank you.

Date: 2009-12-17 04:03 pm (UTC)But OMG - I think Hyun Joon is my favorite drama character ever so this is - I am not really rational about it. And to do it just at the moment of OTP happiness is so brutal.
I suppose it could have been worse. He could have been shot in her arms. GRAH.
Thanks for the hugs!

Date: 2009-12-17 05:29 pm (UTC)I'm sorry, but I just can't watch Iris now. I'm so glad I didn't pick it up while it was airing - I spend my life in an effort to avoid exactly this kind of ending/situation - because I simply can't handle it. GAH.

Date: 2009-12-17 05:33 pm (UTC)I grew up on Russian novels and 19th century French lit so this sort of an ending is not uncommon to me (and it's a well-written unhappy ending not one just thrown in there) but oh God - I am such a wreck!
I mean - guess who is going to find him! Shot to death! With an engagement ring for her! His true love, that's who.
My God, the writers are SADISTS. But it could have been so much worse. If they were going to kill one of them, it's just as well it's Hyun Joon. If Seung Hee was the one who died, they might as well killed him too because her being there was the only way he was functional.

no subject
Date: 2009-12-17 06:52 pm (UTC)Sun Hwa is OK - she got wounded in the 'protect the President' melee but survived.
I wonder if Sun Hwa and Seung Hee will now team up and hunt down and destroy whoever killed Hyun Joon. Yes please.

Date: 2009-12-17 09:56 pm (UTC)Oh God! WHY?!?
I don't think I can handle this...
I'll be marathoning it today and tomorrow (I stopped at 9). At least I'm kinda prepared...
This is my first drama where the protagonist dies (Sang-doo doesn't count because at least their together). I hope you feel better and watch something that is happy.

Date: 2009-12-17 09:58 pm (UTC)If there was anyone who deserved to be happy, it was those two - they went through so much horribleness and they loved each other so much.

Date: 2009-12-17 10:10 pm (UTC)How about just some hugs?
I should be happy HyunJoon & SaWoo (and SeungHee) reconciled and yet... the first time I watched it, which was hours ago, I was too depressed about how they got there (it may make more sense once you see it) & too busy coping with it to really absorb what was happening. It's only just now I had myself a good cry watching those scenes again and it helps a bit.
As for the finale's ending... of course, pretty much everyone's in an uproar about it but I hashed it over with some others @DCgall & if the point they were trying to make was that if an individual, a mere mortal (be it the president or someone like HJ or SH or ultimately SW) tries to defy an organization like IRIS, they'll pay a price, well, the finale made that point. Someone @DCgall summed it up as forbidden fruit=free will and I think it fits into the overriding point.

Date: 2009-12-17 10:18 pm (UTC)And honestly, even though I find it devastating - because I loved Hyun Joon the way I never loved another drama character, ever - it does make sense to me (maybe I've read too much John LeCarre). There is no way they could have ever rooted out IRIS - how could they? It's like the Mob - you can weaken it or get rid of individual leaders, but you cannot eradicate it fully and you will pay the price, sooner or later (look at the Voice - it took them years but they tracked him down).
It's true, if you think about it, all the good guys got punished either through death (Hyun Joon or Sa Woo - so glad he was redeemed) or through death of a loved one (Seung Hee, Sun Hwa). In a way, after it all, IRIS still wins. Logically and narratively I like this bleakness (it's not as if our protagonist was facing one small underground mob unit a la Dog/Wolf) but emotionally, it's still ripping me to shreds.
In some ways, Hyun Joon is the luckier one - if a sniper did his job right, he'd never even know he was dead. But I honestly cannot imagine what this will do to Seung Hee. This time there is no wiggle room, there is no Sa Woo to give her strength, not even Baeksan (who had a soft spot for her), nothing. And she will probably be the one to find him, too. I can see her snapping at last.

Date: 2009-12-18 01:34 am (UTC)I should have known. Should have heed the title of your post but stupid me, who loves to spoil myself decided to just read this anyway.
Now, I am torn. Torn between subjecting myself to this kind of torture OR missing out on such an awesome drama and save myself from being emotionally drained!
GEEZUS FUCKING CHRIST IN HEAVEN.
I,too have watched some really fucked up ending but this has got to top the list.
Ugh.
The look on Hyun Joon's face...haunting.
Oh IRIS!

Date: 2009-12-18 05:06 am (UTC)I am so devastated for Hyun Joon I can barely bear it. I keep writing a ridiculous au in my head where he isn't dead, just wounded, and he gets rescued and he and Seung Hee are spirited into hiding and live happily ever after.
God.

WRECKED

Date: 2009-12-21 03:35 am (UTC)I cannot help but think and replay in my head what will happen after the last minute of the drama. Seung Hee waiting by that lighthouse, eager and happy and slowly getting puzzled and worried not seeing him. And calling his phone and nobody picking up, and growing more and more panicky. And then driving off, to look for him, and seeing his car on the road, and finding him there, dead, with a ring for her.
My God.
That is horrific.
I CAN'T STOP CRYING. I'VE BEEN CRYING FOR PRETTY MUCH AN HOUR. Ever since Sa Woo gave Hyun Joon that joyful smile and threw him a clip like old times. AUGH. This will be a drama that haunts me.
