I've realized I am not watching a single American (or British) TV show this season.

Which is odd.

So...convert me.

Recommend a show you think I might like :)

(Procedurals are out and so are lawyer shows, but other than that...wide open!)

... I know you said you loathed the very idea of Gossip Girl. And I was with you! Up until I caught last night's episode and there are English lords throwing hissy fits and virile high school boys sleeping with married older women for money so they can uphold their regular lifestyle and yogurt-slinging and people being catty catty catty all over the place. I still don't... like-like it, nor do I respect it -- something like the television equivalent of that guy you pick up just because he is so much prettier than he is smart and dammit, you have needs.

I have needs. Trashy, trashy needs.

It helps that my DVR now allows me to fast-forward through the people I'm supposed to actually, y'know, emotionally connect with. (Aka the commoners. Dan and Vanessa, I hope you both die in a fire.)

But in terms of good shows? Um.

Yeah, I got nothing.

It's funny, I can deal (and revel) in trashy manga or dramas, but books or tv shows put me off. With books it's because I have to read the painful prose and with tv shows it's because they have no ending point :)

"True Blood"

There is high romance, angst, and vampires, but it's not a Buffy reinvention.

Puuuuushing Daisies, when it comes on.

Mad Men, although it's half through.

Isn't MM supposed to be all dark and bitter and with nasty characters?

I know you have a certain type of show you like. I also know that you occasionally make exceptions if the show is really good. So my suggestion:

Mad Men.

Because it is really, really good.

And though it's not my type of show, I would be curious to hear your opinion on True Blood. (though you might find it to be a bit too wannabee, like Rome and Tudors)

I'll check out TB but the sex...blah. It always strikes me as trying too hard. I can rent porn, thank you, if I want that sort of thing.

The Office? It's fun and witty and I didn't think I'd like it, but I did. Plus, you don't need to have really seen anything previous to it to enjoy, which is a huge bonus!

Have you watched Dexter? It's smart, horrible, funny, fascinating, and 5 or 6 episodes into each season you won't be able to stop watching 'til you've seen the finale.

Lost in Austen. It's a 4 episode british comedy. Quite weird but very entertaining and terribly amusing ^^. It's still airing : 2 on 4 episodes. The beginning was weird seeing how it's about a modern irl who is projected in Pride and Prejudice's world but once Amanda is in, the flows goes smoothly. Also, I found myself really wondering what was going to happen ^^.

Here's some review of the 2 first episodes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_in_Austen

And heres a trailer:

Watch How I Met Your Mother! It is seriously one of the funniest and most adorable shows on tv right now. And it's pretty underrated too, imo. The writing & characters are absolutely amazing (I guarantee you will fall in love with either Marshall or Barney or all of them. And you will absolutely adore Marshall & Lily who are possibly the cutest couple ever and they've been together for over ten years and aren't your typical annoying frigid married couple). It's told through flashbacks and set in New York. And it's based loosely on the creators' lives.
Also because HIMYM gave us this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtkYcOknQwo

I second the Pushing Daisies recommendation; it's lovely to look as well as having a sweet and impossible love story. Er, you already know about Gossip Girl, but I have a feeling once they wrap up the selling of Nate's virtue story line I might be bored.

I tried Mad Men, but though I think it's good I really didn't like it; too far outside my tastes to appeal to me no matter what, I think.

True Blood.

Vampires. Sex. Violence. And lots of it! How could that not be a winner? I totally think you'd like it. It's quirky, dark, funny, dramatic, angsty...on and on I could go.

I've been reading your blog a lot lately (never commented) but I felt like I had to, here, lol.

Have you ever seen Chuck? It's basically about this huge computer geek (but adorable, and he went to Stanford!) who gets a whole bunch of super-secret government info. downloaded into his brain, and he consequently becomes super important to the government. The CIA sends spies to protect him, and the main OTP in the show is between him and one of the spies protecting him. And there are repressed feelings (they have to pretend to be going out, but they can't have feelings for each other because it would compromise him) and lots of angst.(Even more awesome, because her ex-boyfriend? He was killed on mission by her current partner, and is Chuck's ex-best-friend who got him kicked out of college.)
