dangermousieI am a little behind in Black and White due to various things but have finished ep 13 earlier and - GUH. Seriously, this drama is so good. For one thing, there is the pace - it never drags and you actually have to pay close attention to everything that is going on or you will miss something in the very twisty plot. For another, nothing can be taken for granted. Every time I think I get a handle on it, it slips away.
Random thoughts:
* Zai Tian's much-lamented Burger Girl. When her body was not identified as among the victims at the blast site, I automatically assumed that her sweetness and altruism were a front for something dark and she has probably escaped and was some sort of an important figure in the underworld. I've seen a lot of action movies. But no, it's clear she is one of the two unclaimed victims, because she had no family (the scene with Zai Tian starting to sob as Forensics Girl explains the procedure for claiming corpses and how they only found her skull etc etc is just - he is so quiet about it, and restrained, sort of covering his face with his hands, it moves me more because it's not wildly over the top). I do find it interesting how, most likely, she wasn't killed for anything related to her or Zai Tian - it seems clear that the blast was to eliminate that guy with the info. She just happened in the wrong place at the wrong time.
* I like Ying Xiong, the Hero Cop (though less than I do Zai Tian) but his tendency to jump to conclusions is getting a bit irritating - it's not an Olympic sport! Also, why isn't he suspecting the Lunch Lady? (The cute girl who always hangs out with Hulk). I do. This said, the scene with him and Chen Lin, where she is so open that she likes Zai Tian and also asks if YX would be willing to give up being a policeman to be with her and he actually thinks about it (OMG) - I felt sorry for him.
* Speaking of Chen Lin. How awesome is she? She escaped from a bomb-rigged elevator and the would-be assassins knew she would - they predicated their plan on it! I also love how forthright she is. As soon as she realizes she is in love with Zai Tian she goes and tells him - her confession to him, when he sits there and doesn't say a word and she is so open and addresses his abandonment issues too, if pretty darn amazing! I love how she realizes that he is grieving for Burger Girl and places no demands on him to reciprocate her feelings - that would be selfish. But she is not selfish about it, she just wants for him to know where she stands. I love her to bits.
* There is another indication that Zai Tian is the Chairman's illegitimate son (Da Yan seems to hint as much to the mob co-leader. Btw, I was all set to suspect co-leader because of murder of undercover policeman and then they pulled the rug from under that suspicion by having him tell the chairman of it, i.e. not hiding it a bit). NO! No way! I refuse to believe Zai Tian and Chen Lin are half-siblings. Nooooo! Please no!!! Also, what kind of WTF father would, upon locating his kid, have him kidnapped, give him involuntary plastic surgery, and set-up with a fake identity. That is a whole other level of insane! I tend to think that, instead, Zai Tian is that "someone" who the Chairman is protecting - for what reason is unclear - I don't think Zai Tian really has his memories so he doesn't know either. Can he be a former member of that secret mercenary group? It seems unlikely - they have that operation which removes any compassion and Zai Tian, with all his flaws, is not unfeeling in the least.
* Speaking of Zai Tian. I love him even more when he is so serious and quiet than when he is dorky hyper (and how interesting, he went from wearing white to black - hmmm). I loved the scene of him with the Forensics Girl. I could ship them, if I didn't love Chen Lin too much.not siblings not siblings not siblings! Forensics Girl is pure awesome, though going to a crime scene in the middle of the night when the case is so creepy and conspiracy-ish, probably not the smartest.
* The Hot Dog Guy = LOVE. I think he is some sort of super-assassin but with a consicence? LOVE.
In other news, my interest in the upcoming kdrama Triple went from obsessive to non-existent. The reasons for it are two-fold. One, they replaced Kang Ji hwan, my favorite kdrama actor, with Lee Jung-Jae (I know he is famous but I have never seen him in anything, and I find him pretty unattractive, to say the least). And second, the topic of figure-skating seems to have become a sideline and it's all about *yawn* ad executives. A drama about ad guys with a lead I dislike? No, thank you. I think I'll be too busy obsessing over Swallow the Sun, which airs at the same time and has leads I adore plus mercenaries as a topic, to care though.

That will probably be it for new stuff, since I'll have a ridiculous amount of summer tv to work through (True Blood! Leverage! Mad Men!)

Date: 2009-06-02 07:52 pm (UTC)I'm relying on Drama Wiki on the episode number, but it's been known to be wrong from time to time, so it might well be 24 eps. At least that way they wouldn't have to rush with solving all the twists and puzzles they've introduced in the plot.
