One of my favorite movie endings ever is the ending of the 1985 Fantasy/Romance movie Ladyhawke. Ladyhawke starred Matthew Broderick as a young thief who ends up travelling with a solitary knight named Navarre (Rutger Hauer - such a crush! One of the few actors that looks convincing as a medieval knight) who always has a hawk on his wrist. But at night, when Navarre is nowhere to be seen, Broderick meets a beautiful young woman named Isabeau (Michelle Pfeiffer, looking drop-dead gorgeous) who has a wolf at her side...

Who doesn't love true love, evil curses, and a wicked bishop?

Anyway, Ladyhawke is one of my favorite romantic movies of all time. It is rather, in a lot of respects, like one of the Lais of Marie de France come to life...

But the thing I love the most? The ending. Sometimes, when I am down, I put it in and just watch it to feel better. And this time? I took caps...

Navarre is about to kill the Bishop because he believes Isabeau is dead so there is no point in his refraining...

And then Isabeau is there calling out to him and he sees her for the first time in all that time...

And he makes the Bishop look at both of them to break the curse...

OMG...here is where I usually totally lose it like the girly girl I am:

And then Isabeau confronts the Bishop. YES.

And Bishop, who cannot stomach the thought of anyone having Isabeau if he can't tries to kill her. Great idea, truly. Because it leads to this. Go,Navarre!

Back to swooning...

(Yeah, I overcapped. Whatever, they are so very pretty!)

*swooooon*

Swooooooooon! I am now a puddle of goo on the office floor, having slid off my chair first!

I love Rutger Hauer!!! I have never seen this, but will rush home to watch the last 10 mins of Blade Runner to get my Rutger Hauer fix!

Ladyhawke is one of my all time favorite movies ever! For some reason I can NEVER find it on DVD when I go looking. I should just track it down online.

Amazon's listing: http://www.amazon.com/Ladyhawke-Matthew-Broderick/dp/630469654X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1239029327&sr=8-1

Back when the LOTR movies first came out, the studios hustled to release all their fantasy movies on DVD. I appreciated this, as it let me get Willow a few necessities on DVD. Of course, most of them have been rereleased since with more extensive extras (I'm particularly fond of my Legend and Princess Bride ones) but for some reason, Ladyhawke seems to have only gotten a somewhat bare bones one.

OMG I need to see this movie again. It's always been one of my favorites and all of a sudden, I just realized that if I can find a good song, it would make for a stunning music video. *bounce*

I've never seen this movie before, but I know that it's on Encore all the time. I've only seen Michelle Pfieffer in Batman Returns, and Broderick in the Godzilla remake in the late 90's after it aired on FX, so I wasn't sure if it was worth watching. I'll have to see if I like it now.

Aren't they beautiful together? Two of my favorite actors...Michelle and Rutger. One of the few movies that has truly gorgeous horses in it.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time! The ending gives me chills.

There is a rumor going round, or maybe not a rumor, that Michelle Pfeiffer will be playing Sophie Anne on True Blood. I hope so.

I have this movie in my DVD collection. Now I want to go watch it. :)

Thanks so much for posting the screencaps.

This movie is one of my favourites. After your screencaps, I suddenly have a yearning to dig out my DVD and rewatch it :D.

BTW, did you get the rest of Shanghai Bund downloaded? I left download links for all the rest of the episodes in one of your previous posts (on Iris, IIRC).

LADYHAWKE! One of my all-time favorite movies (unfortunately with one of my all-time least-favorite soundtracks). It's the most romantic thing ever and made me adore Rutger Hauer even though he's older than my parents. I don't care! Even now, when he's in his sixties, he still does it for me.

Seriously, people, if you haven't seen Ladyhawke, watch it NOW. It's glorious.

He is older than my parents too and I don't care! :) I wish there were more movies with him back in the 1980s that were good.

The synthesizers are hilariously inappropriate.

Ah, I have such warm and fuzzy feelings for Ladyhawke (despite the totally inappropriate soundtrack). It's so pretty!
I can't believe Rutger Hauer's in his 60s now...

The soundtrack is so very 1980s! Heee.

RH is older then my parents, which is scary :)

I always loved this movie, and the ending really is wonderful. The only movie I can think of that really rivals it, as far as the endings go, is LEGEND... I just adore the song that plays at the end, and the scenery is just gorgeous.

You're making me nostalgic for 80s movies now! ^_^

Words cannot convey how much I love this movie. Everyone I know pokes fun at me for my adoration of it. But it just has the power to uplift me.

I'm sitting here at work quietly crying now after looking at your caps :)

OMG! I love this movie and I love the ending and I love Rutger Hauer as Navarre (you're right he's one of the few believable as a Medieval Knight)!

Thanks for posting it. Brings good memories to me ;)
