An Italian showgirl and bikini model is selling her virginity — for $1.8 million.

Raffella Fico, 20, told an Italian magazine she was offering herself up for one million euros to help pay for acting classes and insisted she had never had sex before.

"I can't wait to see who's going to pull out the money to have me," Fico said to magazine Chi.

The Naples-born model, who achieved fame this year on the Italian version of Big Brother, said she would make good on her promise even if the buyer turned out to be unattractive.

"If I don't like him I'll just have a glass of wine and forget about it," she said.

Fico's family backed her claim she was still a virgin, citing her "devout" Catholic faith and discipline with prayer every night.

"She's never had a boyfriend — I swear on my mother's grave," her brother said.

“She's a devout Catholic and prays to Padre Pio every night."

Fico is the second woman in a week to announce she will sell off her virginity, after 18-year-old US student Natalie Dylan said she would accept a bid of US$1 million ($1.25m) to help pay for her college fees.

A Peruvian model also offered her virginity in 2005 to pay family medical fees but later got cold feet and turned down US$1.5 million.

Not basically, that IS what she's doing.

But why is it stupid? She needs the money and she can get it this way. If people will buy, and she is willing to sell, why not? Plenty of immigrants who do manual work in this country have to do way more debasing and dehumanizing stuff than this to earn a living.

I think it's stupid because (leaving aside the fact that I don't approve of prostitution): The stupidity isn't the selling even but the whole 'Oh, I am such a good Catholic girl' in the context of whoring herself out. Also, she doesn't need that much for acting classes. No acting class costs this much.

i stand corrected that she is whoring herself.... and i understand that there are immigrants who are debased and dehumanized but think they are doing that to have a better life for themselves and .... the girl is wanting acting lessons and a mansion..... yeah those are great things to compare... that woman can get a job like everyone else but she would rather sell her dignity and something she can never get back..... but then again what is virginity? better to lose it in a business transaction than with someone you care about but then again who am i to say anything....

Why are girls doing this? It's so horrific to me. This is the second story of this nature in the last couple of weeks that I've heard about (the other girl was here in the US and selling herself at the Bunny Ranch. No lie). It makes me feel slightly sickened and also incredibly sad for society. We're really this pathetic?

I am 22 now, and have never had a boyfriend. I was never asked to a dance in school, I've never been kissed (except once by someone unwelcome, so it doesn't count), and, honestly, I'm proud to be a virgin. I'm not going to give myself away to some jerk who doesn't really care about me, and I'm certainly not going to sell myself (because, essentially, this is prostitution). I don't understand basing you self-image on whether or not you've had sex. It boggles me. /rant
