In the latest Veronica Mars fic round-up, I have three fics to recommend: Shuffle (Greatest Hits of 1966), an excellent and unusual post 2.22 story (if you are interested in ships, it's L/V), and The thing about Logan, a wondeful L/V fic that makes me so happy. There is also Bad Boys Break Fast, which is a delightful take on Logan cooking breakfast in 2.22.

Oh, and this morning? Chosen short shot of angst to get me going for the day? An ep from Season 1 of One Tree Hill, the horrid cheesefest that I can't help but be addicted to. CMM annoys the heck out of me, and I think Peyton and Brooke should be tied together and thrown off a boat, but I love me some Nathan/Haley (see Previous picspam and post on them). The show itself might be an evening version of daytime soap (OTH does not even try to transcend the teen genre or stand out the way Buffy or VM or Roswell), but the Nathan/Haley thing is what keeps me watching: they do have genuine chemistry and are awfully sweet together (I haven't seen most of S2, apparently the ship gets really messed with. Netflix is to the rescue, so we shall see). It starts out as a general cliche of a jerky rich jock and a grounded Miss Study but becomes a lot more fun (though no less cliche) as Nathan recieves enough angst for a small elephant and the whole thing is adorable. So I watched the bit where he comes into her roof after almost keeling over and tells her how much she means to him blah blah. Cheese, I love you.

I am reading Tanith Lee's The Gods are Thirsty, a novel about Camille Desmoulins and it's excellent. It has this unique, poetic writing style I love. She switches narrative persons with each chapter yet somehow it works. This has nothing in common with The Silver Metal Lover, the other book of hers I read except for the style. I think I am going to read much much more of her, now. [livejournal.com profile] aliterati, not much on Robespierre so far (Camille does mention something about following him to Hell. I think he means moral Hell as otherwise his chornology doesn't work), but you'd love the bit where he mentioned that Robespierre loved roses, and so Saint-Just used to bring them to him by the armful, "like a young bride."

Because it should be recced, [livejournal.com profile] mimesh, did a humongous Hayden Christensen picspam. Go here.

And I've finished Creezy. It's not bad but it's flawed. The idea (conflict between a politician's outward, public life and his private love for his mistress) is interesting but the script never really carries it out (ripe for BW remake, this one. Points to them for pulling away from melodrama. After his mistress tells him she will take him back if he comes by midnight or if not she will never see him again, and he fails because he has to meet the President, you see the politician look up at her dark apartment and he breaks down, crying and then walks off. What he doesn't know is that she killed herself. I do love that the movie doesn't have him find out and the resulting melodrama). The bigger problem though, is in the portrayal of the relationship. We must believe that this clever, cynical, somewhat distant man is so madly in love with this woman, he is willing to sacrifice his career for her. But we never see enough of their relationship for the viewer to believe it. Yeah, they are shown having sex a lot, but no matter how good she is, that's not enough for a relationship that lasted a long time and that results in such love. We never really see them interact. Plus, the actress is attractive enough but no goddess of beauty, and she has no charisma and not much acting ability and generates negative chemistry with Alain Delon, who is generally a bit cold as is. So yeah. Interesting, but not great.

Next movie on the list to watch is Musa: The Warrior, a Korean period action film. I am not sure what it's about but it looks beautiful and stars Zhang Ziyi.

I am reading Tanith Lee's The Gods are Thirsty

Yes! I'm so glad that you're enjoying it. I'm always filled with mild apprehension when I recommend a book, because taste is so varied.

That's not Riteish Deshmukh in that last pic with Rani, is it?

Glad you like :)

OMG, the third and last SRK pics? Kill me dead! Guhhhhhh. And the one where he presses Rani against that building? *fans self*

I even managed to check out the KANK homepage last weekend and I simply can't wait for this movie. August (it was August, wasn't it?) is still so far away. But judging by the rate they release these pictures we'll almost know the entire movie before it hits the theaters. ;)

Yup. He looks so amazing in these. All grown up and elegant and hot.

Yeah, I am beginning to think we'll see the entire flick in stills.

I *still* can't help but fear that Rani might be miscast for the role, no matter how great an actress she is.

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Why? From what I can tell she plays a neat freak who is unhappy in marriage and finds love with another. Step up from a Bolly heroine in a Sunny Deol film, but hardly requiring huge and unusual thespian skills (Black was a lot harder, IMO). It's like a mix of her Chalte Chalte, Paheli and Hum Tum roles.

Yeah, but I can't help it, I associate her more with the serious type, rather than the uberromantic one (which I can't help but think would be required for this setup, if we are to even consider rooting for Rani/SRK for even 5 minutes), so I'll be curious to see how she'll do.

I guess it depends on the perception. I found her and SRK a fun couple in CC and her and Abhi in BaB as well as her and Saif in HT. But I do think KJ is going for a more somber tone, so this might fit. I have no idea about the movie, but it seems that for the two characters, it's not just that being with the other is so right, but also that everything else in their life is wrong. I do think Rani and SRK have chemistry but once again, subjective.

I didn't think Preity could do uber romantic until VZ and then she bowled me over.

Guh indeed. How much do I love your posting all of these at SRK.org, btw? Thiiiiiiiis much. I can't wait till this movie comes out!
