Brothers Grimm
Aug. 28th, 2005 10:54 pmHusband and I saw Brothers Grimm tonight.
I don't know whether to recommend it or not. We liked it, but it's a really idyosincratic movie, so I have no idea how it will strike others. I liked the feel of a really dark, Gothic fairy tale, the visuals (gorgeous), the rather dark humor, the twisty plot, and whoa...Matt Damon was HOT (not a thought I often have about him). Actually, his character was my favorite, that of someone who doesn't believe in fairy tales as a defense mechanism and under that really cynical exterior cares for his dreamer of a brother. My favorite scene was when the Queen who came back to life turned Will into her next "worshipper." When he is crawling to her on the floor as Jakob is looking on in horror and the Queen says that truth is not like fiction...And then the mirror shatters. I just love the dark fairy tale feel.
They had tralers for The Corpse Bride, Aeon Flux and Walk the Line which looked fantastic and for two movies that looked hideous: some life affirming golfing flick and a Paul Walker diving movie (can the universe stand so much vacuum?)

Date: 2005-08-29 03:34 am (UTC)The movie sounds fascinating - but is it very scary? I'm easily scared. I watched the Thai movie "Shutters", screamed the whole way through with friends and then had nightmares for two weeks. Hell, even "The Others" and the "Sixth Sense" freaked me out :)

Date: 2005-08-29 06:37 am (UTC)I agree regarding Matt Damon. Sometime's he's hot and other times...Meh. I generally lust after Heath, though. :D (Have you ever seen the short-lived series he did called Roar ? Guuuuh. He was gorgeous in that show. Not to mention it was set in ancient Ireland and was a lot of fun.)
Can't wait for the Corpse Bride!!! Hollywood seems to turn out more vacuum than substance these days, but there are still a few to look forward to.

Re: Heath. Didn't find him attractive in this movie as he had theworst facial hair, ever. :)

Date: 2005-08-29 01:48 pm (UTC)And the world doesn't need any more Paul Walker. He's an acting black hole. He just sucks the talent out of everyone around him, generally never to be seen again.

The Paul Walker movie? I am scared. Even the trailer made my head hurt in its sheer absence of anything.
