Monday drama round-up
Oct. 26th, 2009 03:38 pm1. I have been quietly watching Someday and am through episode 6 - it's such a lovely, understated gem. I don't care for Kim Min Joon's secondary-guy shrink a bit though - he seems very controlling - in a benign enough way but it rubs me the wrong way.
2. Ep 4 of Next Stop Happiness is out subbed. Oh my GUH. It's every teen fantasy I ever had. My rational, 31-year-old self knows that the male slut bad boy is just an immature selfish jerk and not a wounded darling who will turn into the man of your dreams under the influence of love and will be willing to protect you from anything, from beatings and an abusive stepfather to a court hearing. Not to mention do it all while looking like Vanness in a suit. But my inner 14-year-old does not care. Muchen and Guanxi are such a total utter OTP - I have no words. The way he was in court? He basically confessed his love to her in front of everyone. EEEEEEEEE. And the way he keeps her spirits up and teases her? GUUUH. But I love that Muchen is quiet but ridiculously strong - things just can't break her. Which is just as well, as the preview for ep 5 promises ridiculous amounts of soul-tearing angst (and a night of passion or two - YESSS). Seriously, this is made by my id.
3. I have watched ep 2 of JIN and it continues to be so very excellent.

I am madly in love with our protagonist (no character type gets me as much as a suffering good guy and Jin is such a heroic person - the way he works through cholera epidemic OMG - I love him for his heroic effort but even more that he hesitated worried about changing the timeline but then decided it did not matter, he had to save people) but I love every other character so much too - from the future leader of rebellion (who steals every scene he is in) to Saki (I continue to love Saki and Jin's dynamic - it's not romantic in the least but her thirst to learn and his admiration for her will are so wonderful) to everyone else.

4. Speaking of gorgeousness and protagonists, a few more stills of Jang Hyuk's slave hunter from Chuno are out. He seems to be under the mistaken impression that, being low class, slave hunters are not allowed shirts with buttons. Poor thing.

Date: 2009-10-27 08:22 pm (UTC)Hero - it stars some favorites and the plot sounds like a good time.
Falling in Love - I don't even know what it is about, but I am watching. Simply because it stars Han Hyo Joo; she is one of my favorites in the 18-25 crowd of Korean actresses.
I'm going to check out some of the Telecinema programs - they star some favorites and some of the best Japanese writers wrote the episodes. I'm also looking forward to
Will It Snow at Christmas? - Go Soo's comeback drama! Written by Lee Kyung Hee who wrote Thank You, Sorry I Love You, and A Love to Kill - Go Soo and Han Ye Seul will suffer all through December and January - and I will be happy.
I might give Invincible Lee Pyung Kang a go simply for several members of the cast and the writer (wrote Cain and Abel). Nam Sang Mi is adorable. I loved her in Bad Family, Time Between Dog and Wolf and even the awkward drama Sweet Spy. Plus, there's Seo Do Young (Spring Waltz) as Secondary Guy. Also in the cast: Lee Philip (Legend, Story of a Man and Park Ki Woong (Story of a Man) play other characters hanging around. Ki Wong gets the secondary romance - he's slightly below average IQ-wise, she'd an older divorced woman.
My one drawback is the Male Lead - Ji Hyun Woo (Over the Rainbow) - whose not very attractive at all (shallow, I know) to me. Besides that, I've seen him in three things: Over the Raibow, My Precious Child, and Me Ri, Dae Gu's Attack and Defense Battle - he didn't really impress me as an actor; his character in two of those things came off as more jerky than the character was most likely meant to be. He was a complete ass in MPC and was annoying in OtR - I was rooting for the secondary guy in both those dramas. I only saw Me Ri. . .'s first three episodes subbed, so goodness knows what happened there.

Date: 2009-10-27 04:16 am (UTC)Yes, OMG, Vanness..in a black suit, and the white shirt and skinny tie! SIGH! I die!!
I watched it with my best friend, and we were just saying how men should only ever wear white shirts...cos come on, even Jay Chou (whom I adore, but I will admit that he really isn't handsome handsome) looks ridiculously good in a white shirt and suit...In The Name of the Father is the BEST music video EVER.
Okay, back to Vanness...
While his acting was kinda weak this episode (I think it's due to the fact that he had to speak many consecutive lines of Chinese during the trial...haha) his confession more than made up for it...
Oh, and before the trial, when Mu Chen says that no matter what happens at the trial, she's happy that he's there for her, and how for he first time, there is someone to protect and look after her......OMG that expression on Vanness' face...
I DIE!!! hahaha
I kinda wish Mu Chen wasn't so self-sacrificing...and so nice...she needs to be abit more flawed...hahaha (altho my friend says that her flaw, just like all the other female leads in TW dramas, is the fact that she's not the prettiest girl, she's just an average girl next door, and is never as gd looking as the male lead)
The preview for the next episode looks amazing! (not to mention, Vanness shld be shirtless all the time. He looks lean and athletic, not as though he spends his time bodybuilding...LOL)
The pacing of this show is so good, if it keeps up, it will be my favourite romantic drama ever (after Hanadan, cos Hanadan is my exception for everything in life)

Date: 2009-10-27 02:41 pm (UTC)Ep 5 looks totally fantastic. Me being me, much as I am excited by the babymaking, I am even more excited by the scene where she has to watch him in excruciating pain and is falling apart because of it.
I think Muchen's flaw is her passivity - I always dig heroines like Shancai more - she really should yell at her awful stepmom etc (btw, stepmom believed her and left but didn't testify or send the pics or anything? FAIL).
He looks lean and athletic, not as though he spends his time bodybuilding.
Yes. This. I find excessive muscles a turn-off.
This is going up there in my fave romances, for sure.
