Some Bollywood movies are too "low class" to ever come abroad. I think I am glad.

The giant strike for feminism and class that is Bold:

This looks unappealing in every way, from classy to sexy.

Want to feed your feminist rage? Here is the plot: Heroine’s character in the movie is a rape victim who seeks revenge on her attacker by seducing him. During the rape scene [Tanvi] Varma [the heroine] is filmed topless.

Ehh, I can't even feel the feminist rage, it's all too absurd!

The only review I could find said the following (quote):

well done girl. india need your kind of actress. go more topless.

What I liked about the movie:
topless

What I didn't like about the movie:
need more bold

Would you recommend this movie to your friend: Yes

Sadly, it's not just the low-class movies that have horrible messages for women. I remember watching a movie years ago in which Rani Mukherji's character gets raped by a guy in front of all these kids (she was a teacher) and she ends up not only marrying him but trying to woo him into falling in love with her. That made me sick to my stomach.

OMG! I went looking and found the plot of this Rani movie which sounds even more horrible in more detail:

Mala works as a school-teacher. One day her friend confides in her about her love affair with the son of a wealthy man, who has been intimate with her, but now is marrying someone else. Mala accompanies her friend to this male's wedding, disrupts it, and eventually ends up getting it canceled. The groom's brother, Raja, is enraged and insults Mala, in response to which she slaps him. Enraged all the more, Raja seeks Mala out, and in the presence of her pupils, brutally slaps and then rapes her. The police get involved and Raja is arrested. Raja's dad, Rai Bahadur Diwanchand, attempts to give some money to Mala's guardian, Gyani Kartar Singh, who refuses to accept it. The court case proceeds, and the Judge, overcome by Mala's evidence, finds Raja guilty, convicts him, and orders that he marry Mala within 24 hours. Raja's attempts to kill Mala are in vain, and both get married with great pomp and ceremony. After the marriage, Rai Bahadur goes overseas, and leaves his family, especially his elder daughter-in-law, Sharda, to deal with Mala, and ensure that she is belittled, beaten, and eventually driven out of their house. Will Mala be able to face up to the dominating Sharda and the rest of this family, in addition to Raja

WHUT????? Nice punishment for him but WTF! Why does she have to marry him?

The only time I could tolerate a rapist as a hero in a BW movie was International Khiladi with Akshay and Twinkle and that was because I knew going in he didn't rape her and she fabricated it and took it to court to avenge the death of her brother who she thought he killed.

UGH.

Um, I thought there were riots over *kissing* scenes in Bollywood films?

Otherwise, the only good thing I can say about these photos is that they're obviously *not* retouched.

Yes, the stars of D2 got slapped with an obsenity suit for a closed-mouth kiss.

But oddly, the B-Grade films operate under rules of their own and, as long as they have the 'adult' certificate, get left alone because nobody famous is involved in making/writing/starring in them so the fuss won't make any political or celebrity point.

I don't think there's ever really riots as much as there's one attention-starved political/religious/whatever fanatic who decides the best way to hear his message is to rag on some popular movie for having something some people *might* object to. Another favourite of mine and [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie, Fanaa, was not shown in one state because the star of the film had DARED speak about some recent political cock-up that left people homeless. Politics in India are so messed up and how they relate to Indian movies is not usually reflecting the general public's opinion at all.

So very disturbing and really sad as that's the message reaching the masses.

Bwhahahhahahahahahahha!

Why do I wonder if the two get married in the end? Or even better, she dies during her quest for revenge and he gets married to the good and virginal girl!

Those are some of the least sexy photos I have ever seen, even without knowing the horrifying plot details. *shudder*

Ick ick eeeeek is all I can say about that. :D

I read somewhere that some people in India haven't quite caught up that rape =/= sex. I was once youtube searching some kiss scenes in a regional film and ended up seeing clips titled like "[name of actress] hot rape scene". Eurgh WTF!

I am rather intrigued by the hierarchy A vs B-list films. The B-list seems to be so much more B than anything I know from 'the West' -- it's more D and F.

Yup...those B-grades wouldn't be shwon in the States outside of late at night on cable channels :)
