Seriously. Am incoherent.
It looks like a movie!
And we finally get to see Lee Da Hae (only my favorite kdrama actress ever :P)
Oh God.
The one thing I love more than Aristocrat Lady/Slave OTP is Aristocrat Lady who used to be a Slave/Nobleman who is now a slave (or alternatively, little better than...)
GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH

Date: 2009-12-02 10:52 pm (UTC)seriously though, i need to know OTP pairings in this as well. cos i cannot stand muddled pairings! muddles otp pairings with death all round would be my worst nightmare!

Date: 2009-12-02 11:05 pm (UTC)I think it's going to be a pairings progression.
Basically, I think it goes like this:
Jang Hyuk and Lee Da Hae are the initial OTP but it's not exactly one with happy prospects because she is a slave and he's the master's son. (At some point she also gets dragged off by rampaging troups despite his efforts to protect her, so I am betting even more "fun" things happen). In any event, love's young bloom comes to an abrupt end when his family decides the hussy must be punished for hooking up above her station - they whip her and are going to sell her. Her older brother (also a slave) ain't pleased with it, so he sets the aristo house on fire (YES! Up with the people!), takes Lee Da Hae and runs away with her. Meanwhile the house burns down to the ground, all of Jang Hyuk's family dies in the blaze (good riddance, IMO) and he's basically family-less and penniless so he takes up slave-hunting as a means of making $$$ (and because he now has issues with slaves :P)
He's still, however, totally fixated on and in love with LDH and is searching for her (in all fairness, if you were a straight guy and had LDH for your own to lose her, I can see you going a bit nuts :P)
Meanwhile, a few years pass and LDH (who is now passing for upper class) is running away from an arranged marriage and bumps into Oh Ji Ho, who was once a General but got framed for a crime and was made into a slave but is now on the run to stop a nasty political conspiracy. They travel together and begin to fall for each other.
So I think OJH/LDH are the final OTP but I am sure they are all doomed.

Date: 2009-12-03 02:55 pm (UTC)Or do you mean the other one (with the kissy face?) That's Oh Ji Ho - I don't like him as much as Jang Hyuk but he's still pretty awesome.

Date: 2009-12-03 06:09 pm (UTC)He's in one of my all-time fave kdramas, Thank You, where he plays this asshole surgeon with issues whose girlfriend dies and who meets this single mother on a remote-ish rural island (she is under a double stigma, as both an unwed mother and a woman whose child has HIV (from a screwed up transfusion)). It's so very awesome - I started out wanting to smack him and ended up with having him as my drama boyfriend. Post he holds to this day. It has happy endings for everyone and everything! SO GOOD.
He was also in Robbers as this gigolo conman who swindles his marks out of $$$ and eventually sets his eyes on a widow (played by Lee Da Hae) as his next mark but of course his being kdrama, love and loads of manpain happen :P

Date: 2009-12-03 09:42 pm (UTC)or imperialism.I want to ask if these dramas have a sense of humor in them, cause if so I am definitely putting them on my growing kdrama list. My only issue with kdramas in the past has been (aside from the eps running a little long for me) is the utter dead seriousness found in some of them, to the point that it is tiring and draining to watch them. I dont mind serious at all but there is serious and then there is DEAD serious. A little levity can go a long way in enhancing my drama experience is all I'm sayin. Coffee prince was great for me cause it had angst AND humor and a kickass heroine and lots of hot dudes. so far it's my fave kdrama but I've only ever seen 3 all the way through lol. the other two being Capital scandal and Goong.

Date: 2009-12-03 09:56 pm (UTC)As to humor, they both have funny moments (and all the characters get funny on occasion) but they do have oodles of angst (more in Robbers than in TY though the former is also funnier, if it makes sense - the second half of Robbers though descends into major angst for a bit).
I did really detailed recaps of Thank You, btwm if you check out the thank you tag, in case you want to see if it's something for you, btw.

Date: 2009-12-04 12:59 am (UTC)Ok cool, they sound totally watchable then! I will ask though how do they end? I mean tone wise. Sad endings dont rule out me watching just so long as it feels like a logical conclusion to the story rather than melodramatic and emotionally manipulative. I am checking out Damo since you said the ending makes sense and I can buy it considering the setting. (plus the heroine sounds so awesome!)
thanks for the heads up about Thank You recaps, will def check those out :) I love reading drama recaps.
