I have just dicovered the delicious world of Polish movie adaptations of Henryk Sienkewitz novels! I have already known/posted/owned the Polish versions of Quo Vadis and With Fire and Sword but [livejournal.com profile] miss_magrat's comment indirectly made me go looking for more (she mentioned a Sienkewitz novel "The Deluge" and in addition to developing a mad pash to read it, I went seeing if there was an adaptation of it).

The Deluge (Potop) is another period epic. And someone has made a very pretty shippy MV for it.

This also led me to dicover they made movie versions of Pan Wołodyjowski and Teutonic Knights.

And also the website that sells US-compatible, English-subbed versions of all the above.

I shall emerge.

Maybe.

Sometime. When Smile subs are finally out.

Henryk Sienkewitz is one of my all-time favorite authors so to discover there is a veritable cornucopia of movies based on his books out there is...guuuuuh. (Previously the only one I came across was the stilted, badly adapted 1950s Hollywood version of Quo Vadis).

Ooooh, and another With Fire and Sword MV (I love the song, it's apparently an official one):

But I don't think that even with my new-found love for Eastern European period epics I shall ever check out the new version of Taras Bulba: I hated that book and that character ever since I was ten - boy, did I get in trouble for that opinion in school. The only one I have ever liked in the whole book was Andrii, the "bad" son (or to me, the only human among them). There is a totally loltastic Hollywood adaptation of the novel though, with Yul Brynner as Taras and Tony Curtis as Andrii - luckily they agreed with my opinion and made Andrii the hero but the movie is still utterly silly.

I love Tarass Bulba!

I have this thing about old very colourful epic movies. I probably watched Cleopatra too many times to count for example ^^.

I love Cleopatra - so enjoyable! I own the dvd of it and the documentary on making it is almost as insane.
