Drama Update...
Jun. 17th, 2009 04:23 pmI've been bad about replies lately and am much too behind. I'll try to do better, I promise!
The drama season rolls on inexorably, thus bringing us closer to some dramas I am very excited about: Swallow the Sun (mercenaries and Sung Yuri and Ji Sung, what more could I want), IRIS (a.k.a. my hyperventilation drama of the season, about a hunted assassin played by Lee Byung Hun, back to dramas after a really long time), the mini-drama Triangle (with Kang Ji Hwan and Li Ji Ah, my favorite kdrama actor and one of my fave kdrama actresses), Dream (starring Kim Bum and Joo Jin Mo in a story about men kicking other men in the face) etc etc. I really should do a proper post on all of this.
But this is about two more dramas soon to come out, one of which is a YAY and another, not so much.
The YAY is Friend which has the oldest highschoolers ever.

Clearly, the casting director has not seen real high-schoolers for a very very long time.
Despite the entire cast looking as if they had to repeat each grade, since the second grade, thrice in order to be this old and still in high school, I am in. I adore three of the men you see above: Hyun Bin (Snow Queen), Kim Min Jun (Damo), and Seo Do Young (Spring Waltz), and I am all for brotherhood and uniforms. I'll just pretend men in Korea get their highschool diploma at 30.

Plus, three ladies. Yay! I bet the fourth guy whose name I don't know is the one who won't get one. No-names never do :)
The drama which is getting a NAY? Partner.

Lee Dong Wook is adorable, but not even he can make me watch a drama about a bunch of lawyers. It would be tough going even if the drama had Bae Yong Joon, Kang Ji Hwan, and Gong Yoo. Together. Shirtless.
Plus, I did not care for the leading lady in Marrying a Millionaire.
Oh well...
ETA: Learning about Dream made me think - Kim Hyung Joon is exempt from this because he is mainly a singer and BOF was an amusing little sideline for him, but why has Lee Min Ho not signed up for any acting gigs? I am sure advertising shirts and tacos is exciting, but come on - act? Maybe? Kim Bum already has a whole other drama lined up! (But then I do think he has the most promise of the four F4 guys).

Date: 2009-06-17 09:06 pm (UTC)Weelll, the cast of the original Friend was way over highschool age as well. Guess they wanted to keep in with the tradition and not cast anyone of approriate age for the early years. ;)
There's far too many interesting dramas on this year. Did they all have to appear now?! I still have tons of older stuff I have not found time to watch yet.
Talking about older dramas, I just watched the 1st episode of Sandglass. Looks good.... If a bit messy to start with, they keep hopping between different time periods and places. Not for anyone allergic to politics or Korean near history though. There seems to be plenty of that too.

Date: 2009-06-17 09:49 pm (UTC)I'm giving Triple a go this weekend, the premise doesn't thrill me but with Coffee Prince people involved it's worth a look.

I'm excited about Friend
and Partner.Oh LMH, we really really could have done without that earth shatteringly embarrassing beer commercial. But I hear he's now recovering from his surgery and looking at scripts :) Hopefully he'll pick some awesome stuff cos I don't think my brain or any of my other major organs can handle something like BOF.

Date: 2009-06-18 09:48 pm (UTC)I actually still love him even after BOF, mainly because in her KHJ obsession, the writer sidelined him for a lot of the awful second half, but also because I thought he was good in the first half before the screenplay imploded (unlike with Goo Hye Sun who I was never impressed by).
I would actually love to see him in a drama, as long as it was not a Group 8 one.

Date: 2009-06-18 04:11 am (UTC)for a while, i got confuse 'coz you said Kim Hyung Joon. but then again, you also said BOF after his name so i'm sure you're talking about Kim HyuN JoonG. Kim Hyung Joon is another SS501 member. lol
oh! new Hyun Bin & Lee Dong Wok dramas! i hope they're both good or i won't bother d/l 'em again.

Date: 2009-06-18 05:41 am (UTC)Kim Bum also has two movies coming out soon. He's the busiest of the F4.
Kim Joon is going to be a musical soon, so good for him. Maybe now he won't just be pretty background.
I'm also looking forward to Friend, Our Legend, but I agree that none of the guys look like high school students. They all look at least 28 - maybe they got held back a lot. The girls aren't much better; I found an age for one - 24. But then, in the "flash forward" I think it will be other people doing cameos. :/
I'm also looking forward to Swallow the Sun and maybe IRIS. The last couple of seasons have been slow in terms of K-dramas that I wanted to watch, but it looks like things are getting good again.
