In case the above pic doesn't give it away, I am sort of madly in love with Spring Waltz. It's so very perfect so far. It's a very "traditional" kdrama, i.e. an angsty pure love story. And much as I like untraditional kdramas, let's face it, I got into kdramas for the former. And it's such a lovely example of it.

Wherever they filmed the island scenes is so pretty. In fact, this just might be the prettiest filmed kdrama I have seen. Whether it's the scenes on the island during Jae Ha and Eun Young's childhood (the vivid colors and the floating camera moves) or the present day scenes (I love the almost dream-like scene when Eun Young and Jae Ha share a train compartment and we see the outside through the window reflections).

Little Jae Ha (then known as Su Ho) is such a berk! (to use a British but extremely appropriate term). But seeing that his Dad is some sort of abandoning con artist who ditched him at an orphanage last year and now ditched him with a total stranger, I don't really blame him. He has ISSUES and is acting out. Want to smack him anyway, though. Little Eun Young is completely adorable. She is also rather sick. If I weren't assured of a happy ending, I'd assume it meant she'd keel over at the end as he is left weeping in the dust...

I am glad to see that the tradition of evil parents is upheld in SW. I rather want to feed Su Ho's biologial dad to particularly sadistic wolves. Yum-yum.

Awwww. little Su Ho is crying over little Eun Young and is blaming himself for her getting sick. I am meeeeeeeeelting. And the scenes of the kids playing around on the island. I am shipping the two quite hard. And when he tells her the truth about himself (i.e. he's never been to America, and he quit school after second grade), and tells her he is a gangster, a thief, and a liar but "can I still be your oppa?" Seriously. Goo. And she leaves without answering and he starts spelling out his apologies in the sand. Seriously. Also, where does Korea get so many good child actors.

And now I have to go to bed, curses! I want to watch MORE. MORE!!!!!!!

You know my issues with heroes like Jae Ha, so it may be significant when I say that I like him. A lot.

The two as kids is just ridiculously cute.

I think the thing with Jae Ha is that to me they really establish why he isn't a particularly fluffy person. Also, standoffish never bothers me as much as immature which sometimes appear as lead characters in kdramas and annoy me.

I am on ep 3 now (couldn't help myself, see ETA :D) and oh, how I wish that Jae Ha and Eun Young teamed yp to murder Jae Ha's Dad. He is so disgustingly horrible. UGH! The children actors are beyond lovely though.

Side note. Do you know there is an upcoming drama "Friend" which is going to star (in addition to Hyun Bin) both Suh Do-Young and Kim Min Jun. It's like a bizarre EotS/Damo cross-over for me :)

Well, it also treats him like a jerk, instead of the normal "But he has angst, so don't worry about the jerkiness!" bit. But really, this has EVERYTHING that annoys me in kdramas to the max, but I don't mind it at all.

I had to think which dad you meant! The adopted parents are far from saintly, too, but more sympathetic.

I hadn't heard of that drama, but am now curious. The real EotS/Damo crossover is that the same kid (well...he's 18~ now, I think) plays the child version of the male lead in both. (And then the actress who plays the girl you really like in East of Eden played the young version of the heroine in EotS, and young!Sujini in Legend was also young!Jin Yi in Ha Ji Won's Hwang Jin Yi...)

Yeah, I noticed that about EotS' younger version of the heroine!

Btw, I am further in into EotS and I really like it a lot. But what is with the weird ends for the eps for the first few eps - did your version had this too: it just goes into a montage from future eps (and I don't mean next eps, I mean eps and eps down the road) without any warning. It rather confused me for a bit.

I think another reason Jae Ha's behavior doesn't bother me is because it doesn't tamp down the heroine. She completely bulldozes over it so far with her cheerfulness.

I think that's a sageuk thing. The other's that I've seen do the same, but (aside from Dae Jang Geum) it isn't as noticable because they aren't as long, and you don't want to have a clip of the last episode in episode 5.

Wait until Daniel Henney starts giving the heroine shoes.

But are they glass?

I continue to be impressed with the ability of kdramas to churn horrific parents. Jae Ha's Dad is such a strong contender for evil parent of the year. It's a pity he has no mustache to twirl...

If I were Jae Ha, I'd go for therapy before I'd go for lurve...

You're only starting with the evil dad, too. And he does multiple encores.

He is so thoroughly evil. One must admire such total dedication. If I were Jae Ha, I'd never have any kids. Can you imagine the traits they might inherit?
