You know what I am talking about - the drama world is full of dream men - rich, good-looking, considerate, likely to carry you in their arms and give you a shirt off their back.
And then there is the other kind.
You know they are the hero of this drama because their name appears first in the credits and they are played by a big name actor. They might even be objectively good-looking.
But despite that pragmatic evidence, you simply cannot believe your eyes and ears - we are supposed to root for THAT? As you watch this good-looking but selfish and cruel moron stumble from crisis to insult and disaster to meanness, you begin to wonder if the director and the writer have lost their minds or if you have fallen into alternate universe. How can someone so awful be the hero - the one who is supposed to get the girl and who we are supposed to cheer for. In real life, we'd be calling the cops if our daughter wanted to date him. Maybe buy a gun.
So yes - who is the worst hero of a drama you have ever come across? Someone you were supposed to root for but who evoked only rage. Someone where you would have preferred the heroine with the secondary guy, discover lesbianism or join a convent, anything to avoid the hero's clutches.
Who evokes rage like that?
And why?
I will post my answer later :)

Date: 2009-08-24 10:27 pm (UTC)Same goes with the main character of Full House. He was adorable but the way he acted with the main girl was just too much for me. Then again, I'm probably the only person to not like Full House :/.

lovehatehave complicated emotions towards Full House. And yes, Young-Jae is the biggest douche ever in many ways, but in others, he is entirely woobie. the entire drama made me want to bash my own face in, but i couldnt stop watching it.no subject

Date: 2009-08-24 10:32 pm (UTC)BOF - Jun Pyo I still can't root for him.
Full House - have re-watched it now after so many recommendations and I still don't think Rain's character is cute but stupid. I could bash him 24/7 and still not be satisfied.
My Girl - Lee Da Hae and Lee Jun ki are my OTP!!! I know you adore the main OTP, but the hero IMHO was so dense and a hypocrite. I still wish to clobber some sense into him.
ISWAK - as cute as I think some of the scenes are, Zhi Shu really gets on my nerves, die already you cold ice-block and never darken your heroines doors again.
The Rose - I'd rather have the incestuous siblings as OTP than that dense idiot (who cannot act) with Ella's character.
Fated to Love You - Don't get me started on the so-called hero. He was a total Ass.

LOL. I cut him some slack because he took in an apparently crazy and homeless lady - I would have called the cops :)

Date: 2009-08-24 10:37 pm (UTC)Toma's character in Akihabara@DEEP. He was a lovable underdog until his backstory was revealed, and then it was like... we're supposed to sympathize with that?
Oh, and the hero of Bicheonmu. I could understand why he snapped (he thought his OTP had betrayed him by marrying and bearing his enemy's children) but still, who goes from "she cheated on me!" to "all right, I'm gonna become a merciless rebel assassin and KILL THEM ALL"? Therapy, dude! Hug it out!

Date: 2009-08-25 06:57 pm (UTC)The one I cannot stand to even look at is the hero of KKK2003 - sure, genius, convince a high school girl, who is your student, she is dying so she can turn for you to solace and you can have sex with her while enjoying her freaked-outedness as a safe outlet for your own illness. God, I hated him so much I haven't been able to watch Fujiki Naohito in anything else since.
Objectively, the worst one is probably in Something Happened in Bali (murder suicide!) but since he is portrayed as screwed up beyond measure, I love him as a character. Plus, the final scene of that drama is one of my faves anywhere.

Date: 2009-08-25 09:45 pm (UTC)Noooo! I think this may be another TY -- one of the dramas where we completely disagree.
In Akihabara@DEEP his girlfriend was gangraped in front of him and he was too scared to do anything. Yet we were supposed to feel bad for him because poor woobie was so traumatized (which included watching the whole thing, then running away when the thugs left, leaving his girlfriend lying alone on the pavement) and his friends even defended him to the rape victim by saying stuff like "he was suffering too, because he couldn't protect you!"
All in all, a major "WHAT?" episode.

Date: 2009-08-24 10:56 pm (UTC)- Jun Pyo in the second half. Ugh, I think I still have whiplash from how fast he went from being this dorky charming idiot to an utter douchebaggy assclown.
- Joe Cheng's character on ISWAK. Though I think I might have hated Ariel Lin's character more.

Date: 2009-08-25 02:54 am (UTC)Sam Soon was awful - immature and totally fine with 'dating' some guy who was cheating on his girlfriend to be with her (even though that is what happened to her herself in the beginning). You go, wonderful person, you! When she told Sam Shik that she wouldn't sleep with him until she lost weight, as opposed to until he broke up with his girlfriend? I was gone. I wanted her in a pit.
As to Sam Shik? Don't even get me started. Hyun Bin is in the running for my favorite kdrama actor, due to Worlds Within, Friend, and Snow Queen, so I just try very very hard to forget he made this drama. UGH.

Date: 2009-08-25 03:17 am (UTC)And the whole cheating thing, I totally agree with you.
But jfc, she said she wouldn't sleep with him until she lost weight? After all the things he said to her? And this is supposed to be a feminist drama? UGH SO MUCH HATE!
I haven't been able to watch anything else with Hyun Bin to this day since that was the first drama of his I ever saw :(

This was the moment I decided I hated her character like ten thousand burning suns. Tbh, I actually hated her more than him - at least he never hid his jerkiness from the start and was way younger than her - but why she, who is supposed to be older and is supposed to be this feminist strong girl is actually even more immature and useless than him was a total mystery to me.

Date: 2009-08-25 03:27 am (UTC)You're right though. If she was supposed to be so strong and whatnot why was she letting him treat her like crap and then was mooning over him? And the fact that she was completely okay with him cheating on his gf after everything she went through. UGH HATE EM BOTH SFM! Why... how is this drama so popular?!

Date: 2009-08-24 11:02 pm (UTC)Fated to Love You -HATEHATEHATE. It's one thing to think you're the center of the universe and you can go around being mindlessly cruel to all those who care about you. It's another thing to stay that way the whole drama and cause horrible things to happen to those who love you because of your selfishness. I would cheerfully have seen him castrated.

Date: 2009-08-24 11:25 pm (UTC)I really didn't like Oguri Shun's Sano in HanaKimi. The OTP between him and Maki was way too blurgh for me. Also Pi's character in Sore wa Totsuzen. Actually, Pi in a lot of things. Except Stand Up!! which is the one place where i liked him weirdly.

ISWAK. In between HATEHATE and UGHANNOYINGGETOFFMYSCREEN.
Hmmmmm. . .I know there was another one that evoked rage but I can't think of it right now.

Why, Why, Love. The bad boy character just annoys me x____x

There's way more but there's so many I've watched, I have to do a good think. Plus usually I stop watching if they piss me off too much.
Oh, and Amen to the Sam Soon hate. Kim Sam Soon, oh how I hated thee. The hero I disliked but all my hate went to KSS.

Date: 2009-08-25 07:02 pm (UTC)KSS - I will never get why it was such a hit. Agree, I lothed SS even more than I did Hyun Bin's character. I think it's surreal that the three other Hyun Bin dramas I have seen (Friend, WW, and Snow Queen) were beyond amazing and have lower ratings combined than KSS did. Why, Korea, why????
