I am reading The Deluge (a novel set in 17th-century Poland) in Russian translation and am loving it so far.
This quote made me literally LOL
"У нас Кокосинские, Пыпки по прозванию, большая знать. Этого безвинно чести лишили за то, что он пану Орпишевскому дом спалил и дочку увез, а людей вырезал. Достойный товарищ!"
Or, translated into English (badly, by me, a character talking about another, without any irony): "Kokosinskii are great nobility. This one was wrongly dishonored because he burned Pan Orpishevski's house and took his daughter, and killed his people. A worthy comrade!"
Bwahahahahahaaaa!
That's the protagonist talking to his fiancee. So far he is a hot jerk and amuses me greatly even if I want to get the heroine to tell him to go boil his head, which hopefully she will at some point as he is pretty horrible husband material and she doesn't seem a pushover.
