Waaaah, Waaaah, Waqt

dangermousieWatched Waqt yesterday.
It exemplifies the best and worst of Bollywood, even though it is not even the best BW movie of the year (so far, this honor goes to the elegant and passionate Parineeta).
The plot is ridiculous and over-melodramatic. The movie made me laugh in all the wrong places (really, they tie raw meat to Akshay and make starving wild dogs chase him as a stunt? O-kaaaay), and Akshay Kumar can't cry to save his life but is required to do so at distressingly regular intervals. However, there is plenty of angst in the second half to compensate for the goofiness of the first (oooh, Daddy kicked us out and my pregnant wife is starving, ooooh, I am on fire, ooooh, Daddy is dying), the fantasy songs are beautiful (the one where Priyanka can't put on the dress Akshay bought her because the henna on her hands is still wet, so he puts it on for her, blindfolded so as to protect her virtue? Hot), I have a girl-crush on Priyanka Chopra, Akshay is all manly and not bad looking either, and I did find myself sniffling at the end, ridiculous or not. So overall, worth the $4.

I agree about the silly over the top drama (my favourite though was Akshay's serious!concentrated!dramatic! expression when he does the dancing audition. In what looks like a black skirt and a see through shirt. :D).

The dancing audition made me laugh and laugh and laugh. Ballet-type moves and see-through gauzy clothes just do NOT work on Akshay, who is one of the most masculine-vibe BW stars out there.
