And now, about shipping :)

People at soompi are quite heated discussing potential ships of East of Eden. Well, I have no clue who will end up with whom or anything, but here are my thoughts and caps 7 eps in.
1. We have the stalkery/obsessive/sick yet still fascinating relationship between MH (the bad guy's 'son') and JH, the stationmaster's granddaughter, who MH liked since they were children, but she has never paid attention to him and only had eyes for Dong Wook. I find this relationship (if you can call it that) fascinating because clearly MH is desperately in love with JH. But because he has been brought up in a sociopathic household, he cannot express this feeling in any but a posessive, offputting manner (even if JH was neutral on him, this sort of behavior would turn her off) and he has no grace to admit defeat or give up possessiveness. There is no doubt he truly loves JH but there is no way I want them together(I want him stabbed in the face, actually). Still, it's fascinating to watch.
Here she is on the phone, thinking it's Dong Wook:

Here he is, to drag her with him, when she is attending a party for DW.

2. My favorite ship so far, and the only one I really ship: a bit of playfulness in the sea of angst that is EoE: Dong Chul and Grace, the fun, extremely unshy and quirky daughter of the rich Congressman/mob don. It has everything I like: the actors have chemistry, the girl is pushy (but not offensively so) and open and the guy angsty and a bit stand-offish (but clearly attracted). He is dirt-poor, she is super-rich, there is threatened kidnapping and his getting shot to protect her. Basically, there is nothing I don't love about this.
Here she is, checking him out after he saved her quasi-boyfriend (I posted an earlier scene where she was checking him out, it was LOLtastic).

Now, that is the face of a lady who wants to go slumming most desperately. She probably is dying for him to take her off to his hovel :P

Her quasi-bf wants DC to take Grace on her errands.

Her idea of flirtiness is to be super pushy. But cutely so.

"Want a bite of my sandwich?" "That's not what I want a bite of." That's what they should be saying.

This was LOLtastic and adorable. (Yes, she invited herself over to his house).

Especially when she stole his food...

He is so amused.

And then he takes her home:

*squissssssh*

smoooch:

Heee. She is back!

From previews:

3. Dong Wook and JH. They are both nice people but honestly, I know they are supposed to have loved each other since childhood but I just don't feel invested or even very interested in this ship. They are nice though.

4.Potential ship: Lee Da Hae and DW. No opinion as we just met her.

Nonshippey shots from the ep to prove I am not just about the ships :P :

And a hug for the road:

Date: 2008-09-29 04:56 am (UTC)I admit the most fascinating relationship is the one with crazed rich guy and stationmaster's graddaughter. It's like 'you are hot and not a moron. If you bought her flowers and courted her, she might like you. Stop acting like a crazy person.' But of course, his father is yet another one of those awesom Korean parents. He thinks his kid is a bit too fixated on the nobody girl (though he is the one who told him to go and drag her away from the party) so he decides to solve it with a little forced relieving the kid of his virginity by paying some woman to take him off to her room and get him really drunk and have sex and when his son freaks out the next morning, Dad calls and is all 'hey, it's time for you to be a man.'
Love kdrama families.

No, actually, I think that's a perfectly legitimate reason.
"A is pretty and B is pretty and sometimes their character types hook up, so they are clearly OTP for eternity!"

Date: 2008-09-29 01:23 pm (UTC)I mean, why! They haven't even met, we don't even know if they are supposed to hook up (right now she is busily falling for his brother) etc etc. Why do they ship them? For all the know they won't have chemistry or their characters wob't work together or (most boggling reason of the bunch), there is no indication LDH's character is supposed to be the OTP with SSH. Argh. Whyyyyyy?

Date: 2008-09-29 03:39 pm (UTC)Short version: fandom shipping is weird and insane.
*Which is not to say there aren't perfectly sane, rational Zuko/Katara shippers. You just don't see them as much.

Date: 2008-09-29 05:27 am (UTC)Kdrama dads are pretty special; this one might be a fine addition to the hall of parental shame. Though he's still in the minor leagues yet.

Date: 2008-09-29 01:35 pm (UTC)Edit: I'm really curious as to what part LDH plays in this.
I was in the library today, browsing various non-Finnish literature, trying to find something to read and came across "East of Eden" the Steinbeck novel. I was like "OMG KDRAMA BOOK!" but then paused and was like "er, maybe not". I'm such a dork.

Date: 2008-09-29 03:38 pm (UTC)I think they've zeroed in on some (i.e. it's pretty clear MH will be obsessed with JH until the day he dies) and for some they've established potential triangles, but as with the main character, it's completely open so far. Crazy.

Date: 2008-09-30 07:46 pm (UTC)Then I briefly thought it was a take of Harry Harrison's West of Eden series which has dinosaurs battling humans and sometimes kidnapping them and having sex. Yeah.
But in my poopy-mood today, I have to say, going back through

Date: 2008-09-29 09:23 pm (UTC)The first few eps might come across as slow (not sure) but I liked them.
I am totally fascinated by the crazy stalker love guy. I mean, in RL I'd run away very fast and very far, but in dramaland I am sort of fascinated by how fixated he is on the girl. It's like his life has no meaning outside of her but he cannot express it in a positive or healthy way at all (and oh, the irony! If the nurse didn't switch the babies, he totally would have had the girl's love. Plus, he would have grown up in a normal, non-evil family).
