I read spoilers for ep 16 of IRIS and apparently there is reunion, explanations, and hugging between Seung Hee and Hyun Joon. OMGOMGOMGOMGYES.

I have also been catching up on subbed versions of eps thanks to the amazing wiredbox subber who is up through ep 14. So far I am mostly done with ep 11 and oh gosh, how did I love that scene with Sawoo on the phone! LOVELOVELOVE. I really want to know what is going on with him - what pushed him into all of this. Also - Hyun Joon short-circuiting after seeing Seung Hee and just wanting to go to her (and Sunhwa having to drag him away at gunpoint) and then sitting there like a zombie? OMG.

So this post won't be totally bare, have some yummy pics of Oh Ji Ho in Slave Hunters.

Last but not least: I went into the Song Il Gook soompi thread just to see if they had anything about his upcoming projects and ugh - the fangirls discussing when he should knock up his wife are really really creepy. WTF!

YES! *pumps fist* Been dying to hear your reaction, and hallelujah, we agree! :) Loved the segue from HyunJoon's own turmoil & cherished memories (not just of SeungHee but the three of them), loved the emphasis on their shared love for SeungHee, loved (w/o sounding too trite hopefully) the evil v good warring in SaWoo's flashbacks (ie. Baek San's voice needling him like the serpent v SeungHee's bottomless grief)... all of that built up beautifully to SaWoo's emotions coming to the fore, and JJH played it pitch perfect. (Though I'd have kept the verbatim translation of his last line--'Why did you choose me and push me to the edge of the precipice?'--because it comes up again in this week's eps.)

Of course, they then had to send me (and most viewers) reeling with 'SaWoo is IRIS!' at the end but I'm feeling a bit more optimistic this week (based on yesterday's & today's eps) they know where they're going with the character. It's still a high-wire act, but it's definitely getting interesting. And you know, that whole 'oh I wish SaWoo were loved (in the drama)' comment the other day? Well, after ep. 15, I take it back.

I was pretty impressed the PTB decided to (and were able to) revisit this week the relationships (not just SH & HJ) & past eps. on the eve of the terror attack but they always seem to be a few steps ahead of us. If we're lucky, the best has yet to come (with 2 weeks to go).

I would go as far as to say Sawoo on the phone was my favorite scene in that episode. Mainly because I may have all sort of theories as to why he is the way he is but I want PTB to give me those - it's not as if Sawoo was portrayed as always a bad seed, or a killer-for-hire from the start, a la Vic. He was a good guy and I want to see those traces of goodness in him - it can't be easy to give up your best friend and your own best nature.

I actually agreed with both Baeksan and Sawoo in that conversation - it's true Baeksan pushed Sawoo to the edge (and I do wonder why he picked Sawoo in particular - or is it that he happened to be in the right place at the right time?) and Sawoo would have lived an exemplary life if not placed into such a situation, but Baeksan does have a point - he may have pushed but the final choice was Sawoo's. People always have choices, even if it's only the best of two really awful ones. Sawoo picked the one he thought was best (for whatever reason) and is now stuck.

I love the way this drama manages to have an action-filled, twisty story but have enough of relationship development that people never feel secondary to plot twists.

I agree. Sa Woo can cry and drink all he wants, but no one put a gun to his head and forced him to betray his best friend. If Hyun Joon is to be held accountable for his own descent as a monster, so should Sa Woo.

Exactly. To me that is the crucial difference between the two men - Hyun Joon is willing to take responsibility for his actions and acknowledge his culpability, even as he blames others (rightly) for starting him on that road. And after all, he had a lot less choice than Sawoo about what he did.

While Sawoo seemingly fails to understand that he is not blameless - he is not a poor pathetic victim of Baeksan's scheming innocent of blame. He chose to hunt down his best friend, to woo said friend's girlfriend once the guy was believed dead, to join with Baeksan in nefarious schemes, to indermine the ostensible mission of NSS. Isn't the saying 'you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink?' That definitely applies here - Sawoo might have been heavily nudged but he took the final plunge himself, ultimately.

I do love that the drama seems to refrain from black-and-white stuff - Hyun Joon is immensely sympathetic but he is deeply tarnished at best, and Sawoo might be unforgivable but he is not a gleeful villain.

No way can I comment on this w/o spoiling you for eps. 15 & 16 :) so let's hope the subs come out very, very soon.

Spoiled myself shamelessly on purpose until now, but I'm beginning to think I should muster the willpower for at least the last 4 eps.

All the spoilers & previews coming out of Chuno look incredibly tempting, but I'll probably take a pass & wait till it's over (and I have more time on hand) to catch up. I need a break after IRIS.

Chuno starts a couple of weeks after IRIS ends so there's a break in there already :)

Seriously though - I find dramas a good way to unwind from real-life stuff and airing dramas the best for that because they enable me to pace myself, so I love that there will be something to sustain me after IRIS.

I just watched ep 15 and I guess we'll finally find out what drives Sa Woo. That's what it sounded like anyway. Have to wait for the subs to get it confirmed though as that conversation was way over my Korean abilities. Plot really thickens and some people meet again. ;)

So, the big showdown will be in 16 I presume.... no time for that right now alas. I didn't peek at any of the spoilers. Yay me! *g*

I am so impressed by spoiler-avoiding willpower. I am avoiding spoilers for Will...Christmas but to do it for IRIS is above my power.

*searches bookmarks* Do you remember that site we got B&W from? Not any of the usual stops, but somewhere that streamed and offered MU links at the same time, I think.
