This little gem is from Lauren Willig's The Masque of the Black Tulip, part of her Carnation series. I have many issues with that series (anachronistic characters, inane plots, heroes and heroines that are not only overly wholesome but were dropped on their heads as babies and bounced repeatedly). I have only liked The Seduction of the Crimson Rose but keep reading them all out of some obscure mashocism.
Anyway, that is one way to describe a sex scene:
Henrietta cried out in surprise as pleasure scintillated through her, like a thousand champagne bubbles glistening by candlelight, oscillating and bursting in a golden glow.
Well then.

Date: 2009-10-01 04:08 pm (UTC)Oh, wait, did my hatred for the few chick lit books I've attempted to read (outside of these, where I want to throw them across the room for aspects of the Eloise parts, which fit the above formula perfectly) emerge?

Date: 2009-10-01 04:34 pm (UTC)I think the first chick lit I tried to read was Austenland because it sounded interesting, and I ended up frothing to LJ about it. I've tried a few others since then, but didn't get very far. (Though, i don't read straight contemporary romances for similar reasons, come to think of it.)
I was interested in the PP books when I heard about them and thought they'd be all about the academic geekery, then lost interest when I heard it wasn't. Then some people on the Regency list, who typically have extremely good taste (and are rather brutal when it comes to anachronisms), basically said "they're very anachronistic and not that incredibly good, but they're fun fluff," and that's pretty much been my opinion of the two that I've read.
