Hard-boiled, with a side of smoochies
Oct. 16th, 2008 04:29 pmI've liked what I've seen of Tazza a lot so far (first two episodes) but have been a little too swamped with Kingdom of the Winds and East of Eden to catch up with the subbed eps 3 and 4 and to keep up with the drama as zealously as I would like but I have just got a major incentive to do so:
Incentive 1:

Incentive 2:

It's funny, all three dramas I am interested in this season, even if they are very different in basic stories and time-periods, involve protagonists giving into darkness for revenge and/or sheer survival, strong 'tarnished' (as opposed to conventionally pure or happy-cooky) women as heroines, and the twistedness and all-powerfulness of family bonds of brotherhood/parenthood, biological or assumed, and twisted out of their natural channels by the harshness of the world.
In other news, I never started When It's At Night (with Lee Dong Gun and Kim Sunah which aired earlier in the year) despite the deliciousness of it's premise, because it was picked up by BON Fansubs and they are notoriously slow (I was right. The drama finished months before and only 3 eps are subbed or look like they will ever be subbed) but seeing GIFs like the below makes me wish someone else would pick up the damn drama for subbing! I mean, it's LDG and KSA! They are both really popular! Argh.

Yes. They are secret agents who solve art crime. With their tongues, apparently.

Date: 2008-10-16 08:38 pm (UTC)WTF, this hasn't been fully subbed? It must suck hardcore or something, because you'd think everybody would want to see two such popular actors .. in a drama with spies and making out. C'mon!
I went to check out what JavaBeans thinks and okay, it sounds like a pretty predictable ordeal: http://www.dramabeans.com/tag/when-night-comes/
But crappier dramas have gotten subs faster so yeah, weird.

Date: 2008-10-16 08:42 pm (UTC)I doubt it was the best drama ever, but it sounds like it would be breezy, bubble-gum fun. I know

Date: 2008-10-16 08:49 pm (UTC)I tend to like reading Javabeans, mostly because of how she writes, not necessarily how she feels about dramas. For example she dismissed Capital Scandal based on slapsticky comedy which I find ludicrous as the drama has so many layers beyond the occasional over-the-top comedy scene. It's weird how I keep returning to her blog, though. It's a good news source on occasion, though.

I think (from reading her blog) the dramas that most appeal to here are modern romantic comedies, not too OTT in humor or with too much emo, about working-world female protagonists. And while I don't mind those, with very very few exceptions (My Girl), this is not my favorite genre in kdramas.
I didn't like SamSoon's character, nothing to do with the poor actress, so I don't mind giving her a chance :)

Date: 2008-10-16 10:12 pm (UTC)Mmmm...Jang Hyuk. He is one of the sexiest Korean actors out there!
OMG how do I NOT have Jang Hyuk icons?
Date: 2008-10-16 11:21 pm (UTC)Sometimes I wonder whether it'd be as fun to watch these dramas if I had unlimited access to everything, subbed and ready. I suspect it wouldn't be as fulfilling without the Engrish subs every now and then and the angsting over "NEW EP, NO SUBS, HALP, WHAT DO I DO?!"-parts. XD
He's my weirdest kdrama crush. And possibly my favourite. I hunted down his entire filmography; Public Toilet, Jungle Juice and all. He has become some kind of Salman to me, where I can take a little bit of overacting because I feel like I can connect with his inner geeky self... Yeah, weird. And I don't think I can thank his pilates instructor wife and the Korean Army enough.
Have a nice flight!

OMG, that is like the oddest yet most fitting comparison! (Speaking of Salman, I wonder if Hello is supposed to be any good).

LOL. He really is one of the most cut kdrama actors out there. Mmmm, Korean Army.
I think I also like him because in all the three dramas I've seen him in so far (Thank You, Robbers and Tazza) he plays these sort of bastards, not idealized dream men, but bastards I totally love.

Date: 2008-10-16 10:35 pm (UTC)When It's At Night.... I watched the first two episodes. It's not amazingly great, but still I like it. LDG and KSA are great together. Then again I may be biased as I love LDG. I haven't watched episode 3 yet because let's face it... it's going to be ages and I would rather not torture myself. Better to wait until it's done and then watch.
Last drama they subbed I really wanted to watch was How To Meet A Perfect Neighbor with Bae Doo-na and it's almost done. Been a little over a year from air date. When they finish I'll have to start all over again, I watched the first seven, but it's hazy now. lol
