Bollywood Rant
Aug. 24th, 2005 06:29 pmWarning: this started out normal but turned into a rant :)
I have finally gotten my hands on Black, months and months after everyone's raves. I will be watching it this week...yum. I wish I saw it in the theater though.
Also, when are Parineeta, Maine Pyar Kyun Kya? and Virrudh coming out on DVD? It's been ages since Parineeta opened. I am glad it's such a hit but I must own the DVD right now. I need my angsty Shekhar/Lolita fix. I want to rewatch the consummation of marriage scene, and the train song, and Lolita baking a cake in the dark, and Shekhar having a nervous breakdown over and over and over again. I want to watch him realize the truth at the end and stand up to his father. And I want to watch Lolita try to wobble on her high heels, or Rekha's cabaret number. Or Koel do just anything, because I loved Raima Sen. Where is my precioussssssss? I need it. Dammit. I guess I can rewatch Saif's angsty scenes in Hum Tum but there aren't many and it's not the same. Argh.
I also need a silly Salman fix and MPKK would do just nicely. As to Virrudh, I shouldn't complain because I already have a meaty Amitabh movie in my hands (i.e. Black) but I really want to watch it and see John, and my other option for an unseen John is Lakeer and that movie has the square-headed Sunny Deol and hideous Sohail Khan, both of whom annoy the heck out of me.
Also, I want to see Dus, which is already out, because cool action and Abhi and Zayed in leather pants, and Shilpa, and Sunil getting to romance someone, but I don't want to buy it all by itself so I have to wait for the other ones. Damn.
And there are no Bolly movies I want to see until Salaam Namaste, and that's not till the second week of September. Also, I want to know when Yagna is hitting the theaters, because I need to see another Saif/Vidya movie after Parineeta pretty much right away, because they are so a new favorite movie pairing.
Also, Kajol and Aamir aren't starting Fanaa until November. Before that, Aamir will appear in Rang De Basanti which sounds patriotic and really dull. Good for you, like spinach.
There won't be any more Shahrukh movies this year, and the way his schedule goes, with Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna seemingly to be the first before he can start on the others, there probably won't be any in the first half of 2006 either. Which annoys me. Not that Don which is an actiony remake or Happy New Year will necessarily rock my world either, since I like him better as intense.
Salman's and Shilpa's flick about marriage with a really long name keeps getting delayed. I have my doubts about it ever being released. And I really hope that this time the November date for Humko Tumse Pyar Hai is set (thank you, SRK!), but I am still cranky about it as the flick should have released a year ago.
Water, a movie I've been dying to see might get held up and not premiere at the Toronto festival because of some stupid, useless lawsuit in India. That merits another primal scream.
Bhansali is being quiet about his next film, if anything, but it's going to be a cold day in hell before it will be Bajirao Mastani which he announced years ago, which I was dying for, and which then fell apart. Come on, star-crossed lovers one of whom is a warrior ruler, and who are historical? Salman swinging a sword? Would have been good.
Also, why does Esha Deol keep getting roles? I have to look at her annoying face and lack of talent regularly now. She is starring with people like Abhi now, so I am forced to watch her. Same goes for Uday. Next they will be trying to sell Tusshar, Shahid and Aftab as the "it" boys I'll have to watch.
Ram Gopal Varma lost the little bit of his brain he had left and is remaking Sholay, the ultimate Bollywood classic. Why not, earlier he bastardized Godfather. Why does he have a reputation for artistry and unusualness? Making gangster-flavored remakes has less originality than dancing in Switzerland. I have yet to see one of his movies since Rangeela which came out in 1995, which appealed to me in the least, despite his "I am the cinema savior" attitude.
Hrithik is annoying me too, lately. His two next movies are Dhoom 2 where he plays the villain, and where I'd be forced to look at Uday Chopra's blank stare and ugly face in order to enjoy Hrithik and an action sequel to Koi Mil Gaya by his daddy, entitled Krrish. Which just sounds dull and annoying and he should really make more movies. Jodha-Akbar which is the first of his movies that interests me is unlikely to be out before 2007. And even there, the idiot boy will have a mustache. Are they trying to uglify him? 'Cause it's working.
Also, what is Abhi up to? The only upcoming of his I know of is Dhoom 2 (blech, yuck!) and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna which is unlikely to come out before the end of next year.
whine, whine, whine... I am Bolly-cranky now.

Date: 2005-08-24 11:03 pm (UTC)You mean Shaadi Karke Phaas Gaya Yaar? I love that name! :)

Abhi's doing (apparently) the Hindi remake of Autograph and that movie with Priyanka...uhh, just a sec....it's called...Bluff Master, that's the one! I doubt he'll stop short doing movies at the peak of his career.

Date: 2005-08-24 11:17 pm (UTC)That mature romance movie with Dimple and Rishi should be out soon. Who knows it might be sweet and/or funny.
And if you are really desperate, you can always watch No Entry and try to block out everybody other than Salman.

Date: 2005-08-24 11:22 pm (UTC)See, the No Entry thing is confusing. I adore Salman-ogling, but he is no SRK who I will find the saving grace of any movie. When he plays a hyperactive twerp in a bad movie, Salman is like nails on chalkboard (see Hello Brother or Chal mere bhai for proof). The guy can do superb intense, freaked out, or angry. So I perfer him when he does that.
Plus, that flick has Anil (my eyes!), Fardeen (my eyes!) and someone else who must be truly awful as I blocked him out. So probably not :)

Date: 2005-08-24 11:24 pm (UTC)I don't really know too much about No Entry yet, but at least for the preview I saw, Salman looked so nice and suave. Guess I'll just wait for the first reviews to come in.

Date: 2005-08-24 11:25 pm (UTC)I live in daily dread of the day she stars in a movie with Shahrukh.

Date: 2005-08-24 11:14 pm (UTC)So I can't even advise you on some older/lesser known movies because you most likely have seen them long before me.
no subject
Date: 2005-08-24 11:16 pm (UTC)No, really I would like some advice. I think I just started out cranky because of Parineeta-withdrawal and it went downhill from there :)

Date: 2005-08-24 11:19 pm (UTC)Or maybe the original Devdas would be interesting just for reference.
Maybe YOU should instead do a review list of older BW movies (from Mili downwards) so I will know which ones are worth it.

Date: 2005-08-24 11:24 pm (UTC)I am going to do a detailed list of older movies I like. I am list obsessive.
But here's my oldie Top 10 for now (no order)
1 Mili
2 Sholay
3 Zanjeer
4 Pakeezah
5 Pyassa
6 Junglee
7 Amar Akbar Anthony
8 Awaara
9 Shri 420
10 Mughal E Azam (too opulent not to be on the list).

Date: 2005-08-25 04:49 am (UTC)You missed one - MARIGOLD. Waiting for that to come out more than Maine Pyar Kyun Kya for my Salman fix. After having seen Tere Naam and Lucky I really don't want to see Salman as the twerky duuuude again.
And I'm really fed up witht he Kunal Kohli movie, Kajol would have done much better to launch her comeback with SRK and Karan Johar. *sniffle*

Date: 2005-08-25 06:59 am (UTC)Or really anything about Bollywood.
Help would be loved. :)

Date: 2005-08-25 03:23 pm (UTC)I did a really long rec post a few months back, but I can't find it.
It depends on what kind of movie you like.
I think I will redo it later today :)

Date: 2005-08-25 03:33 pm (UTC)Don't even get me started on the Sholay remake, oh my. I really liked Sarkar, though. But Sholay, NO, leave it alone.
Hrithik only has so many years left of his youth - they really need to stop uglifying him for sake of creativity. Rawr.
Water will premiere, it HAS to. I will DIE if it doesn't! At least HTPH is, though, right? Meh.
Oh, and for what it's worth, I hated Lakeer and it's not worth the rent. John isn't even in it a whole lot. I'm anxiously waiting for Viruddh to release on DVD too so I can get some John fix.
I have ten thousand more comments to make on your entry but I'm going to stop now before I look crazy, hahaha.

Date: 2005-08-25 03:37 pm (UTC)Always glad to hear of another Abhi movie. There can't be too many.
Sholay remake just makes me boil. Did you hear about Mughal E Azam remake btw? Set in modern times and starring Celina Jaitley. This one I will watch out of sheer MST3K value.
On Hrithik: amen. He'll be ugly soon enough, on his own.
I've been dying to see Water. So it better open.
Lakeer is good on fast forward :)

Date: 2005-08-25 03:59 pm (UTC)Aw man, Salaam Namaste is not coming 'til September? Crud. In case you want to spoil the movie for yourself a bit, the new promos for "My Dil Goes Mmmm" are already up on the web. :)

Date: 2005-08-25 04:03 pm (UTC)Salaam Namaste is coming out september 9th.
Btw, hi "Anonymous!" :) Assuming you are the same 'anonymous' who replies to my Bolly posts, you might want to get a livejournal. They are addictive fun! :)

Date: 2005-08-25 04:54 pm (UTC)Ah, I wish I had the time to keep a livejournal. Plus, I don't know what I would write about. Although, I would like to have an actual identity instead of being just Anonymous. :)
