Catch-All post
May. 20th, 2009 04:15 pmI haven't had much time for dramas in the last few days but on the plus note, Baby Mousie is now trying to shape consonants with her mouth, really really hard - I think she is trying to say the letter "p". Her babble now sounds a bit more like talking.
1. I did catch up on ep 12 of Black and White which was (big shock, here) awesome. The confrontation with Zai Tian and Chen Lin = winning my heart. I confess I am getting more and moreobssessed with interesed in Zai Tian and less and less in Ying Xiong - the latter is cool (and hot) but much less messed-up and not a mystery.
2. Where are the subs for Smile? I can't find any past ep 2. It's Matsujun, people. Matsujun. You are telling me that if a subber is slow others won't pick up the slack? *emoface*. Must have more Bito and Hana as am in mad withdrawal. This is the first jdrama I've been interested in, in a year+ and with my luck it's the one with irregular subs. If the subs are not coming out ever again, fine, I'll watch raw (because that's how much I love it) but still, *repeat emoface*.
3. Speaking of jdramas, I really need to continue Byakuyakou. I stopped a bit back but I loved it - must watch more. Ditto for Ice World. Am clearly lamo with no attention span.
4. Still haven't had a chance to start Brilliant Legacy but this pic of the leads cracked me up immensely:

5. Is it just me or does this promo shot for Swallow the Sun makes them look like Asian version of G.I. Joe?

I especially love the dude in the pimpalicious yellow jacket. It's his cammo when he infiltrates the color-blind. But, oh boy, how is Ji Sung so darn pretty? He remains the only kdrama star, besides Hae Hee, who looked good even with the military haircut.
6. I have just discovered (yes am backward) the streaming feature on Netflix. Buh-bye world as I shall be occupied by it: they have all sorts of things there, from silent movies to anime (I am sure subbed but even if I prefer dubbed, I don't prefer it enough to not watch via streaming)
7. I think we have someone auditioning for being Young Voldemort:

I haven't seen pop star TOP (what kind of a name is it anyway? Is there another member of his band named BOTTOM?) in anything, but this pic, ott moody as it is, got me even more excited for IRIS, where he plays an assassin, presumably after our awesome leading man, Lee Byung Hun.
8. Because one can never have too much of the adorable Yoon Kye Sang (Sister in law is 19, Crazy for You, Who are you), here is a pic from upcoming Triple:

9. Dumas' The Women's War is quite entertaining - I don't care for the hero (don't hate him or anything but he is not particuarly compelling) but not only are the poltics fun, the two female lead characters, the "well-behaved" Claire de Cambes (who nontheless rides around dressed as a man and is actively involved in a Civil War) and Nanon de Lartigues (a very clever, ambitious lover of a powerful old Duke. She is portrayed positively, which I loved) are very very awesome. I think they should stop competing for the love of a rather light-weight hero and instead have an awesome lesbian affair.
10. Get to see Star Trek this weekend. So excited!

Date: 2009-05-20 09:08 pm (UTC)Btw, I like heavy and dramatic (never came across that sort of thing that I didn't like, except for 90 Days where the poor hero has both an incurable desease and was in love with his cousin, who was also married. That got a bit too ott for me :) I love kdrama cliches too, when done reasonably well) but hope it won't get too emo - I want something relatively fluffy to watch not another Bali.

Date: 2009-05-20 09:36 pm (UTC)I also like a certain degree of jerkiness. What am I talking about, I love it! *remembers Mike He and his 'devil' characters* But! But! Usually if there are jerks and assholes it's because they are really hurt/lonely and actually have a really good heart. And their actions, however unreasonable and jackass, reflect that to a certain degree. But the guy in BL is so two dimensional for now and there is nothing beyond his utterly spoiled and disgusting behavior. I mean he already has done 2 things to piss the hell out of me and to deserve a slap from me (or a punch...the inner Makino in me has awakened!). 2 is a lot...I'm so annoyed! Okay, I'm off to watch some more. XD

Date: 2009-05-20 09:42 pm (UTC)From what I read, the hero of BL doesn't have a sad/dysfunctional back story to explain the jerkiness (like the hero of Bali who came from an evil and abusive family, or hero of Spring Waltz who had a backstory from hell, or Domyouji who was basically brought up by wolves etcetc). Oddly, I find his more realistic explanation rather appealing - he got spoiled rotten by a doting grandma (because she felt bad for the death of hero's dad) and so now is a twerp. It totally makes sense even if it doesn't make him loveable. But that's why I am even more eager to see how and if finally having to grow up will change him. It might not (or the drama might not do a good job setting it up, Lord knows BOF didn't) but then I'll just think at least the adorable adorable HHJ got riches out of it even if they came with a jerk husband attached :)

Date: 2009-05-20 10:09 pm (UTC)One thing is that he was revoltingly rude and condescending to the manager of the restaurant where his grandmother put him to 'work' (yeah 'work'! i wanna work like that) and then when the manager said something completely reasonable to him, he punched him! Maybe the jerk felt offended by the manager's logic, but I certainly thought it was sound. And again it wasn't the 'bad boy' kind of punch...where the guy punches someone who has insulted him in uncontrollable rage. It was more like he punched him because the manager dared to even talk to him! Wtf is that?
And then...oh my God! I have no words. The jerk saw HHJ's character working in a club (trying to make a living for herself and her autistic brother, the poor girl!) and tripped her for no good reason. He then dragged her and pushed against the wall (WHY???) and as a result her phone broke (the phone with which she desperately needs to contact her brother). Every action he does is vile and horrible. Forgive me, I'm sure my opinion of him will change once we get some character development.

Date: 2009-05-20 10:17 pm (UTC)He does sound like a Grade A jerk, which means that I am going to love his transformation into lovesick puppy provided they handle it properly.
I remember first time I came across Hanadan, I loathed Domyouji to bits and was appalled that Makino (who I adored) was going to end up with the snobbish, violent ****. By the end, I was in love with Domyouji myself. I also loathed the hero of Who Are You at the start (he was awful to the heroine whose Dad just died and was just a coldly mean selfish person) and hero of Something Happened in Bali (he treated heroine as a hooker, offering her $$$ for a night, even though he knew she was a tourguide in tough financial spot, not a call girl) but I ended up loving them both. So hopefully it will end up the same here.
Of course, that is only if they handle it properly - most kdramas, whatever their flaws, usually work for me when it comes to OTP stuff - I am pretty easy to please that way. But we'll see. *crosses toes*

I hated both Domyouji and Rui and I love both now. LOLOLOL. If anybody told me I'd love Domyouji, I'd have thought they were insane.
I get you on the "more realistic" thing - that usually grabs me more, too.

Date: 2009-05-21 02:51 am (UTC)The thing is though I never hated Domyouji too much, not even in the Korean version. But I loath the guy in BL. I bet you are really curious about him now =)

Date: 2009-05-20 09:10 pm (UTC)Who knows, arashi.vox might have real life issues that make her late? Fansubbing is very much based on the subbers life schedules, after all :).
Edit: Oh, and B&W is EXCELLENT! The ending to episode 12 literally had me screaming out loud. I'm very much looking forward to the next episodes.
They are doing a wonderful job of building up tension without really revealing that much. All the hinting and not revealing is doing a wonderful job of addicting it's viewers :D.

Date: 2009-05-20 09:20 pm (UTC)12 was so good! Also, it's pretty obvious Chen Lin didn't blow up but I am also wondering if she somehow made it back to Zai Tian's roof because in the preview we see him go out with a gun out there as if someone had arrived unannounced.
I mean, we need to have this scene from the trailer sometime:
No way they are siblings. I can't see TPTB having them make out repeatedly and then turn out to be sibs.no subject
Date: 2009-05-20 09:38 pm (UTC)I definitely should have taken Japanese instead of Welsh in college.
I so agree with this feeling. Maybe I should have attended to my healf-hearted language studies a bit more when I was still in the university :P.

Date: 2009-05-20 11:06 pm (UTC)I bet the first words will be either that, her name (which I use a lot when I talk to her), "da" (yes in Russian) which I also use a lot, or "lapa" (a Russian endearment I use a lot).
Though who knows. My first word was "lampa" (lamp) and I doubt my parents used it a lot - seeing her fixation with lights, that might be her first word too :)
We speak two languages in the house and sometimes I play Mandarin/Hindi/Korean/Japanese language things without headphones so she might be a rather confused munchkin.

I'm super excited for IRIS too! TOP as a curly haired, green suit wearing assassin!
(Btw, I think "TOP" is an improvement over his old stage name "Tempo"... Oh Koreans and their fabulously odd stage and band names!)
I love yellow jacket man too!

Date: 2009-05-21 01:40 am (UTC)OTOH I love the secondary guy. He's actually kind of Ji Hoo-ish but I'm really liking him. But that might also have something to do with the heroine who doesn't sit around and mope and take advantage of the other guy's niceness and tells him time and time again that she can take care of herself and she does. And I don't find him all stoic

Date: 2009-05-21 03:00 am (UTC)Yeah, TOP's original name was Tempo, which I think was better. I don't know if you know Se7en, but he had something to do with the name. I guess TOP is shortened from Tempo...it's just weird, but I don't mind. I still am trying to finish the other drama he (TOP) was in (I Am Sam), but I haven't got back to it yet.
Have you seen My Sister-in-Law Is 19 ? I have that on my list to watch, and am wondering if it's good or not.
