Badfic, glorious badfic!
Jul. 29th, 2005 04:13 pmBringing you some more "interesting" summaries from Ff.net. Once again, for all I know the stories are great, however these summaries certainly caught my eye.
In today's installment we learn that Aliens are just Buffy-wannabes at heart (Roswell), that Mal has been creating children in between hanging in gay bars (Firefly), and that Farscape authors are desperate for feedback. And of course we learn that no matter where you go, even if it is deep space, you cannot escape the Mary Sues.
Farscape
Madeline takes over her brother's project and has the same effect. I have no idea if it's good or not, so I really need feedback on if it's good! Click that link, I know you wanna...
And this is connected to Farscape how? Plus, I really donna.
Crais is reviewing his situation. Based on the music of the song 'I'm Reviewing' of the musical Oliver. Completely different from the story 'I Am Reviewing'. This is written completely in lyrics-fashion and can be sung to the the music of the song (trust
What is it with FF.net and their desire to set everything to the sountrack of "Oliver?" Is it some kind of rule I am not aware of?
He stood, carefully straightening his uniform jacket, making sure there were no signs of his fear, his anger, or anything. Sealed inside, it festered, creating a great, knawing dark pit in what was left of his soul. Contaminating it beyond redemption, and
Also, no sign of promise in this summary, which is clearly beyond redemption (and word limit). Also, "knawing?"
A different version of John meeting Aeryn. ::i suck at summaries, sigh:: please r&r!::puppy dog eyes::
Nothing is guaranteed to make me hit the back button faster than "please review" comments.
Firefly
crumpeteer's recent foray inspired me.
We don't know much about the Reavers other then they eat people. This is a closer look at their 'society' then we've seen so far. Note that no songs are actually involved.
I am sorry, but I just love this one.
Inara's pregnant, but who's the father? And how will Mal react when he finds out? Please r&r!
I think he will react by screaming, realizing he has been pitched headfirst into baby!fic.
Kaylee tries to teach Simon about the engine. (Try being the operative word). Mild fluff.
Not a bad summary, but my mind went straight to the gutter :D
Niska returns, but this time he wants one of Serenity's crew to join him indefinitely. Forgot to mention, INT is interior and EXT is exterior. Please RR.
You mean previously, he was only going to torture them to death temporarily?
1st chapter. Something terrible happens to Simon. Or, depending on some other perspectives, something wonderful happens to Simon.
A Mary Sue attacks? :D
Killyia, a young rogue, tries to steal the ship Serenity but fails misrably when Jayne catches her off guard, slowly after hearing Killiya's story the crew of Serenity accept her as on of their own. --Writen in First Person through Killiya's eyes--
A Mary Sue! I hope she goes for Jayne. He is the closest to deserving it.
The crew meet three women who insist on fanfic awards in the Firefly Universe
They breed!
Guy bonding in a gay bar. MalSimon slash, among other things. Much sillyness.
*Bangs head against the wall. Slowly decides it would be better to do this to the author.*
River and Jayne centered AU, River went to a ballet academy instead of The Academy. Updated to fix some mistakes.
Oh. My. God. Did Simon have to rescue her because they were making her do too many arabesques?
Gen. Morgan Mitchell was the greatest asset the Brown Coats ever had. Now her son is in the hands of the Alliance, and she's got a surprise for one Capt. Malcolm Renyolds
Let me guess. Mal's the daddy and he will settle happily ever after with Ms. Mary Sue. However, it's good to know that Malcolm Reynolds isn't involved.
Sort of a continuation (at least continuity) of "My Clothes!" but Jayne-centered... Simon discovers a poemballad that reminds him of his favorite mercenary.
What's a "poemballad?" Sounds like some kind of fancy soup. And I guess Jayne is his favorite mercenary. He's the only one he knows.
Inara's leaving. Really, she is. [SG1 crossover; InaraDaniel]
Kill me now.
Mal’s bounty-hunter sister turns up looking for Simon and River, forcing him to deal with the life he left behind on Shadow, and a promise he was forced to brake…
How do you "brake" a promise? And what happens if you accelerate instead?
Roswell
X-Over with BTVS Angel. After EOTW Liz finds out that she’s pregnant, she leaves Roswell to go live with her cousin Fred in LA. There she meets some of the hottest guys she’s ever seen but they also have a secret. LizSpike.
But then Spike gets hungry one day, and Liz becomes a tasty snack.
A Buffy Roswell crossover. The Roswelians hide in Sunnydale while the FBI are looking for them, set after Destiny pt2. There they face horrors unimaginable....please review! (modified)
Yes, the fact that they are in a cross-over.
Buffy, Faith and Maria know their not enough, so when Tess and Dawn learn how to read the shadow book, all hell breaks lose as the three girls are thrown through a portal and the gangs stuck with out their slayers...or are they! UPDATE 7,24,05 oh New cast
But all their strength will not save them from the hell of badfic
What if Liz couldn't handle it after Destiny? What if she decided to move in with her cousin, Buffy? What if she finds out that she is a vampire slayer? What will happen with Max and Liz? Read and find out.
Anyone noticing a trend? Let me guess, Max either becomes brooding and cursed, soldierly and bland, or snarky and dark?
Can a person be born evil, or is it a taught skill? Tess throwback.
After perusing FF.net, I'd say a more relevant question is "Can a person be taught to write or is in an inborn skill and you should just give up?"
AU: ML What if you fell in love at first sight, only to find out later that person was your family's sworn enemy?
You read Romeo & Juliet and decide it's not worth the trouble.
A new girl appears and the team is curious. Michael and Max somehow saw her somwhere but they don't remember. They investigate to find out that this girl may in fact be... one of them.
She comes from the planet of Mary Suenia.

I can never get over the spelling in these things. It's like they don't even slow down to check the big words.
And what's with the "Oliver"? Seriously?

Date: 2005-07-29 08:37 pm (UTC)And did you notice the over abundance of River/Jayne fics? Where you as scared as I was? Is it just because those are the last two left without a pairing? Just because it causes evens things out doesn't make it right.

Date: 2005-07-29 08:49 pm (UTC)At least it's not Book/River. That's just all kinds of wrong. And Jayne is about the last person you should be pairing with River. Frankly you shouldn't be pairing anyone with River. What part of "girl is crazy" don't they get.

Date: 2005-07-29 09:07 pm (UTC)Umm, Jayne and "pairing" unless it's of the "weekend fun" variety just doesn't work.
And as to River? Hello, not prime relationship material (I also saw a Mal/River fic or two, and that just boggles the mind even more).

I did see a SW/Pirates of the caribbean once, but I stayed far far away from that one.
