A Farewell to Smile...

I think I just might have to give up on Matsumoto Jun and Aragaki Yui's Smile. It's a huge pity as it's the first Japanese drama to catch my attention in a year (I am much more for Korean and Taiwanese dramas, as I am sure you've noticed) and I have found it understated, touching, and all-around pitch-perfect. Plus, the story is something I would eat up with a big big spoon: prejudice, hopeful love, and two very appealing leads.

BUT. I do not speak Japanese and there are no subs anywhere I can access past episode 3 even though we are on ep 8 already. I cannot watch without subs - that would just be an excercise in frustration. I will go back to it if the subs for it ever become available, but for now, good-bye to Bito and Hana, alas.

But before that, I bring you a few caps from ep 3. Because it was, as every other ep so far, pitch-perfect.

This scene made me think of Hanadan, even if Bito and Hana couldn't be any more different from Domyouji and Makino.

As far as I know, Stormy Subs is still doing this series, but they've restricted their subs to members of their community (which you have to apply to get into). It's a bit of a pain, but it's better than nothing if you really want to see it!

I applied but I hardly qualify as a mad Arashi fan and said so on the app (I like Matsujun et al in their acting gigs but am not big on pop music of any sort, really).

I know they cross-post with our_hour and I am a member of that (which is where I got ep 3) but there is nothing there past that.

Oh well, there are tons of dramas out there, I'll be fine :)

I'm the same (which is why I haven't applied yet). I like Arashi, but I'm not crazy for them.

According to their page on fansub wiki, they've only released 3 episodes anyway, so I guess that's all that's been done.

Restricting their downloads like that is a bit...extreme...

I can understand their indignation at the abuses certain people have done but I think if you're going to put anything online, you're going to have to be prepared for such things. I wouldn't like it if it happens to BillaSub - but I'd rather it be out there than not, regardless, you know?

Yeah, it's their subs and they have every right to do what they want with them but I don't think mysoju et all are going away any time soon.

stormy done to ep. 3, probably due to final, maybe that why sub are slow. vito and hana is so cute. they are getting cuter as the ep. goes one. i too impatient so i watch the raw.

You can not give up on Smile at all dear. the moment between these two is getting more and more heart melting and sweet. just hang in there.

I'd probably be in the same, boat, though. I've been studying the language for years and I'm still stuck at the upper intermediate level.
