I am really grumpy today, hence the poll. I didn't include any dramas on the overrated list that I genuinely like because I am gutless that way and don't want to see them "mistreated" - I am fully aware there are others that could/should be on the list.

Huh.

I thought Rich bollying jerk who reforms for a girl (yeah, like that is going to stick) would top the list but turns out that Is 30 but acts 3 and In love with another woman for most of drama despite heroine being awesome and other woman a unreciprocating witch annoy me more.

I can't think of a hero I hated the most right now. I'm sure there are some, I just can't think of them right now. I really hate the childish ones because it's usually paired up against a competent female who falls for them and you're left going, "WHY are you falling for THAT childish moron??" and makes you lose confidence in competent female. I'm impatient. I don't have time for that shit.

I love stories about people who reform but it has to be an innate reformation/gorwing up not something external for someone else. (E.g. in Brilliant Legacy, Hwan was forced to grow up and become a good person and only after becoming a good person did he fall for Eun Sung, really - being a decent human being allowed him to be the type of person who is capable of loving).

Childish guy doesn't drive me as crazy as dishrag girl - I am OK with a kickass girl with an awful taste in men but when the girl is also spineless? Ugh.

I said cheater because I can't even think of Sun Hee's husband from Last Scandal without wanting to set things on fire.

I can forgive pretty much anything (as long as the plot involves working out issues and becoming a better person) except cheating.

I love your polls like this; they tell me which dramas to stay far away from. :-D

I love your Snow Queen icon! So gorgeous!

I can deal with cheating in certain very rigid contexts (e.g. in a period drama where marriage is arranged and there is no possibility of divorce and no choice of spouse) but outside of that I am less forgiving.

For me it really was a tossup between BOF and Kim Sam Soon. I did not watch MIKSS when it aired, bought the DVDs a year ago and only watched it a couple of months ago. The drama was probably really fresh and different back in 2006, not now. It was so draggy and the music sucked - I FF so many scenes. And it really was before Hyun Bin became the prettiest man on the planet, so yeah, that's my choice.

As for Hero type, can Kim Sun Ah be included here? When she acts all "cute" in City Hall, I wanted to tear my hair out! (Option Is 30 but acts 3).

I really don't like MNIKSS - I found the heroine really irritating (so lacking in self-esteem) and it's the only drama in which Hyun Bin did not win me over.

I like City Hall though

I love City Hall! LOL. The chemistry between the leads is astounding! I just could have done without her acting like a 3 year old.

City Hall *goes into fangirl mode* I never expected to like it or even check it out (smalltown politics *yawn*) and I did so almost by accident. Not to mention after KSS I was pretty predisposed not to like Sunah. But I fell so hard for that drama. So very hard. I agree though, when she was cutesy in the early eps it was grating, but she got rid of it pretty soon and then - mad mad love.

It's on my Top 3 list of the best kdramas I have seen. As you, I did not really feel like watching, but after Samsooki started his recaps and promised it would get better after the first few episodes, I went for it. I think I marathoned the last 10 episodes in 2 days. Totally addicted! EPIC!

I started because I saw that the soompi thread was over 200 pages and I was curious. The first few eps were meh but after this? OBSESSION OBSESSION OBSESSION.

I haven't finished it yet though (though am super spoiled) due to hoarding. I don't want it to end.

So kind and saintly you want to stab him in the face - there's being nice and then there's being a gutless pushover
I can't stand this type in both male and female characters. They're "nice" to the point of being stupid and it just drives me nuts. And their one character flaw is being too nice but usually that's not even seen as a flaw.

And 30 but acts 3 basically describes the two main characters of Kim Sam Soon. The popularity of the drama and its characters are mind-boggling.

Yeah, when they stand there and just take the abuse - argh, you have a spine, use it!

You have no idea how happy it makes me to read that. Sometimes I feel so alone in my hatred for that drama. Hyun Bin has since went on to become one of my ultimate favorites and I got to love Kim Sunah in City Hall but KSS was a total wasteland.

I know. Everyone LOVES that drama and I just don't get it. I'm so glad Hyun Bin has picked much better projects since KSS because now I can actually watch his dramas without wanting to stab him. And I'm going to attempt to watch City Hall. I just wish I could forget I ever had the displeasure of sitting through KSS.

I actually think the kind & saintly guy is refreshing because I get so tired of the leads always bickering in the first few episodes. I kinda want someone nice to win once in awhile. I also think average guys would be nice because I dunno, it gives the drama realism to me (but I can't remember a drama with an average guy, except for I'm Sam).

But I wonder what dramas have the spineless mommy's boy. I see kind of see it in BOF (and definitely in Meteor Shower, but I dunno if you watched that).

Average guy - That Fool fits too. I don't mean office worker (I love some of those, I just mean supposed to be average in reality a shlub).

Kind is good (I love Dong Chan in my girl) but when they take it from everyone? Ugh.

Spineless Mommy's Boy - hmmm, in addition to BOF, let me think...

Ooh the hero poll is interesting. Honestly I am pretty easy going about how the hero is but there are a couple of things I CANT STAND ever. I hate bullies or psychotic assholes, it's one thing if the hero is in general just a prickly misanthropic person. I can deal with that but going around abusing people cause you had a hard life is bullshit. and Sadly theres alot of men in the real world like this. Saintly bothers me cause it's unrealistic since in real life that kind of guy doesnt exist, if he seems that nice chances are it's a farce. But otherwise I wouldnt care, or I'd pity him cause people are just gonna take advantage of him always. Cheater is understandable if not acceptable in certain cases so I didnt check it. I haaate immature adult men. It's one thing if he's a kid or in his early twenties, but by 30 you should be able to act like you got some damn sense. I cant stand schlubs either, I dont mind them in a general sense but I am so tired of watching american shows or films where the schlub is some kind of glorfied hero and gorgeous women fall for him even though he's mostly useless (in some rare cases the schlub is actually sweet and dependable but he still should not end up with ridiculously gorgeous women, MAKES NO SENSE) that said do kdramas have schlubby dweeby heroes? I am genuinely curious. I dont think I've ever heard of one that does! lol

Here of That Fool (Accidental Couple) otherwise known as "no thanks please ugh"

Thankfully they are pretty rare in dramas.

I haaate immature adult men. It's one thing if he's a kid or in his early twenties, but by 30 you should be able to act like you got some damn sense.

I agree. Same goes for heroines. if you are immature at 17, that's fine. When you are 30+ behave like a grown-up, please.

Cheater actually doesn't bother me. Well, it depends. A horrible manipulative jerk taking advantage of a trusting woman? To the stake with him! But I can't possibly blame the heroine of Bittersweet Life who is married to a cheating, abusive spouse or the hero of City Hall who is engaged in an ice-cold on both sides engagement of political convenience and whose fiancee couldn't care less what he does and 'the other woman' knows that he is engaged, he's not playing mind games (of course, in the latter drama, he does break it off with fiancee eventually but it's not an instant "I like this other person so next second I'll dump fiancee" thing). Or in the period dramas, where marriage is all political and you don't get a choice and divorce is impossible. I am not going to blame Muhyul from Kingdom of the Winds for being forced to marry a useful princess as opposed to the woman he's loved for years and then continues to love after.

I only dislike heroes who are boring, and if they are boring, I stop watching ;-)

but, I have to admit, I kept watching HanaKimi for Toma and Code Blue for the overall lulz. And the YamaPi.

what are examples of Cheaters? Do they cheat on their OTP... or their OTP is like the other woman or something? I just cannot think of instances where there were cheaters... Fated to Love You? Is that it?

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Kinda both. Cheating doesn't bother me in dramas actually, the way they usually do it.

Say You Love Me - hero of the drama (who is a naive unworldly type brought up by monks) is sort of seduced/coerced into cheating on his girlfriend by evil evil secondary girl - he feels awful the morning after and the rest of the drama about whether he can win heroine back.

The Kingdom of the Winds - Muhyul (hero of the drama) is forced to marry neighboring princess for political reasons and not his OTP Yeon. Guess where he spends the wedding night instead? (Actually, I think until he is made to believe Yeon is dead, he is only faithful to Yeon).

Princess Ja Myung Go - Prince Hodong (hero of the drama) loves Ja Myung but in order to gain access to the kingdom of Nakrang goes about seducing her sister La Hee.

City Hall - Hero is in an arranged political-expediency engagment but falls for heroine (who knows of his engaged status). Of course he eventually breaks off the engagement but not before they share many romantic moments while he's engaged.

Bittersweet Life - reversed genders. heroine finds out husband cheated on her, has affair with Lee Dong Wook (yum).

They obviously go all gradations of the spectrum, from outright no-bones about it cheating (Say You Love Me) to something much more murky (City Hall is emotional infidelity at best and you can't even classify it as that as there is no emotion by either side in the engagement).

I love all the above heroes btw.
