I know I have a billion replies to make and promise to get to them but for now, it's time to confess:
I am addicted to Bill/Sookie.

The reason I formulate it like this is because so far, that is THE reason I like TB. Even if I cannot avoid a firm conviction that Sookie is, while sweet and brave, remarkably dim and with a nonexistent take on self-preservation, and is probably the kind of woman who writes letters to serial killers in prison.
I can't help it, you guys! She is so sunny and sweet and optimistically believing in good about everyone. Plus she has that adorable gap between her teeth (shut up!) And he is so old-fashioned (He is so old-fashioned he doesn't know how to truly use conditioner if his hair is any indication) and alpha (whatever - I have very TRADITIONAL preferences in my fictional men) and well-mannered and protective. And he asks for her permission to call on her and they have so much eye-fucking. He is also dark-haired and with a Southern accent. And they have ridiculous killer chemistry.

I fell for them about the moment when she saved his life and then mocked him for his prosaic name unbefitting a vampire. I am a goner.

So cheesy, so good.
So, yeah, I am watching for Bill/Sookie. It does not help that I (unpopular fandom opinion number 3) loathe the repulsive slimebag Jason - I am sure there are more mature amoebas out there. Not to mention that it is his character's fault I am subjected to those hilariously bad sex scenes. Ugh. I don't like Tara (unpopular fandom opinion number 4) because she is a total bitch (her intro scene ruined her to me for a good long while - if some sales person was that rude to me, I would have hauled off and slapped her) but she seems sort of functional so deserves better than Jason - I hope she gets over him.
As to Eric - I will take y'all's word for the fact that he gets awesome and hot in S2 but for now all I can say is his costumer, stylist, and make-up artist all hate him. He looks like a wannabe goth in pancake make-up. Alexander Skarsgaard isn't really my type at all, lookwise,* but objectively speaking, he is a very good-looking man, so I do not see why his assistants had to work so hard to make him look that bad. (The hair!!!)
* Seeing the amount of fangirls he has, he will hardly miss my devotion not being applied to him :)
Will I ever switch ships? Unlikely. Once I get a ship, I glom on like a limpet. I can sometimes lose interest in the ship for whatever reason, but then it usually means I am done with the show too - I sort of find it hard to refocus. But we'll see.
So yeah, Bill/Sookie is SO MY OTP! Eleventy! Clearly, in any show involving two vamps in love with a blonde heroine I will always go for a brunette guy over the blond one :P
I want them to have sex on a table or similar.

So I'll be in my lonely Bill/Sookie corner. At least I know
Here is a deliciously cheesy my for my deliciously cheesy ship:
I am using the only vamp ship icon I have. I need to get me a Bill/Sookie one.

Date: 2009-09-08 04:42 am (UTC)Also, re: Jason, I found him pretty reprehensible through most of S1 and S2, but despite myself, I've found him quite redeemed toward the last half. I know, color me shocked.
I think you're really going to like Jessica's arc in S2.
And re: Bill/Sookie, you have the added pervy RPF bonus of knowing the couple was actually falling in love during the shooting and are, IIRC, engaged now. I'm not into RPF, but I'm a serious sucker for the romanticism of them falling in love on the set.

Date: 2009-09-08 05:29 am (UTC)(heh, if you're ship worried, you can always just watch only season 1 like a mini series and be left with a happy ending)
I kinda think that the "theme" of his story is the whole "person from a few centuries past who is really out of step with modern times still". That in the end that no matter how hard he tries, he still sort of gets lost in the shuffle.

Spoiler for season 2
Date: 2009-09-08 07:27 pm (UTC)And controlling attitude or not, he is right not too rarely (think Jessica visiting her parents...) even if he handles it badly. I still see him as the guy who's stuck in the past and who's just overtaken by modern times and attitudes. With the twist of course being that it's not just the humans who have more modern attitudes, many of the older vamps do as well and that's why they leave him in the dust, no matter how much "good man" he tries to be. He's old fashioned even among vamps.
I was actually pondering at one point I think the Bill/Sookie relationship became unequal. I think it's when the whole "He's the only one whose thoughts I can't hear" seemed to lose importance to the plot. At this point I would say the relationship is unequal because it's pretty obvious that Sookie is more unique to Bill than Bill is unique/irreplacable to her, if that makes any sense.

Date: 2009-09-08 08:51 pm (UTC)With Jessica visiting her parents, he was totally right not to want to let her go but I can't help but sympathize more with Sookie, who was trying to understand how Jessica felt, than with Bill, who seems completely uninterested in her. He's trying to be the old-fashioned "Father Knows Best" Dad and it really doesn't play well... so, yes, I agree about the old-fashioned thing! Hee!
(I'm so hooked on True Blood!)

Date: 2009-09-08 11:35 am (UTC)Tara is pretty unpopular - I actually liked her in S1 but not so much in S2. Jason and Eric really start to shine in S2. I didn't care one way or the other about them in S1.
And Bill/Sookie are really cute in Season 1. I love that he respects her grandma and goes to her Civil War meeting!! CUTE!

Date: 2009-09-08 02:49 pm (UTC)Angel v. Spike mark 2? At least this fandom is unlikely to have as viscious shipper wars as Buffy had. *shudder*
sorry to pop in!

Date: 2009-09-08 12:56 pm (UTC)I am TOORRRNNNN. Well, not really but I haven't watched Season 2 yet so I kind of am. Because I liked Bill/Sookie during the first half of season 1 (before I read the books) then HATED him during the second half of season 1 (after I read the books) and then kind of liked him again at the season finale. So. . .I am torn between Book!Bill and Show!Bill. I try to put my prejudice against him out of mind when I watch the show. . .but I can't. OH WELL, I'll be watching Season 2 soon so maybe my opinion will change definitively.

Date: 2009-09-08 06:12 pm (UTC)if you think Sookie is dim-witted with latent suicidal tendences(which I totally agree with btw) just wait until you get later in the season...that's partly why I stopped watching, actually. Sookie kept throwing herself recklessly into danger and Bill kept letting her/actively assisting her and I got fed up.

Date: 2009-09-08 07:37 pm (UTC)Exactly. But seriously, how awesome was it when he is trying to be all snarly and menacing and deadly and she is just mocking him because he is named Bill and he is so puzzled, poor dear. Awwwwww.

I don't mind dim heroines - that is why dramas and me get along so well :) But seriously, if she wasn't dimwitted, there'd be no story as any sane person would stay far away from any vamp no matter what.

Date: 2009-09-08 07:47 pm (UTC)I like Sookie so much (she's adorable!) that I can't seriously ship her with anyone, but rather go with the maxim that she shall have whomever she wants. For the time being, it seems to be Bill, so Bill it is.
Aw, Jason. I too couldn't stand him at first, but I warmed up to in season 2. He can be interesting when he's not exposing his pale ass and boinking everything that breathes.

Date: 2009-09-09 12:26 am (UTC)Not really. Most people didnt like Jason from the get go. For alot of the reasons you've stated, he's dumb, immature, a jerk, a whore. I was so w/e about him until the second half of S2 and now I adore him. He redeems himself in a big way in S2 and develops alot as a character plus so many hilarious lines come from him. :)
I don't like Tara (unpopular fandom opinion number 4) because she is a total bitch
Sadly not that unpopular. I say sadly cause I do like her (though at first she annoyed me)but most people are either indifferent to Tara or dont like her very much or at least of those I see on ontd_trubld and Lj in general.
So far I'd say your only truly unpopular opinion is shipping bill/sookie ;) You know I dont mind Tv!bill he brings the lulz but I cant stand the way he talks sometimes or rather I should say the way stephan moyer attempts to imitate a southern accent. Man why is it so hard to find good southern accents on tv? (I will say one thing about the actor who plays Jason. His southern accent is damn convincing. I'd have never guessed he was really australian)
