I am going to rewatch Seasons 1 and 2 of Veronica Mars, one of my favorite TV shows (I like to pretend S3 does not exist, thank you very much!)
Who is with me? It would be fun to have a group rewatch!
In case you have never heard of VM (my LJ used to be VM-central, but that was a couple of years ago), VM was a snarky, clever show which centered around Veronica, a cynical, battered-by-life high-schooler living in a shallow Southern California town, who helped her Private Eye father solve mysteries, and solved some on her own. It's such a clever, incredibly well-written show that made me laugh and cry!
Season 1, which is the best, centers around Veronica's obsessive, not-too-healthy quest to find out who murdered her best friend, the town's golden girl Lilly Kane. After Lilly's murder, Veronica's life fell apart: her mother left town, her father lost his job, her perfect boyfriend, Lilly's brother, ditched her without an explanation, and she ended up ostracized and eventually raped at a party by someone she does not remember.
Now the former naive idealist is a hard-as-nails outsider with an attitude, on the outs with the privileged rich kids in her school, but slowly learning to feel friendship and trust again. If she doesn't get buried under the town's secrets, of course.
Veronica Mars:

Keith Mars, formerly Sheriff, now a Private Eye, the one stable and loving presence in Veronica's life. But is he her biological father?

Lilly Kane, the murdered best friend, who is dead but still very much present:

Logan Echollsmy total crush, Lilly's former boyfriend, the leader of "09ers" (i.e. the privileged kids), and Veronica's biggest nemesis. Is there more to him than meets the eye? I used to ship them to an unhealthy degree.

Duncan Kane. The serious, studious "golden boy" son of Jake Kane, a software millionaire, Duncan was Lilly's brother and Veronica's boyfriend. He broke it off with Veronica without any explanation and has become a living zombie since.

Wallace Fennel. The first friend Veronica makes since Lilly's death.

Eli "Weevil" Navarro. A leader of a biker gang, he becomes a sort-of ally of Veronica's.

There are many many more, but these are the main ones.
Btw, my ship of choice? Was Logan/Veronica. They were so gloriously messed-up!

Date: 2008-12-17 10:04 pm (UTC)Sorry, couldn't resist.
I need to find some VM icons to upload. I have all these empty icon spaces.
So, when do you want to start? I am probably going to dust off my DVDs tonight or tomorrow...

For me, I am not sure what would trump: shipping the heroine with guy who thought she was his half-sister and loved her anyway or shipping the heroine with abuse victim with a death wish the size of Nevada. It was all almost drama-worthy!
Funnily enough, in pure theory, the D/V would appeal to me much more, but because of chemistry and the way it was acted out, I ended up a rabid V/Ler.
Sometimes I wish Jason Dohring would have gotten Duncan's part which is what he auditioned for -- it really would have been epic drama then and I would have shipped D/V in crazy fashion!

Oh my god, seriously?? I can't even imagine!

Date: 2008-12-17 11:08 pm (UTC)I really wonder how it would have turned out, because initially Logan was just going to be the antagonist and it wasn't in the plans for the writers to hook Logan and Veronica up at all, let alone make them the OTP. Duncan was going to be the true love and all. But then I guess they liked JD's acting or chemistry or whatever better, so they went all-out on L/V.
So it makes me wonder how it would have been if they'd gotten him for Duncan. D/V would have probably turned into this angsty glorious super-OTP or something. Missed kdrama opportunity!

Date: 2008-12-17 11:24 pm (UTC)Granted, I preferred L/V, but how did it hurt me if someone else shipped D/V? D/V was intended as canon initially but then L/V became canon. I confess to in first season basically shipping whoever V liked at the time. Show threw her with Duncan, I shipped D/V. Show threw her with Troy, I shipped T/V. Show threw her with Logan? L/V.
I confess the scene with Duncan in the driveway yelling at her with tears that "I thought you were my sister" is pretty pretty awesome.
