This is Dan. He is like an uglier, younger, less talented Elijah Wood. I think we are supposed to root for this young man and his crush on Serena but I want him to be eaten by a snake.

This is Nate. He is very very handsome and very very dim. Both these qualities leave him singularly equipped to become a gigolo for a rich older woman, which is what apparently happens to him in S2.

This is Chuck. He looks like a gargoyle, smokes up, and loves to dispense bon mots. Clearly he thinks he is in Igby Goes Down. I foresee a future for him discovering true love with a hunky poolboy named Diego, sometime after his fourth divorce.

This is Blair. She is auditioning for Paris Hilton, minus the blonde hair and the porn tape (though seeing the way she was jumping Nate in the middle of the party, there might be the latter in her future). If there is anyone on this show who screams 'future plastic surgery fangirl' it is her. Also, she clearly buys her clothes at Harajuku.

This is Serena. She is blond and therefore virtuous. I think she deserves to be stuck with Dan because they are equally dull. Or Nate...she can pet him and take him for walks and maybe get him a doggie bowl.

This is Jenny, Dan's younger sister. She is the only someone normal here and I think should get off this show stat.

Oh, look, a TV parent! Which means he will be utterly ineffective.

Nate practices for his future profession:

And Chuck tries a little date rape. Nothing like those oldfashioned boys, is there?
I think there was only so much vapidity I could take and I turned the ep halfway in. Let's see if I am brave enough to continue :)
I hate all of them, half the first ep in. If I absolutely must watch high school students, I much prefer this:

Date: 2008-09-21 06:12 pm (UTC)I like some some of the actors, I like the girl that plays Serena and I have always loved Kelly Rutherford and as well as Margaret Colin, who appears in some of the episodes.
I don't tend to enjoy series associated with Josh Schwartz. I watched The OC for Melinda Clarke and because my Grandma was a fan. It was fun watching it with her. I ended up enjoying Autumn Reeser in the final two seasons of it, and a few of the other actors, but that was about it!

Date: 2008-09-21 10:58 pm (UTC)Seriously, attempted date rape twice in one ep? What a charmer.
I tried the OC and the few eps made me long for a bloody workers revolution to rampage through the cast.

Parenting, schmarenting. He has a gallery and a rock band; he lives in a NY loft. And did you see his hair? You obviously don't appreciate how hard he has worked to achieve this level of hipness. ;)

Date: 2008-09-21 10:42 pm (UTC)Blair and Chuck go from being annoying little twits to being the most awesome characters (very very flawed but still very awesome nonetheless) on the show.
And you'll probably hate Jenny if you make it to the end of the season. And Rufus is actually pretty awesome (at least imo). But Nate is very stupid though.

Date: 2008-09-22 01:43 am (UTC)I actually quite like GG. It's rather vapid and shallow but hey eye candy, and it's entertaining. And yes, as others have said, Chuck is multilayered. I hated him too at the beginning but he's actually quite compelling.
Gargoyle, hee.
