Thursday evening blabberings

dangermousie1. I have long meant to purchase a region-free player and have finally done so, being spurred on by my desire to own a lovely official and English-subbed R3 Worlds Within dvds.
2. For a second day in a row I had a lovely evening interude of drinking coffee in a neighborhood shop and reading while baby alternately slept and ate her fist. Today, the book was Cuba Diaries by Isadora Tattlin, who wrote her account of living in Cuba (as wife of one of foreigners working in Cuba) in the early 1990s. It's a fascinating, well-written book about a place that is rather a mystery to me, like to most Americans (I think the embargo is stupid, but that is a whole separate topic).
3. This is a promotional photo for an upcoming movie Paju. I don't really have any interest in the movie itself (it's about a woman who investigates the death of her older sister and starts to fall for sister's boyfriend herself even though she suspects him in the death) but the poster is freaking gorgeous.
4. I have found my favorite scene in the entire universe (the scene where Hyun Bin comes back to Song Hye Kyo in Worlds Within) on youtube. There are no subs and it's nowhere near as wonderful without context, but it's still beyond lovely (and angsty and hot). Have a quick look:

Date: 2009-08-21 03:27 pm (UTC)My family discovered that many of the cheaper dvd players as so cheap the companies don't bother to put the region encoding on them, so I'm fortunate enough to have one. But my sister recently discovered a way that supposedly can make any player region-free. I haven't tried it on my other players yet but I should post it for everyone else to try. I'll have to find her email...
