Am done with East of Eden...
Dec. 7th, 2008 10:39 amI am done with East of Eden. I lasted 26 or so eps (which is longer than the entire run of an average Korean drama!) but honestly...I simply do not have the attention span for a series which is 50 eps at a minimum and most likely will be extended to 70 or so. And each ep is an 1+ long. I can't. I might selectively watch it when it's done...maybe.
And of course, I am losing interest because there are too many characters and too many stories and I am only interested in a few of them so when the rest are dealt with I get bored. Also, the pace is bizarre: sometimes it's pretty slow and then sometimes there is a crazy time jump. But seriously, they need a tighter pace and less characters: the story is going in circles. There is also more and more of Hye-Rin and while I think Lee Da Hae is an excellent actress (my favorite Korean one actually) the character makes me incredibly bored.
The thing I will miss the most? The crazy crazy soompi thread for EoE. It's a very popular drama so it's basically 400+ pages of insanity.
As a sample, I leave you with this MV made by a soompier which is basically a collection of scenes between two of the main characters, Myung Hun and Ji Heon, centering around when the former rapes the latter. It closes with...a dedication to all MH/JH shippers! In all the craziness of EoE thread, the one thing I have never been able to come to terms with is that people ship a rape victim with her rapist. In fact, they think she isn't good enough for him, lately.
ETA: I confess. I am pretty shallow and shippery myself. The main reason I watched for so long was this:
But now they are done and since for the last 7-8 eps they were almost the sole thing that kept me inerested in the drama, I am basically done too. Song Seung Heon is incredibly hot, true (probably the hottest Korean guy I've seen) but I can't watch that many eps just because of hotness.
Scene where my ship is finally done:
(I'll be shocked if the way the writers end ships on this drama, any single one makes out intact :))

Date: 2008-12-07 06:15 pm (UTC)I've no intention of watching the supposed wonder of DC/HR or worse a chemistry-less convoluted DC/HR/DW triangle. I'm down to wondering if YR can find a way to live her life beyond the men dominating it and if the birth secret will ever be revealed. The revenge angle is so played out it's not even funny.
Roll on K-HanaDan I say.

Honestly, LDH has chemistry with neither of the male actors which really sinks it. I don't mind watching a convoluted or even badly-written otp if the chemistry is there, but if there is no chemistry, the writing better be darn good and it isn't.
