dangermousie: (Capital Scandal by Fleur on soompi)

I have just finished episode 12 of City Hall and I feel like someone who's had a cup of warm strong tea after coming in from the rain. It just so hits the spot. This year has been a year where many a drama I anticipated eagerly (BOF, My Fair Lady, YAB) disappointed and others I thought would be awful made me fall in love (Tamra, Brilliant Legacy, City Hall) and I am so happy.

Episode 12 basically sums up why you should watch City Hall today if you haven't yet.

Reason 1: It features a heroine who can say this:

Reason 2: It features a hero who looks at her proudly and warmly when she says it:

Reason 3: Slashy teasing.

Reason 4: Because when a city hall jerk tries to school Mi-Rae in "her place" because she is a political outsider and a woman, Mi-Rae sticks it to him, hard.

Reason 5: Fun political machinations.

Reason 6: Cha Seung Won is hot and wears exclusively suits.

Reason 7: Adorable OTP jealousy. No matter the political experience, goofiness occurs.

Reason 8: Swoony romantic moments. That can cost her her heart and him his political future.

Reason 9: Kim Sun Ah's amazing faces.

Reason 10: Female friendship:

I kind of wanna watch this because I'm interested in how the Korean political system works, but I dunno. From the caps where Cha Seung Won and Kim Sun Ah are hugging, I'm sure my heart might break, but I think the biggest reason I wanna watch this is the politics and government aspect of this drama. Does it focus a lot on gov't and politics?

There is a lot of campaigning going on for mayor and for governor. And political speeches. It didn't really teach me anything new - politics is a dirty game.

It does focus on govt/politics but not in an incomprehensible way.

And pssssst...never fear - it's a happy ending!

Oh dear, I forgot the names of the characters...

But I loved it whenever the guy would imitate Kim Sun Ah. I laughed SO hard. Now I have to hunt down all those scenes again. Or just rewatch this series final exams be damned. The chemistry between the two leads was amazing. They had me swooning ALL the time **sigh. It took me awhile to get past the first episode, but once I did, I lost a lot of sleep marathoning this :P

I just wanted to say that skimming through your journal makes me feel really conflicted--after reading all of your recs, I'm torn between rewatching things like My Girl and City Hall, or trying out Worlds Within (granted, I believe I watched the first 30 minutes of it or so a couple months ago, but it never really grabbed me. Perhaps I should give it another shot?). But exams and projects and whatnot means that I have to put everything on hold (along with IRIS) for a couple weeks. AGH!!!! MUST SALVAGE DYING WORK ETHIC!!!

Btw, what Bollywood films (preferably available streaming) would you recommend to someone who has never watched anything Bollywood? :D

Worlds Within first ep isn't really that great - I found I spent most of it going 'who is this what is going on whaaaa?' It's fun for me on rewatches because I know all these people by then but as a start it's not the best. I rec giving it through ep 4 and if it doesn't grab you by then, then it's just not your thing.

Bolly films I rec: Veer-Zaara, Parineeta, Eklavya, Kabhi Khushi Kabie Gham, Fanaa, Asoka, Chak de India. I don't really know of any Bolly streaming sites (South Indian movies you can find on youtube but not Bolly ones)

What South Indian films then? Bollywood seems to be more my thing, since I love musicals, but I'm pretty interested in trying anything from that region. I just don't know where to begin.

Thanks for the recs!

That is so hilarious. It got one step better when she imitated him imitating her :)

They are so ridiculously shippy. I agree, the first few eps are rough going bu after that...

I love City Hall. I thought I'd hate it and waited for the longest time to start watching (I find politics so boring!) but after the first few slow episodes, I was so hooked. After epsiode 9, I never looked back.

If you haven't watched it- give it a try, because:

The chemistry between Cha Seung Won and Kim Sun Ah is second to none!
Forget the politics backdrop - this is a LOVE story!

Cha Seung Won and Kim Sun Ah as Jo Gook and Shin Mirae are so totally believable, I am believing they are two real people who live in Inju City!

It grabbed my heart and kept it. It's a drama I'll watch over and over, I'm sure.

It is grown up love, the real stuff, not teenagers' sweet first love. And it is not sappy - it feels so real.

Oh and the montage at the end of episode 16 - love that song!

I thought it was going to be a dead bore too - I mean a drama about city politics? Triple yawn.

But then it turned out so good. You are right - the chemistry was absolutely ridiculous.

Oy, when did you began watching City Hall?? I've heard good things about it so it's on The List. Can be a while before I get to it tough, I'm trying to juggle too many dramas as it is. All these ongoing ones plus I've finally started with Capital Scandal.

I must be one of the few people who isn't enarmoured with Shining Inheritance. I'm stuck somewhere around ep 13 and don't seem to find any enthusiasm to finish it. I just can't feel any connection to the characters, they all bore me. Sigh. I may end up watching the last few episodes to find out how it ends and then move on to Last Scandal. I'm pretty sure it'll be more my cup of tea.

I started i a long time ago actually (see tag) but I took a huge break (not sure why, I loved it). So good.

Last Scandal = Love.

I actually got this, Brilliant Legacy and another kdrama on dvd today. I'm glad to see KSA's character gets more serious and less goofy later on. I'm only on episode two and some of her antics, while hilarious, have me cringing with embarrassment.
