Still on East of Eden...

I like what East of Eden has to say about heredity. Because that's the thing. We have Dong Chul, our protagonist, son of the Union Leader and his tough wife, both basically good people, who was brought up by good people. And we have his little brother, Dong Wook, who was obviously brought up the same way but is (unbeknownst to anyone except that vengeful nurse) the biological offspring of that horrible, ruthless mine-owner and his wife, not the union leader and Mrs. Union Leader.
And it's interesting, because both brothers are basically good people (see upbringing) but Dw has this 'edge' that DC lacks - the ruthlessness. DW tries to set fire to mine owner's house at 10. And it's understandable: the man killed Union Leader, hunted the family, tried to kill his Mom. But still...arson. Huge deal. And it's just as clear Dong Chul, however provoked, would not do that. Heck, in the very beginning, before we go into flashback-land, Dong Chul can't even bring himself to kill mine owner, the worst of the worst, because the man is defenseless. So I find this mix pretty interesting.
Some very pretty caps. One of the things I like a lot in this drama (like in KOW) is the relationship between the brothers.
Father and son:

Mine owner. Diiiiie!

Young DC:

Yum:

DC sees baby brother:

That was an amazing scene.

DW and DC, more grown-up.

Mom:

They have a sucky life. It's almost like a Russian novel :)

Oooooh!

DC takes the blame for DW's arson on himself (after being unsuccessful at trying to stop it).

He tries to escape and say bye to his baby brother...

Station Master and his granddaughter, who is sweet on DW.

Priest tries to comfort him but DC is on his way to becoming an atheist. And by 'on his way', I mean 'already there.'

The cops caught up with him:

Preview. Hello there, Hottie! Mmm. Grown-up DC.
