dangermousie: (Capital Scandal: excuse me)

I had a dream and now have a total craving!

Please please rec me a drama where the male lead is pushing the female lead away (or won't confess his love) because of unworthiness all the while secretly being madly in love with her and staring.

I will accept unworthiness by reasons of poverty, terminal illness, amnesia or what not, but what would really strike gold and what I am really looking for is unworthiness by reason of some disability like blindness and being in a wheelchair. Please? Please? I have a desperate craving. And yes, I've already seen (and loved) Itoshi Kimi E, my second-favorite jdrama.

It can also be an anime or a movie. Please?

I haven't seen either of these so I can't tell you what they're like and I don't know if you've seen them either:

Jotei
Shiroi Kage

Of Taiwanese dramas the only one I can think of is Silence and I'm pretty sure you've already seen that. And for Kdramas, I think I'm Sorry I Love You has something similar but I haven't seen that either.

I can't think of any movies. There are a lot I know of where the girl has a disease though. I wish I could be of more help.

I've seen some Jotei and nothing could make me watch more :)

I love MISA. Haven't seen Shiroi Kage so will check it out. Thank you!

Yeah, I have no interest in ever even attempting to watch Jotei but I hope Shiroi Kage is good.

Jotei wasn't that great of a drama, but at least it wasn't as bad as some other crud I watched.

LOL. It wasn't the worst I have seen either, which is pretty scary.

Hmm, have you seen or read Garasu no Kamen/Glass Mask? While the hero is more of a secondary character he's prepared to become the 'villain' to keep the heroine focused on her goal, while secretly supporting/pining after her behind a facade of aloofness. I find this very attractive.

Aside from that, I can't think of anything, which is odd because it's a kink of mine as well, although my favourite "we can't be together, because..." is the insurmountable barrier of age, with bonus points if one of the pair is a teacher.

Best of luck on finding something!

Ooh I second this rec. He does deliberately keep the heroine at arms length. It take's her quite a while to work out that he likes her and has been going out of his way to help her reach her goal. I have to admit I found the height & age deference of the hero & heroine in the live action version amusing... And the way he was always calling her little girl. I must be kind of twisted because I still really like Glass Mask I, II & the Special.
From what I recall there is an as yet unfinished manga, one 12 episode anime from the 80s, another anime?, and the live action.

Ooooh, I haven't seen the Special! I might go and hunt that one down - it really is an excellent adaptation.

The manga is unfinished at 42 (!) volumes and seemed like it would never be finished because the mangaka joined a religious order or something and abandoned the work, but she released a statement either last year or the year before that she was planning on completing it eventually. There was a dodgy anime from about 20 years back that didn't really do anything storywise (I have it somewhere and couldn't finish it) and the 2005 anime version has yet to be subbed in full, I believe the group is at ep 25 of 52. :(

So the live-action is the most complete version out there, which is good because I love the actors and the angst is delicious and what better hero than a repressed, 'cold' businessman who calls the object of his affection Chibi-chan and pretends to hate her while secretly enduring the pain of what he thinks can only ever be a one-sided love.

...as usual, now that I've pimped it I want to watch it myself. ;_;

I think I got the special from Jdramas. They changed the actress that played Ayumi which I wasn't expecting, so that kind of threw me.

Heh! You've got me watching it again now!

btw it looks like volume 43 is about to be published if this site is accurate

I am watching "Manatsu no Merry Christmas" now and it is all about him being unworthy and bad-boy type so he just pretends to be a friend. And later on they will think that they are siblings (I think). Ah, and when they were kids in an orphanage he made a Christmas in summer for her (with snow). I think you might like, though I only watched 2.5 eps yet i like it.

Ah, and when they were kids in an orphanage he made a Christmas in summer for her (with snow).

And this scene is made more poignant by the fact that the orphanage is in a small tropical island near Okinawa, where real snow is almost completely unheard of, but he still managed to give her the illusion of snowfall so that Santa could come during Christmas.

Reminds me that I should try to finish this at some point :).

Shiroi Kage?
In a roundabout way it is a *I'm unworthy of her blablabla* dorama, and Nakai Masahiro is fantastic. It could be worth a try.

Suna no Utsuwa
Another Nakai Masahiro dorama, which has a very different *I'm unworthy of her blablabla* theme but nevertheless it worked for me. *sniffle* And it has Watanabe Ken as a supporting actor :D

The first thing that pops to mind isn't even an asian drama - it's the Road to Avonlea series (particularly the very ending where Gus ends up blind).

Corner With Love has a tiny bit of that - especially at the beginning with the staring.

The Korean movie Innocent Steps covers that a bit - his leg injury prevents him from dancing so he pushes her away so he won't suppress her talent.

While i love love LOVE Avonlea, Im betting that mousie doesnt want to have to watch seven seasons just to get to the blindness and the payoff..which only takes 2 or 3 episodes, total.

that said, OMGGUSPIKEILOVEYOU.

EEE! I feel the same way about Gus. And those last few episodes (ok - any episode containing Gus) are awesome.

"Felicity deserves better - & she's too decent a person to leave a blind man"

"I don't want to loose the chance to love you with all my heart"

~swoon~

i have about five seasons on burned discs, but all i really do is scan for Gus. How Kissing Was Discovered, A Dark and Stormy Night, and Friends and Relations are some of my favorites. MmmMmm, Gus Pike.

I second on Shiroi Kage, and there is one more dorama with Nakai, called Saigo no koi, though there the women pushes the male away. u.u" And I'm unsure with Tokyo Wankei~?
Aishiteriru to itte kure is a great one if you're looking for disability - though it's hearing, or clearly said deafness as topic there.
From anime... Aishiteruze Baby. There is quite some pushing there.

Forgot to mention Koukou Kyoushi. If you haven't heard about it before, it's with the same guy as in Itoshi kimi e. It's about a school teacher who is ill, and he makes one of his students belive that she is the one with the sickness...

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
I tried that drama and even though it was well made, I never finished it because it made me ill!

(Also, his issue isn't unworthiness. Quite to the contrary -- he is a disgusting human being).

Oh shucks, I had a manga recommendation but I'm not sure about the guy pushing the girl away because he feels unworthy. It's more because of previous bad luck with girlfriends.
