I have just added the first season of Gossip Girl to the top of my netflix queue.

Blame [livejournal.com profile] hope_fuleigh. She likes it and we seem to look for the same things in ships so there I am...

Let's see how entertainingly trashy it gets!

Also, do I need to have seen the Terminator movies in order to enjoy Sarah Connor Chronicles? Because I want to check them out but I've never even seen a sec of the movie.

I don't think you *have* to have seen the movies to enjoy SSC, as they do give a brief backstory at the beginning of each episode. But it might be harder to get into if you don't have a sense of that 'verse. The first film would be the most important. The second is also enjoyable, but I wouldn't waste time on the 3rd.

I don't really want to watch the movies...I am not big on 8-s action flicks especially if they star Arnold, so I'll see if I can get a sense of the universe without.

I've never see Terminator or T2, and love The Sarah Conner Chronicles. The show takes place a couple of years after T2 and everything you need to know is explained within the first ten or fifteen minutes of the pilot. And, if anything from the films is brought up (characters, events), they explain it. It is a good show, I'd rec it.

Yay, I will definitely netflix it then.

I don't think it's necessary to see the Terminator movies (most people on my flist agree that T2 is worth it for Sarah, who is a hot badass with great arms). There are nods to the movies in the TV series, but the episodes do give you the backstory you need.

I didn't bother watching T3, because it was sadly lacking in Sarah.

That sounds good, I'll check it out then.

word: no.

I've only seen a few minutes of one of them and wasn't lost at all. It explains everything perfectly clearly. They're really only tangentially related in my opinion anyway. emphasis on the Sarah Connor Chronicles, not the Terminator part

As much as I hate myself for wanting to watch Gossip Girl, I am going to watch it because I heard the Chuck/Blair OTP is so awesomely dysfunctional I have to see it with my own eyes.

You definitely don't need to have seen the films to enjoy T:SCC. Like others have said, it spells things out pretty clearly for new viewers.

However, at some point you'll probably want to visit them - if only to gain a better appreciation of how the Kyle/Sarah OTP kind of hinges all the drama in the Terminator 'verse. It's quite poignant, really. Also, T2 is simply one of the best action films of all time with one of the best action heroines of all time. :)

I am sort of allergic to Ah-nold though, so I think I might skip the movies until the Christian Bale remake :) But I do want to check out the show.

Haha, my flatmate watches Gossip Girl and is trying to get me to watch it!

As for the SCC, you can watch it without watching the Terminator movies, but I recommend watching the first two before hand, cause some of the stuff makes a lot more sense if you know the whole story! I would definitely watch the first one, simply cause I loved the Reece/Sarah moments and I love how that impacts on her in SCC

If you want a backgrounder, the first movie is enough. I think you can survive not seeing the movie. But Terminator is a classic so eventually I hope you see it.
