ETA: You know, between Lee Byung Hun's insane ex-girlfriend and now a third girl in a row sending a letter to her idol of choice in her own blood (!!!!!), I am beginning to think that kdrama crazy secondary girls aren't too exaggerated.

Thank you everyone for your good wishes. They worked!

In unrelated news, I have finally been convinced by [livejournal.com profile] yunhalove to check out the kdrama Hello God which is apparently based on Flowers for Algernon, one of books I truly love. What Koreans can do with the angst potential of a story of a retarded (literally) young man who is operated on to become a genius but who is faced with the fact that his newly-found brain-power and ability are now slowly leaching away to leave him back where he started, I can only imagine.

There is, of course, shipping.

I would, perhaps, been persuaded to check this out sooner if I knew that the leading man looked like this:

Here is a MV:

Oh, and pssst, apparently *gasp* nobody dies.

I adored Hello God. I hope you really like it. Because, it was such an interesting and beautifully done drama. Plus - male lead is hot.

I remember loving the novel it's based on (though it was such a long time since I read it, I only remember the general plot).

I can't wait to watch.

And "mmmmmmmmmmmmm" basically sums up my thoughts on the male lead.

It really is a wonderful novel. The series is rather good, if not a bit slow at certain parts.

The male lead, I just hate that he isn't in much and is rarely a large role.

Yeah - I looked him up and was disappointed to find it so :(

I think he mostly models. I think that he's not so much underrated as he's an average actor whose maybe too pretty for a lot of roles. I don't know, I just think he's pretty.

I liked him in this drama with Kim Ok Bin. When they were shippy, they were awesome. (Though it takes her a while.) One of my favorite shippy things in this drama is that Haru (male lead) tends to crawl into Eun-hye's (female lead) bed and sleep next to her. He starts when they first meet and keeps doing.

I liked that this drama had no secondary girl. But, Lee Jong Hyuk's character - I ended up nearly hating him. Talk about trying to play God. He sort of becomes an ass.

LJH is so good at playing evil.

he's an average actor whose maybe too pretty for a lot of roles

That makes sense.

One of my favorite shippy things in this drama is that Haru (male lead) tends to crawl into Eun-hye's (female lead) bed and sleep next to her. He starts when they first meet and keeps doing.

WHUT

I need this drama NOW.

OMG a KDrama version of Flowers For Algernon?!?! I love that book. Since I have finals and quite a few dramas on my plate right now, I will wait for your assessment before watching it.

Oh no, I almost cried when I read Flowers for Algernon. It was so sad. ._. I'd probably bawl my eyes out if I watched a drama version.

The original short story (which was later expanded into a novel) was amazing, but made me cry buckets, so I think I'll pass on the drama. This is also one of my Strongly Emotional Subjects, since my youngest sister has Down's.

Shockingly enough, the drama has a much happier ending than the book, but yes, I see what you mean.

I can relate. My sister is severely autistic, so the short story/novel had me bawling too. I can see why you'd choose not to watch the drama.

I assure you however, that the drama is a lot lighter in terms of certain aspects that really impacted me in the book(ex: Haru, unlike Charlie, isn't severely mistreated and ends up leading a relatively happy life despite the events that occur in the drama).

That sounds reassuring. I might give the drama a chance then. Thank you!

I've seen him in something else, I'm almost positive I have. Except it wasn't Korean.

Great. It's gonna bother me forever now.

And umm, to the comment above, he crawls in BED WITH HER? OMG WANT!

You have to update on this.

Half an ep in, and i like it - barely seen the hero yet, but heroine is AWESOME SWINDLER and Lee Jong Hyuk is the sexiest surgeon ever.

OMG SQUEE. You're watching it! <3333

Anyway- I should mention a lot of the issues prominent in the actual book are nonexistent in the movie (which could be a good or a bad thing) plus everything's changed besides the basic premise. I still find it a really enjoyable drama once you start thinking of it as its own story. IMO, it's a completely seperate/different experience from reading the actual novel.

AND OMG. CAN'T WAIT FOR YOUR POSTS, SRSLY.

I am half an ep in (post coming up) and I really like it.

One problem - I am fancying the pants off Lee Jong Hyuk and I know he's the other guy :)

OMBH (oh my Byung Hun!), truth is stranger than fiction. Also, I wonder if she was insane when they started dating.
