I have a dear friend who's still trying really hard to have a baby. Her fiancé and her have tried for many years now. And I know they would be fantastic parents. Not perfect, because that would be scary but good and loving.

And when I see news like that (and sadly there's a bunch of them every month), I always think about them because that is so unfair on so many freakin levels.

I wish people would get tested for fitness before having kids. I wish it was mandatory. You need to have a license to have a pet but not one to have a human being.

I imagine it must be very difficult for people with genuinely strong beliefs to balance them against the overwhelming urge to do the best you can for your child but these people...

Taking care of their daughter was simply to much hassle for them.

Corporal punishment is too good for them imo hopefully they'll go to prison and get the same kind of treatment a pedo would.

I can't help but wonder there are "cultural" reasons as well as flat being crappy excuses for human beings. Girls are generally not as valued as boys in Indian/Hindu society and a girl born with disorder is like a double curse. They wanted this girl to die. That's the politically incorrect truth.

The thing that enraged me the most is that it can't be all cultural - they took the Mom to the hospital double-quick when she got sick. UGH. I just want them to die. If they didn't want the kid because she was a girl or whatever, or just because they were lousy people, just put her to child services, don't do what they did! Just. Rage.

Oh, I don't mean it was a cultural decision to avoid hospitals. I meant it was a cultural decision to disregard the life of a girl with a "defect." Most marriages in India are still arranged, regardless of class. The process of putting together a dowry and arranging a suitable marriage for a daughter is expensive. They were probably thinking, "How are we going to marry this one off with this problem?" She would be considered a lifelong burden to her parents. There is treatment for eczema but I don't think there is a cure.

Whatever the reason though, I agree with you. There's a special place in hell for "parents" like these.
