You know what I am talking about - the drama world is full of dream men - rich, good-looking, considerate, likely to carry you in their arms and give you a shirt off their back.

And then there is the other kind.

You know they are the hero of this drama because their name appears first in the credits and they are played by a big name actor. They might even be objectively good-looking.

But despite that pragmatic evidence, you simply cannot believe your eyes and ears - we are supposed to root for THAT? As you watch this good-looking but selfish and cruel moron stumble from crisis to insult and disaster to meanness, you begin to wonder if the director and the writer have lost their minds or if you have fallen into alternate universe. How can someone so awful be the hero - the one who is supposed to get the girl and who we are supposed to cheer for. In real life, we'd be calling the cops if our daughter wanted to date him. Maybe buy a gun.

So yes - who is the worst hero of a drama you have ever come across? Someone you were supposed to root for but who evoked only rage. Someone where you would have preferred the heroine with the secondary guy, discover lesbianism or join a convent, anything to avoid the hero's clutches.

Who evokes rage like that?

And why?

I will post my answer later :)

The first one that comes to my mind is the hero from Fated to love you. I loved the drama but to be honest the guy was just plain horrible. Arrogance and indecision can be solved but not downright cruelty.

Same goes with the main character of Full House. He was adorable but the way he acted with the main girl was just too much for me. Then again, I'm probably the only person to not like Full House :/.

i totally agree with you about FtLY. I didnt even make it through the full thing, and he was a big part of why.

and i love hate have complicated emotions towards Full House. And yes, Young-Jae is the biggest douche ever in many ways, but in others, he is entirely woobie. the entire drama made me want to bash my own face in, but i couldnt stop watching it.

Full House was the first (& so far only) drama I never ended up finishing as the main character drove me so batty. I really should watch it again & try to be more patient but he was such a brat!

I have heard horrible things about FTLY and am staying far away.

I like Full House but I did want to strangle him from time to time.

My pet peeves concerning heros are:

BOF - Jun Pyo I still can't root for him.
Full House - have re-watched it now after so many recommendations and I still don't think Rain's character is cute but stupid. I could bash him 24/7 and still not be satisfied.
My Girl - Lee Da Hae and Lee Jun ki are my OTP!!! I know you adore the main OTP, but the hero IMHO was so dense and a hypocrite. I still wish to clobber some sense into him.

ISWAK - as cute as I think some of the scenes are, Zhi Shu really gets on my nerves, die already you cold ice-block and never darken your heroines doors again.
The Rose - I'd rather have the incestuous siblings as OTP than that dense idiot (who cannot act) with Ella's character.
Fated to Love You - Don't get me started on the so-called hero. He was a total Ass.

I agree with you about ISWAK. Even through the ending, I still didn't think Zhi Shu loved Xiang Qin. He was better in TKA though because you could see actual feelings.

Ahahaha. I know Jun Pyo was going to be on it. He and the FTLY guy seem to be very popular.

I could bash him 24/7 and still not be satisfied.

LOL. I cut him some slack because he took in an apparently crazy and homeless lady - I would have called the cops :)

The lead of Thank You. :p Sorry.

Toma's character in Akihabara@DEEP. He was a lovable underdog until his backstory was revealed, and then it was like... we're supposed to sympathize with that?

Oh, and the hero of Bicheonmu. I could understand why he snapped (he thought his OTP had betrayed him by marrying and bearing his enemy's children) but still, who goes from "she cheated on me!" to "all right, I'm gonna become a merciless rebel assassin and KILL THEM ALL"? Therapy, dude! Hug it out!

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Oooooh, now I am interested - what's the thing in Akihibara@DEEP?

The one I cannot stand to even look at is the hero of KKK2003 - sure, genius, convince a high school girl, who is your student, she is dying so she can turn for you to solace and you can have sex with her while enjoying her freaked-outedness as a safe outlet for your own illness. God, I hated him so much I haven't been able to watch Fujiki Naohito in anything else since.

Objectively, the worst one is probably in Something Happened in Bali (murder suicide!) but since he is portrayed as screwed up beyond measure, I love him as a character. Plus, the final scene of that drama is one of my faves anywhere.

Noooo! I think this may be another TY -- one of the dramas where we completely disagree.

In Akihabara@DEEP his girlfriend was gangraped in front of him and he was too scared to do anything. Yet we were supposed to feel bad for him because poor woobie was so traumatized (which included watching the whole thing, then running away when the thugs left, leaving his girlfriend lying alone on the pavement) and his friends even defended him to the rape victim by saying stuff like "he was suffering too, because he couldn't protect you!"

All in all, a major "WHAT?" episode.

- Hyun Bin's character on Kim Sam Soon. This is the only drama where I hated the main characters and just gave up because they were so awful (I thought so anyways). How people ship Sam Soon and his character is beyond me. I mean, he jerked her around all the time and also put her down constantly. Not to mention cheated on his girlfriend who was suffering from some disease or other. Guh every time I think of this drama and it's characters it makes me want to set something on fire!

- Jun Pyo in the second half. Ugh, I think I still have whiplash from how fast he went from being this dorky charming idiot to an utter douchebaggy assclown.

- Joe Cheng's character on ISWAK. Though I think I might have hated Ariel Lin's character more.

i didnt like ANYONE by the end of Kim Sam Soon. Although i came out of it with sheer lust for Kim Sun Ah. THEY KEPT CALLING HER FAT, AND I KEPT THINKING "SERIOUSLY?! Girl is SMOKING HOT."

otherwise, i deleted it after finishing it. and i never delete dramas.

He also called her ugly and not up to his standards or something along those lines and that's ridiculous as she looked better than he did.

At least you managed to finish it. I just gave up on it.

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
I finished it, but by the end I hated every character except for secondary girl and her dopey doctor boyfriend.

Sam Soon was awful - immature and totally fine with 'dating' some guy who was cheating on his girlfriend to be with her (even though that is what happened to her herself in the beginning). You go, wonderful person, you! When she told Sam Shik that she wouldn't sleep with him until she lost weight, as opposed to until he broke up with his girlfriend? I was gone. I wanted her in a pit.

As to Sam Shik? Don't even get me started. Hyun Bin is in the running for my favorite kdrama actor, due to Worlds Within, Friend, and Snow Queen, so I just try very very hard to forget he made this drama. UGH.

Date: 2009-08-25 03:17 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sodahands.livejournal.com
Yeah DanHen was the only one I could tolerate.

And the whole cheating thing, I totally agree with you.
But jfc, she said she wouldn't sleep with him until she lost weight? After all the things he said to her? And this is supposed to be a feminist drama? UGH SO MUCH HATE!

I haven't been able to watch anything else with Hyun Bin to this day since that was the first drama of his I ever saw :(

Date: 2009-08-25 03:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Yeah, I think Hyun Bin would have been put into a dog pile if it wasn't for Snow Queen (where he is this quiet, overburdened poor math genius introvert and the heroine is this awesome OCD rich bitch. Woooo!) I really really rec Worlds Within - it's my favorite drama in the world - it happens to star him but he looks and acts really different, I promise :)

But jfc, she said she wouldn't sleep with him until she lost weight? After all the things he said to her? And this is supposed to be a feminist drama? UGH SO MUCH HATE!

This was the moment I decided I hated her character like ten thousand burning suns. Tbh, I actually hated her more than him - at least he never hid his jerkiness from the start and was way younger than her - but why she, who is supposed to be older and is supposed to be this feminist strong girl is actually even more immature and useless than him was a total mystery to me.

Have to say your Worlds Within posts really made me want to watch the drama. And since I like the low-key dramas, I will definitely watch it :D

You're right though. If she was supposed to be so strong and whatnot why was she letting him treat her like crap and then was mooning over him? And the fact that she was completely okay with him cheating on his gf after everything she went through. UGH HATE EM BOTH SFM! Why... how is this drama so popular?!

BOF-the boyman brings a new definition to spinelessness and selfishness
Fated to Love You -HATEHATEHATE. It's one thing to think you're the center of the universe and you can go around being mindlessly cruel to all those who care about you. It's another thing to stay that way the whole drama and cause horrible things to happen to those who love you because of your selfishness. I would cheerfully have seen him castrated.

LOL I think poor Jun Pyo is going to be a favourite here. XD

I really didn't like Oguri Shun's Sano in HanaKimi. The OTP between him and Maki was way too blurgh for me. Also Pi's character in Sore wa Totsuzen. Actually, Pi in a lot of things. Except Stand Up!! which is the one place where i liked him weirdly.

You're right about the drama being so annoying. I &heart;s Esumi Makiko so this was such a disappointment. And anyway, i thought when they pair a Johnny with an older woman we'd get the full kiss/sex shebang. Guess that comes from watching the sempai do it so well. XD

One of these i'm going to do a Johnnys/older woman drama post and compare them... *thinks of doing it tomorrow*

Kim Sam Soon. Hyun Bin. Not so much HATEHATE more like pure annoyance.

The only one I haven't dumped like a hot potato as soon as I realized I'd hate him is Goong. Which is why I now go with my first instincts when I start dramas. Though I don't think any fictional character who wasn't raping someone, kicking a puppy or, beating up a kid/spouse/weaker person for kicks has inspired as much instantaneous hatred in me as the guy in Thank You did in a minute and a half. Nothing is going to make me root for someone who acts like that towards hospitalized kids.

Date: 2009-08-25 02:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
At least Thank You's entire point was that he was a bastard who needed to be taught what's what so his being a jerk was storywise warranted. Doesn't mean one has to like him, but at least it wasn't a case of the writer wanting me to think he was wonderful while I boggle in sheer incredulity which is what really gets me raging - see Taiwanese drama where hero hires goons to off heroine because of inheritance issues and we are supposed to think him cute and hot. Yikes. Just thinking about that drama is freaky. Or the Thai Defendant of Love, of the 'rape until she likes it' school of romance. Eeeek.

Goong annoyed me. I couldn't finish the drama because of Shin's love for his ex and the cheating and the "I'll make you happy, Chaekyung, but wait, I'll cheat on you too."

Hana-Kimi Japan as well. I didn't feel like Sano actually really liked her. Maybe just grew close to her. I thought it was better in the Taiwan version.

Why, Why, Love. The bad boy character just annoys me x____x

Dude from How To Meet A Perfect Neighbour, like Jun Pyo I loved him at first but then he too lost all his spine.

There's way more but there's so many I've watched, I have to do a good think. Plus usually I stop watching if they piss me off too much.

Oh, and Amen to the Sam Soon hate. Kim Sam Soon, oh how I hated thee. The hero I disliked but all my hate went to KSS.

Oh, I hatr spinelessness the most. Go for it or don't but stop waffling!

KSS - I will never get why it was such a hit. Agree, I lothed SS even more than I did Hyun Bin's character. I think it's surreal that the three other Hyun Bin dramas I have seen (Friend, WW, and Snow Queen) were beyond amazing and have lower ratings combined than KSS did. Why, Korea, why????
