I have finally caved in and decided to watch Whedon's Angel - yes, I am that under the rock person who has never watched the show except for "I will remember you", which remains one of my favorite shippy things in the Universe - uberromantic and ubertragic.

I was a ridiculously hardcore Buffy/Angel shipper and the thought of watching a show about Angel without Buffy did not appeal.

But ehhh, enough years passed that I have mellowed out, and I can certainly pretend they hooked up again later.

So - the Pilot. Very entertaining - in part because it was fun to see the now dated clothes and hairstyles. Angel is his own mopey hot self (dude is gorgeous but being around him for more than 10 minutes would be darn depressing. Cheer up - cracking a grin won't bring your curse back, emo hunk!) But people with nameless crimes upon their infirmly-attached souls have got to be careful, I suppose. So I approve of him mightily (he is the only modern vamp I don't have moral issues with).

Cordelia remains annoying (the older I get, the less patient I get with her fictional type) but is entertaining anyway.

Plus, the sorta-obvious bad guy of the week thing is fun. I also liked that he didn't get to save the blonde - avenge, yes, save no.

Oh, and my shipper heart liked the end.

All in all, will be continuing.

(Am not commenting on Doyle as he won't be sticking around long enough for it to matter.)

Note to self: do not move to California, you will be eaten.

This show gets so much better as the seasons go on, so if you like the pilot, you are in for a real treat. Poor Doyle matters. :(

IMO; ATS >>>> BTVS.

It was actually Cordelia (and, to a lesser degree, Fred and Gunn) in the last arc of season 2 that got me past shunning all things vampire related enough to check out Buffy and Angel. It helped that the arc had virtually nothing to do with vampires, and the little that did was "Vampires are monstrous!"

It's the Darla arc, right?

Pylea arc. Darla arc is mid-season 2, and then she returns early season 3.

Ahh, I Will Remember You.

I was never really an Angel/Buffy shipper. I mildly shipped them, Seasons 1-3. But that episode will always bring a tear to my eyes, especially at the end when she's clutching him and crying, "There's not enough time, I won't forget, I won't!".

*sob*

I never got into Angel past the 1st season. I have a short attention span which is why I enjoy baddie of the week. After Cordelia got pregnant, 'Previously On Angel' voiceovers turned into a 3 minute affair and if you missed an episode, you'd be so lost. So, no more Baddie Of The Week, and instead we got weird convoluted plots.

Actually, I did recently purchase Angel Season 5 ($12.99) just because Spike is in it and apparently there's an episode where Angel is a puppet. So. Fun.

My mind is a-boggle; it would never have occurred to me that you hadn't seen Angel (seeing as I know how much you love Buffy)! I'd like to say you're in for a total treat, but the first half of the first season is... a bit uneven, because they hadn't quite figured out where the meat of the story lay, IMO. But I think the show's always entertaining and at least mildly intriguing as a general rule (that makes it sound like I'm damning it with faint praise, but I actually preferred Angel to the Buffy episodes that were airing at the same time.) I'll be very interested to hear how you get on with it!

I like "Angel" more than "Buffy" (I am stuck on the 4th season of Buffy and Buffy herself annoys me to no end in this season, but I hope I'll continue watching one day). This to say, the best seasons for me were 2-5. I am not sure how it will go for you if you are a big fan of Angel/Buffy ..

Angel is a much, much darker show than Buffy, which makes sense because let's be honest, if anyone has some amends to make, it's Angel.

I actually like in "City Of" that Angel can't save the girl. The episode spends all that time building up with him (and the audience) starting to connect with Tina that when she dies you sort of feel the same disappointment Angel does. Angel's also not there to snark and banter. You make him mad, he shoves you out a window. Yes, he's a bleeding heart in some ways, but in others he just follows the quickest, most ruthless route to finish the job.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised he failed to save her.

Ooh I like Angel alot! It does get better as you go, although a think second to the last season was kind of lame. Then it gets really good again. 8D

watch out for the ep where Angel becomes human for one day.
even i liked both Angel and Buffy and watched every single ep of both, but i have to stay, they both got annoying in last seriers.
and David Boreanaz got chubby too. heheheh loved him more in Buffy

David Boreanaz(Angel) is one of my favorite TV men of all time. mmmm. WATCH BONES. At first he doesn't seem as hot as in Buffy/Angel but he grows on you..

Bones wasn't my thing but he is really ridiculously hot.

I really like both Buffy and Angel. Angel is darker than Buffy and pretty uneven especially in the first season, though I would have liked to have seen more Doyle.

Wesley's character arc is one of the best I've ever seen!!! Cordelia does also a lot of growing up during the series, though I quite disliked the pregnancy arc. Her appearance on Season 5 was brilliant, though.

Ah, but that makes it all the better when he full-out grins. He's adorable.

If you're a hard core shipper I advise skipping most of season 3 because it stinks and that is where most of the Cordy/Angel stuff happens.

I meant to add, but once Angel's SORASed (soap opera rapid aging syndrome) comes on, it gets really good again.
